Make My Addon!

To whom it may concern:

I have an idea for an Addon that I think everyone will want to use. I call it "ToolBox" (and a companion addon called "CoolBox"). It would allow you to select the names of Tools (idiots) you run into every day and allow you to be notified if they join your guild, party or raid at any point in the future. You would be able to put a note on their name such as "Can not tank" or "Spammer" so you could later remember why you thought they were a Tool. At your option, you could also /ignore them.

The trick is, I want to be able to track an unlimited number of Tools. I expect it would work a lot like Spam Guard Plus, keeping a list and then comparing the list with a /who of the server, periodically. Then adding all the /ignored people to the normal game's /ignore list.

CoolBox would work the same way, but would act more like an unlimited Friends List. Both lists would be shareable across all your characters and the notes would remember which of your characters added the Tool to the list.

I envision a way to cut/paste from the list into other programs so that your guild can keep a forum for Tools (my old guild had one called "DNG" for "Do Not Group"...or dungeon :)

So, are any of you coders willing to step up to the challenge? I bet people would PAY for this one.

Not to be a bubble burster..

1. People will not "pay" for an addon.. Donate, perhaps.. Pay? Definately not.

2. "Unlimited"..? That's a massive problem right there... Let's go with an assumption that there are 5000 players on the average server that are of the same distinction as you (ie: Alliance or Horde). Of those 5000, only about 1000 are hardcore raiders (thus basically having 1 character). That leaves 4000 others who will probably have 3 or more characters.. So right there, your list is a posible maximum 13,000 names (minus 1 for yourself). You want to load such a list into memory so it is accessible and then even compared with a /who? I'm not a coder for wow but if such a thing is possible, talk about game-stop lag everytime your addon would do a /who comparison.

There's a reason Blizzard has caps on the # of friends and # of ignored.. for simple coding purposes. (Maxes out at 255 I think). Now, in 2.4, you can add notes to all people in your friends list at least (I don't have anyone on ignore so I didn't check). Right there, Blizzard just eliminated your "coolbox" with a notes field on all "friends".
