Av. FPS of 15 - Normal?

Hi there

Just would like to know more about the ingame fps and the related influence that AddOns and other things may have.

It may sound naive, but is there a way to improve the picture/fps rate? I mean, I'm used to gaming with av. fps of 15-20, in BGs even less (down to 8 fps). This seems not to be normal to me.

Sure, I've tried to turn down picture/detail resolution etc. - but it didn't make a great difference. Do AddOns have such a huge influence on the games performance?

Sorry, I'm a woman and besides I'm anything else but a computer crack ^^. Anyway I would like to learn more about this topic, since the gaming comfort is rather low this way : (

My notebook is one of the newer generation (Intel Core2Duo - 1.8, 2GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 8400M GT etc.) But sometimes I think Vista could cause at least a part of the named problem.

However, I would really appreciate your oppinions, comments and suggestions. Thanks for it in advance : )

i have the same graphic card and i have 60-70fps i think you should throw your vista in the bin :)

Vista is part of your problem. It's a resource whore and makes you need twice the RAM as XP to run games and get equivalent performance. It also might have something to do with your internet connection. I would try a RAM upgrade 1st and see if that helps.

Thanks Wito and Malystra for your replies.

Well, Vista throw in the bin.. And then? ^^ I don't absolutely need Vista (I mean, who actually does?^^) But buy Windows XP, replace Vista etc. etc. is that really necessary? A RAM upgrade. Hm. Ok. I will think about that.

I just checked now the RAM performance (WoW is open, I stand with my char in IF), and I am writing here, that means a lot of additioanl resource. RAM performance is currently at 1.2 GB. (I'ts like I said, don't know to much about computers). Is that to much?

im not so sure but if you are using a 32-bit windows it uses max 2GB of ram uf you have 3GB it still will just use 2GB of it max
so an upgrade us useless
my performance with wow is 950MB but also if i would have your 1,2GB it never mind
vista takes a lot of performance also from your graphic card, procesor, etc.

Yes, I'm using a 32-bit windows.

It's all so annoying, since I'm also dealing with the cause of mysterious disconnects I have now and then (always in relation whit actions related to the inventory).

Funny enough is, that when I bouhgt the Notebook half a year ago, they told me it would be just perfect for my purposes. So why is the graphic card overstrained, when WoW is running and Vista is istalled?

Do you think a new/different/better graphic card could make a difference?

It uses 3.4gb max if you're lucky. My other computer with vista has 4GB and it reads as 3.2GB.

If you use Firefox and leave it open for long lengths of time it can have huge amounts of RAM usage. So don't run it along with WoW.

Nevermind the RAM comment.. Didn't see you were using a Laptop.

Well, by chance I realised that the size of the Atlas AddOn was over 30MB! So I just tried, if it wouldm make a difference, when I uninstall it. And behold, I have now a dramatically better FPS rate, between 30 and 60 fps - even in Shattrath an av. value of 25.

It's too bad about the nice dungeons maps. But thats ok, I still have Atlas Loot Enhanced.

WOW. I run Atlas with 2gb ram on 32bit vista and get about 40 in shat and 70+ everywhere else.

Really addons shouldn't cause that much latency, if any, ever. Try deleting the files in the WTF folder pertaining to Atlas and reinstall it, I've never heard of such bologna.

Also I have the newest version of Atlas and it sits at 20.6mb unzipped. Whatever you had could not have been the real Atlas. Might want to change your password.

Another thing you should do is make sure that your not running any unnessicary programs at the same time your running wow. Vista is not an issue if you treat it right i have used Vista since beta and run wow on it the whole time. Als you should beef up the ram on your laptop w/ vista and wow and your graphix card you really shoudl be running 3 to 4 gigs. it will cost less to upgrade the ram than to buy and install xp.

EDIT: as a side note, I am currently running over 150 mods and pretty much the same setup you have for a laptop except that i have 1G more ram. you can turn down the gfx settings in vista and it may give you a better over all performance. Also if you are running wireless you make sure there is a WEP password on it. Multiple users can affect your performance that way too.
