  • About TooltipWealth
  •

TooltipWealth (originally TinyTipWealth) is an Ace3 module that lets you sneakily inspect how much gold your mouseover target has made so far using the Achievement API.

Features

  • Display most gold ever owned (default)
  • Display total gold acquired - may be used to indicate the economic prowess of a character, but is usually wildly inflated for the wealth owned by auction house players as they tend to have very high income and expenditure.
  • Disable for opposite faction
  • Disable when in combat
  • Disable when not in major city
  • Show wealth as coins or plain text (e.g. 1g 10s)
  • Currently tested with: TinyTip, TipTac, TipTop, CowTip, normal game tooltip

Todo

  • Record top 5 characters with highest statistic

Warning

!!! Some might consider the use of this addon to be an intrusion of privacy, please do not abuse it for harassing or intimidating other players. !!!

  • This is a great little addon.
I have some easy to implement feature requests.

    1. Don't display silver and copper.
    2. Round the gold to the nearest 10, 100, or 1000
    3. Put spaces between sets of zeros like 10 000g (or implement number 2)

Otherwise this is great! Sure beats having to do it by hand each and every time.

I wanted to see if the addon worked, so I tested it with two friends. For the first one, it said he had around 2400 gold. I read him this amount, and he said he had 201 gold. The second person had 21 gold, but it said they had 243 gold. So, this add on does not work for me.At all

WoW doesn't exactly let us see the actual amount of gold in another person's purse, but only gives us 2 stats:

    (copied from below)
Basically 'Most Gold Ever Owned' means the highest record of gold the person ever had in their purse. Sometimes, if a player always saves up gold and doesn't spend much (like splurge 20k on a motorbike) this will be the exact amount of gold they have. This is the default, so your friends probably saved up to 243g/2400g once, but spent them already.

Then 'Total Gold Acquired' is how much money the person has ever looted, earned and spent since level 1, so for most level 80 players this should be a pretty high number (even above 100k).

So anyway, the addon is *not* supposed to be used to guess how much gold someone is, but how *wealthy* someone is by checking out their income and expenditure.

I really love this addon but it conflicts with my Gear Score addon. They fight over position in the tooltip is there any where else you could put it?

Hmm, tooltipwealth uses a pretty straightforward API to just append a line so it isn't supposed to happen... which gear score addon do you use?

Ok very simple solution to this problem which I didnt take into account before is that it wasnt showing the gear score because I wasnt close enough to inspect the person. sorry bout that.

hey there, ur system is very good mate. but it's a bit wrong it said a dude had bout 4289golds and i asked him if it was anything near that, and he said: nope :P. allthough it's funny anyway:D but not 100% correct^^

Thanks! Yes, the achievement API can occasionally return bad numbers, but most of the time it should be accurate down to the shilling. :) So you probably have 'total gold acquired' turned on, and your friend probably spent a lot of money over time. :P

Could you elaborate on how the problem looks like, like with a screenshot?
Otherwise if you go to the general addon options, you should be able to change it to display Most Gold Ever Owned instead.

oh thx, its still off though, is there anyway you could get it to tell you the exact amount of gold someone has at that moment?

Ah, WoW doesn't allow us to check that, so basically we can only 'spy' on these 2 other stats for fun. :P

Basically 'Most Gold Ever Owned' means the highest record of gold the person ever had in their purse. Sometimes, if a player always saves up gold and doesn't spend much (like splurge 20k on a motorbike) this will be the exact amount of gold they have.

Most of the time you won't care about how much gold they have, but how much gold they are *earning* and *spending*... check out some bank chars around the AH sometime. :)
