Downloading World of Warcraft AddOns

Searching

Downloading your favorite World of Warcraft AddOns from Curse is simple. If you know what you're looking for already, then all you need to do is visit the World of Warcraft AddOn section and use the search box, shown in the image below.

Simply type in the AddOn name you're looking for, and the powerful search system should do the rest of the work. Fear not - Curse search is powered by Google search technology, so if you misspell a commonly used search phrase, the search system will suggest another form of spelling.

We also have a very powerful filter system for the Curse search by clicking on the Advanced button. This will display the Advanced search page, as seen below.

Once you've selected all of your filters, you can type in the phrase you're searching for and click the search button. You can even choose to include authors as part of your result, allowing you to search for all of the AddOns created by a specific author here on Curse.

Finding AddOns Manually

If you're not sure what the name of the AddOn you're looking for is, or you just want to find something for the first time, then the left-menu navigation is going to be a boon for locating desired AddOns quickly.

As an example, let's say you're looking for new Unit Frames. Locate "Unit Frames" on the category menu and click it.

Once you click the link, you'll be taken to a results page displaying all World of Warcraft Unit Frame AddOns - initially sorted by most recently updated.

Click for larger image

The results page has several sorting options: Name, Hits/Today, Rating and Last Update, as well as a number of features that we can hopefully explain below, to better understand what is being presented.

  1. Quick Download - This graphic is called the "Quick Download" button. It takes you directly to the page that allows you to download the AddOn.
  2. AddOn Name - This is the AddOn name. Clicking on the name takes you to the AddOn's project page so you can read more about the AddOn. Additionally, mousing over the name will create a tooltip which displays a quick overview of the AddOn.
  3. Hits/Today - This number displays the number of downloads for the current day.
  4. Rating - This is the rating of the AddOn that Curse members just like you have given this AddOn. You too can rate the AddOn by visiting its project page. If you're not a Curse member, then you can register here.
  5. Last Update - This is the date the AddOn was last updated.

Downloading Your File

You have two options for downloading your AddOn once you've located one that interests you. You can choose the "Quick Download" option, explained above, or you may download the AddOn by visiting its project page. For this example, we'll use X-Perl UnitFrames - one of the more popular AddOns here on Curse.

There is quite a bit of information available on a project's page, but this is a guide to help you understand downloading on Curse, so we'll save the project page explanation for another time. The image below should help you to better know what to look for when downloading a new AddOn.

  1. "Download" Button - Clicking this button will take you to the download page, allowing you to select a mirror closest to your country of origin so that you may download the AddOn.
  2. "Add to Faves" Button - If you'd like to receive a notice on Curse each time this AddOn is updated, then simply click the "Add to Faves" button and the AddOn will be added to the favorites section of your My Curse Profile.
  3. Screenshot - This is the screenshot chosen by the AddOn author to show off the AddOn in-game. Clicking this will open a preview window, allowing you to get a glimpse of what the AddOn looks like before downloading it.
  4. Last Update - This is the date the AddOn was lasted updated by the author. It's a good idea to take a look at this date prior to downloading an AddOn. If you download extremely old AddOns, you run the risk of them not being compatible with your version of World of Warcraft.
  5. Game - The game field displays the game this AddOn is compatible with. In our example's case, it's World of Warcraft.
  6. Category - This is the category display for the AddOn you're viewing.
  7. Current Version - This lists the most recent version of the AddOn available for download. You'll also notice, as in the image example, a "for World of Warcraft 2.1.3." This means that the author has designed this AddOn's version to work with the game version listed.
  8. More - If this link is available, clicking on it will take you to additional downloads for the AddOn. It's important to note that some of these additional downloads will be older versions of the AddOn, so it's highly advised you use the "Download" button over this option.
  9. Compatible - These are the languages this AddOn is compatible with, represented by a flag display.
  10. Localized - These are the game clients this AddOn has been localized for, represented by a flag display.
  11. Rating - If you want to share your opinion on the AddOn, then rating it is the best way. You can do so by clicking on the rating display, giving it anywhere from 1 to 5 stars.

We hope this guide has helped you to better understand the download process here on Curse. If you'd like to learn more about installing your AddOns, then head over to our AddOn Install Guide.

I am able to use the Curse downloader on one machine but not my other machine. I get login failure on the other...using the same username and password. In fact I am logged into My Curse and I use the same username and pwd. when the login failure from the client fails.

Is it possible that I have a different username and pwd for the client then I do for My Curse? If so how come the username and pwd works on another computer and not this one?

96% of all WoW players use some kind of AddOn.
When you reach lvl 70, lots of guild's recure Omen Threath Meter and Deadly Boss Mods.
Some guilds also whant you to have GroupCalendar.

In order to update any addons first search for updated versions using the instructions as written by curse above. Next download the updated addon (save it some where you can easily see which version u have e.g a WoW Addons folder).

Once u have donwloaded the zipped folder (updated addon) open it and simply copy and paste the contents from there to your interphase folder default:

C:\Games\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns

You will be notified that any files with same names will be replaced and asked if u wish to continue...click yes to all and thats it addon updated XD

Just repeat the above steps for all your addons and they will all be up to date in no time at all.

To make it easier make sure u save the addons you are usuing in the My Faves part of your curse account that way u can track the updates for ur addons very easily.

And two last final tips: Report errors if u can, it helps the developers to make better versions in the future and check curse regularly (here that My Faves part comes in handy) for any updates to addons.

Hope this helps

Peace out : D

Dahllas-
Note that there have never been any sort of advertisements or subgames included with the Auctioneer family of addons from either the main auctioneeraddon.com site, nor other "known good" sources, such as Curse.
Best of luck tracking down the culprit! Perhaps see if something is bound to your right arrow key in the keybinder?
Nikk

edit: spelling

I installed Auctioneer using your Curse Auto Dowloader, which btw is Sweeet. But while playing, when I hit my right directional arrow, a little window comes up about a game called sages or somthing like that. How do you disable that>

Compatibility questions: Do addons work with Windows XP 64-bit? Placing them in WoW/Interface/Addons folder does not seem to work. Any suggestions?
