TipTacTalents - Show Player Talents in Tooltips

An addon to show the talents of players in the tooltip. A cache up to 25 is stored for the last players, so you quickly can see their talents again without having to wait for talents to load.

Despite its name, this addon works completely independent of TipTac. But for further tooltip customisation and enchancements, try out TipTac, which also carries this addon as part of the package.

There is no command line switch or configureable options for TipTacTalents.

Inspect Problems

If you have ever run into a problem where you could not get item tips to show when inspecting, the problem may be this addon. I have never been able to reproduce this, but do try and disable TipTacTalents to see if that eliminates it.

    Occasionally, TTTalents shows incorrect specs for hover'ed targets.

    Ex. a friend of mine is a Warrior, yet TTT shows his spec as "Talents: Holy (17/54/0)" clearly.. he's not holy..... it happens randomly.. but once it shows an incorrect "class" in the spec line, there doesnt seem to be a way to make it right for the whole session..

  • That happens when you moused over the priest that was holy, and TTT thought it was the warrior right next to him, due to the slight delay in the process.

    [ElrickEnonimis], that really isn't a job for this addon.

  • Well one thing this addon could use, if you deem it worthy, is use of the rockcom lib to show talents when you arent within inspect range of the person you're mousing over. Such as party members. EnhancedLFG still does that properly, so that code could be canabalized perhaps?

  • the only thing I'd like this addon to do is show player's spec in Who and LFG like EnhancedLFG used to before it got broken. Sure it could only show talent spec for players using the RockCom lib but alot of ppl use it through Cartographer or Fubar anyways. EnhancedLFG is here: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/enhanced-lfg.aspx

    This project haven't been updated in a long time here on Curse, I've kinda neglected it. So I just put the latest version, which is actually newer than the one included with TipTac.

    [roy7], sometimes this will happen if the mouse is moved over people fast.

    [Maziel], how exactly does MyRolePlay work, does it have its own tooltip? TipTacTalents just adds an extra line to the tooltip, it should work no matter what really. But if you're using TipTac as well, then there might be a problem. It would be nice if you could post a screenshot of the problem, how it should look vs how it does look.

    [FattysXP], what inspect addon are you using? Because TipTacTalents are not allowed to show any talents if the default inspect window or Examiner is open.

    [Araldwenn], TipTac actually has a newer version TipTacTalents than the one here, but what exactly is not working? And what versions are you using?

  • Seems like it's not working anymore since last TipTac update

    I'm not positive, but it would seem that this is the addon causing my issue. Whenever I go to inspect someone, if I mouse over anyone else on the way to look at their items, no tooltips will come up for the items. Probably has to do with this addon inspecting people for talents? Not sure how this addon works but that explains the issue. I've tested a few times with mousing over, and not mousing over, other players than I am targeting. Same results everytime.

    Any chance you can get this to show up on MyRolePlay mod tooltip?

    Other tooltip mods like the QuestGuru quest information have been able to make their mob info etc show up on MyRolePlay mod, not sure how hard it is to do.

    I'd love to be able to use both your mod and keep the formatting of the tooltip from MyRoleplay.

    Thanks.

    Dunno really what causes this error or when exactly it happens and i haven't noticed anything not working, but Baud Error Frame still catches this error from the 08.03.26 version of TipTacTalents:

    Interface\AddOns\TipTacTalents\TipTacTalents.lua:25: attempt to index a nil value
    Count: 7

    Call Stack:
    [C]: ?
    Interface\AddOns\TipTacTalents\TipTacTalents.lua:25: in function <Interface\AddOns\TipTacTalents\TipTacTalents.lua:11>

  • Would be nice to only disable the talent check if we're looking at an opposing faction character, instead of just blocking all PvP targets. Also, should be checking the cache before it checks range, in case we already have the talents for the unit we're viewing.

    Would also be nice if you added a few formatting options (such as allowing us to change the wording - for example I changed mine to say "T" instead of "Talents").

    Cheers for the great addons though - just switched from TinyTip and loving it :)

  • Alright, I've rewritten the inspect function - feel free to use it if you think it works.

    It will now check if a player is friendly (rather than not pvp flagged), and will check the cache before it checks range - that way if you've already inspected someone's talents, you can still see them in the tooltip no matter how far away from you they are.

    -- HOOK: OnTooltipSetUnit
    GameTooltip:HookScript("OnTooltipSetUnit",
    function(self,...)
    uToken = select(2,self:GetUnit());

    if (UnitIsPlayer(uToken)) and (UnitLevel(uToken) > 9 or UnitLevel(uToken) == -1) and ((GetBuildInfo() == "2.3.3" and UnitIsVisible(uToken)) or (UnitIsFriend("player",uToken))) then
    cache.name = UnitName(uToken);
    cache.a, cache.b, cache.c = nil, nil, nil;
    for i = 1, #cache do
    if (cache.name == cache.name) then
    self:AddLine("Spec:|cffffffff "..cache.talents);
    cache.a, cache.b, cache.c = cache.talents:match("(%d+)/(%d+)/(%d+)");
    return;
    end
    end

    if (CheckInteractDistance(uToken,1)) then
    f:RegisterEvent("INSPECT_TALENT_READY");
    NotifyInspect(uToken);
    self:AddLine("Spec:|cffffffff Loading...");
    end
    end
    end

    morbandit, thanks for the posts, for some reason I never thought about having the code load cached players currently out of range, doh! I've added that now, plus a few more changes.
