Idea for an Addon

Forgive me for this being extremely non-technical as I have no idea what would need to be actually done for this to work.

I have an idea for an addon I'd like to see if it would even be possible, maybe there's already one out there that can do this that I don't know of.

I'm looking for a mod that could take a full database of all the quests in WoW, faction divided of course, and compare it somehow to what quests your character has already completed, and return a list of quests still available to be done. This would be extremely useful to lvl 70 characters grinding quests for gold. you could add filters like quest lvl, quest zone, faction rep, etc.

I have no idea how it would have to work mechanically, but perhaps use the share quest mechanic to get a return from your character of "Has Already Completed that quest".

Those are my basic ideas of it, take them and run with it! Keep me updated!

ooo i love the idea, but think it'll be hard to nearly impossible for this to happen however i vote this idea if anyone picks this up and starts a project i'd be great maybe you can scan the ! in the cities when you go in them and match the quest givers name with the quests he gives or something, but it would be a nice addon imo

I almost want to say this idea has been done. Not sure entirely, but do a search for Quest or Quester or something along those lines.

If I recall, this mod works as you play and also can collect data from you friends and guild mates in the way such as Gatherer.

There have been several incarnations of this kind of mod. The catch though is they have to see that either you cannot get the quest or witness you complete it to add it to a saved variable.

My name is a bit out of date but the last one I tried was called QuestList and it is very old if you can even find it would probably come up incompatible.

A mod will never be able to know what quests you have completed PRIOR to the installation of the mod. There's tons of quest history mods out there but none will ever be able to know what you have done prior to the mod activation.

No way to apply the share quest mechanic and base it on that or anything?

No because you can only share a quest you're currently on.

Yes but i was thinking in the reverse, the mod would try to share it w/ you. Wasn't sure if that could even be possible

It wouldn't be, because the mod doesn't have any quests that it's on. It might be able to record when someone else tries to share a quest with you, and learn that you've already done a quest that way -- but I'm not 100% sure that it can. It may be that the server replies with a "that person has already done that quest" without passing it on to the other player's client, in which case the mod wouldn't see it. Indeed, if WoW's developers were smart, they'd do it that way in order to save on unnecessary traffic.

If you want to gather ALL the Quest's inside the World of Warcraft you would need 10.000 gamers approx using this AddOn collection Quests from lvl 1-70 and doing it 10 times doing a new Char each time and doing BOTH factions .

If we Add this up we end with the quests in WoW and approx we'll miss over 100-200 quests anyway because they are hidden inside all kinda stuff .
Or maybe you just want WoWHead to download the hole Quest database into a Lua DB and from this creat an AddOn calling the Quests you've completet on the Char hiding these from the list .

My 10 Pence .

EDIT:
Of course the players gathering the data would need to merge theire database's together so the AddOn would be completede and the there should be an updater like the WoWHead updater includede to update the AddOn .
This require so much that it'll never be done.
