Description:

Lets you know when Wintergrasp is going to start regardless of being in Dalaran.

How to use:

Visit either Arcanist Braedin (Alliance) or Magister Surdiel (Horde) in Dalaran, they will tell you how long until the next battle. From this you can work out the time of the next battle.

Say it's currently 3:30pm server time and they say the battle starts in 1 hour and 15 minutes then the next battle will start at 4:45pm (16:45)

Next either go to your Options > Interface > Addons menu and select WinterTimer or type /wt settings into your chat box to open up the settings page.

Under the Time Settings section you can change the sliders to what you worked the time of the next battle out to be. Example: Hours would be 16 and Minutes would be 45

You've now successfully setup WinterTimer, there are other settings to mess around with too, but by default it will alert you every 30 minutes and give you warning messages as it gets closer to starting.

Features:

- Timer (Tells you how long to go at set intervals e.g. every 30 minutes)
- Warning (Alerts you 5 minutes before the match, then 3 minutes, then 1 minute and when the battle starts)
- Sound (Plays a sound whenever the timer is displayed)
- Send (Send the remaining time message to another player via tell)

Slash Commands:

/wt next - Displays the time remaining till the next battle
/wt send name - Sends the time remaining message to another player (name)
/wt settings - Shows the settings page

Note:
From what i've found out about how the Wintergrasp timer works, it appears that it doesn't follow a strict time (i.e. 3, 6, 9, etc) which is why i've had to include the ability for you to set the time that the battle last started or when the next one will start. You can easily work this out by visiting Dalaran and talking to Arcanist Braedin (Alliance) or Magister Surdiel (Horde).

Once you've set the time it'll be saved for that realm, you don't need to set it again on reload or with a new character.

I'm assuming the time goes out of whack whenever they restart the server so you may need to change it every now and then.

Obviously this is just a quick work around cause i'm sure Blizzard will add their own timer to the map or something in the not so distant future.

Feedback and Bug Reports are always welcome =) I hope you find it useful.

  • This addons doesn't work and I'll tell you why. If you set it up when battle begins it believes the next battle will start 3 hours later, which is all fine if each battle in winter grasp lasted 30 minutes but we all know they don't. So if the battle lasts 10 minutes the program still thinks 3 hours instead of 2 1/2 hours after battle in winter grasp is over is when next battle begins. This program doesn't take into account time it takes to win the battle, instead it sets a 30 minute windo for that and we all know it doesn't take 30 minutes to win each time in winter grasp. If you have to set the clock for each battle so why even have this program?

How can I stop it from telling the guild about my "achievements" I don't enjoy these achievements, and they make me want to punch babies and push over grandmas. When it announces that I have completed "take no prisoners" for winning? I want to throw a sack of puppies into a river.
Is there an option to remove those somewhere that I'm not seeing or at least a way to not announce it in guild?

  • no, it doesn't have a keylogger. it's a LUA script which runs after you have logged into WoW. there is absolutely no way it can steal your password.

your account was hacked because (1) you used a weak password and somebody brute forced it or (2) you have a rootkit or other hidden malware on your computer.

it is *completely impossible* for an LUA script to steal your WoW password. it cannot be done.

I think this DOES have a keylogger. I used this addon and 2 days later my account was hacked from somewhere in china and they sold all my items and stole the gold. Dont download!

Since Wintergrasp does not follow a strict time frame, due to battle lasting 15 mintutes or so, you will find your times inaccurate with this mod.

I have written one that you will find is much more accurate, WinterTime.

Wouldn't it make more sense to set the current to when the battle ended? Battles can end at random times depending on when WG is won. Why would I set the time to when it starts and then everything be thrown for the timer?

Because it wouldn't be a true 3 hours after the match when the next one will start. I'm going to be looking at getting it to automatically update through the ingame timer anyway so that feature would not be necessary.

  • /wt setmin & /wt sethour doesnt work. Everything I change it to under settings and it will not keep time right. I guess i can try another. Just like how simple this one seemed to be. Just cant sinc time up

setmin and sethour were removed in v1.0. As for time accuracy, i'm aware of this, during working out the bugs I had not had a chance to see how accurate it was. It is accurate but what isn't accurate is the way Wintegrasp works where it isn't a true 3 hours between each match.

I'm going to hopefully fix this issue by allowing WinterTimer to update itself from the battlefield timer and the npcs that tell you the time remaining.

I'm not an addon author, so I don't know if this is possible, but couldn't you add an option to fetch the time remaining from the counter displayed when in Wintergrasp?

Yea I've seen this done in another wintergrasp timer addon, i'm looking into this for the next update as it obviously would make it a lot easier.

If the time's off by a certain amount of minutes, make sure you have also set the minutes:

    /wt setmin 20

Example, if the next battle starts at 1:30pm then you'd do the following

    /wt sethour 13
    /wt setmin 30

Also there are some bugs still from what i've seen with the calculation of the time remaining, I am working on these and also an actual options screen to make it easier to change the settings. So if you're having issues the next update should help.

From what I'm reading here this does essentially the same thing as the in-game alarm clock accessible by clicking the time that is on the mini-map (aside from displaying it as a countdown). I may be reading wrong, but that can be a good alternative if you can't seem to get this timer to work.

Hmm i cant seem to get it to work properly, probably my mistake. But if i check the wintergrasp timer in Dalaran and it says 2:19 until next battle how do i set this to reflext this?

Work out what time that would be. For example if it said 2 hours till the next battle and it was currently 4:00pm you would set it to 18 hours and 0 minutes (24 hour time) like so:

    /wt sethour 18
    /wt setmin 0

    Hope that helps
