KaltesHey guys,
I think the Curse Client is a wonderful idea. There are many mods that are hosted here that I use that my other website doesn't create. It's nice that I can simply come to this website, click on download using the Curse Client, and it's installed. There are quite a few issues though that I can't quite get over. I'm curious if the following issues have been addressed and will be resolved next patch, or if no one even knows about them.
1) Why is it that when I go to manage my addon's by Curse, I can't selectively check for updates? I can understand that since the application is supposed to check for updates periodically while open you wouldn't need it, but for some reason I feel more comfortable being able to specify that I want an addon to update.
2) Presently I have the issue where when Curse scans my addons and determines that there is an update, it gives me a link saying click here to install. Unfortunately when I "click here" to install, nothing happens. It's good that it's notifying me that an addon was updated, however now I have to go to the website and update it myself.
3) Sometimes I have had an issue with an addon where the version on my computer was outdated. Curse was not picking up that the addon had been updated, however going to the website you could see it was updated a few days ago. I would go to install it via curse client, and it would appear that it would download the addon and install it... unfortunately the information for the addon was the same, the date it was updated, etc... and it wasn't updating itself. Everything would appear to run fine but apparently it didn't do anything, I still had the same out of date addon. I would have to install using another mirror, and extract the addon information manually.
4) Is there a way to disable the application from periodically checking for updates while you're in game? I'm sure that if you update an addon while you're in game, you're either going to have problems with the game, or the addon that's being used. Not to mention it's annoying since I play in windowed mode I have the two update screens popping up during gameplay. Yes, I shut down the client while playing, but I feel I shouldn't have to do that.
I believe that's it for now. Perhaps an area of the website should be opened up just for the Curse Client, troubleshooting, FAQ, bugs reported / submission, forum discussion, etc.
