Omen - Why is there so many updates?
With patch 2.4 the combatlogging changed completely, because of that Omen had to change completely also. Because they had to re-write Omen completely anyway, they also started bringing in new features with those 4 modes (single target, healer etc etc).
At this moment it is fairly safe to let your guild download one version and then wait for a week or so, but once you get multiple different versions, you'll start to get problems because calculations will be slightly different and also communications might not be possible.
The different modes are just getting tuned, that's why there are so many updates all the time.
I personally run WAU (WoW Ace Updater) every day and I do a version check before the raid starts to see whether people have incompatible version. You'll have to choose this way, or choose to stick to 1 version for a week or so and then let everybody download a new version.
It's best to ask any of the ACE mod related questions right at the main ace site. Having guildies run the WAU is the best way to go. Even though I provide a raid pack for my own guild, they've all seen the issues with Omen since the patch and the apparent lack of communications among versions. The best thing to do is tell people to go to the wowace files daily or have them get the WAU.
I believe the reason its updated so much is the developer is very very active developing not only Omen but the Threat ace library that it works from. I'd assume this is to make it the best it can be, fewest bugs possible and smallest memory footprint it can have.
Also if it contains other ace libraries every time they are updated then Omen will update too.
Very untrue Wowza and definitely don't spread that idea around. Omen versions just 1-2 days apart are not reporting the threat correctly amongst the two of them. I've seen plenty of raids where I can see myself and 2 other people and then the other 7 can see themselves and not us. Until Omen settles in, please very MUCH worry about having the latest version.

GyliethMy raid has a hard time keeping up with all the updates of Omen. Can someone tell me WHY there are so many?
I can imagine *right* after a patch, there would be a lot, but even now, it seems to be updated every couple of hours.
What would be the benefits or losses of all of us having one version of Omen, and not updating until a new WoW patch comes out?
