auctioneer

i am new to the whole addon thing, how do i get auctioneer to work? or... how do i use it?

After downloading the Auctioneer zip pack, unzip the contents. Open your WoW program folder (directory) and look for a folder named Interface. Open it up and create a new folder called Addons (unless it's already there). Toss the unzipped folders (Auctioneer, Stubby, etc.) into the Addons folder. When you start up WoW, click the Addons button on the lower left of the Character Selection pane, and check to be sure all of the add-ons you just added are checked. Exit that screen, select a character, and enter the game.

There are several sources of advice regarding using Auctioneer, with perhaps the best being the Auctioneeraddon.com forum. In general, type " /auctioneer on " to activate the add-on inside WoW. It is mostly useful at the Auction House though, and when "on" it will present a little "Scan" button on the AH dialogue box. Use this "scan" feature at least once a day for 2-3 weeks before relying on any prices Auctioneer reports, as it must build a database of items and prices seen on your server's AH.

After patiently scanning for weeks, start bidding using Auctioneer's data more comfortably, being somewhat secure in the knowledge that your price data are fairly accurate. Remember the old tip: buy low, and sell high.
