Features

Description

Did you join a raiding guild, but truly "belong" in another guild? Do you miss reading chat from your "real" guild? Thanks to TB Cross-Guild Chat, you can read chat from other guilds, and talk on those guilds' chat channels as well, as if you were a member yourself.

Receiving Cross-Guild Chat

Whenever your peers are online, you will start receiving chat, guild announcements, and achievement announcements from the guild channels they are allowed to read. This option is configurable via the Blizzard Interface menu (default: enabled).

Sending Cross-Guild Chat

Whenever your peers are online, you may use the following commands to send chat over to their guild channels, provided they have sufficient permissions to talk over those channels:

  • /tg <message>: send the specified message to your peers' guild channel.
  • /tgo <message>: send the specified message to your peers' officer channel.
  • /tgmotd <message>: set your peers' guild messages of the day to the specified message.

Note: Those commands will send the same messages to ALL of your peers, so it is recommended that if you specify several peers, they all be alts of the same person. You may prevent your peers from talking over your guild's channels via the Blizzard Interface menu (default: enabled).

Officer Chat

TB Cross-Guild Chat also offers the option to share your officer channel with your peers. Doing so will allow your peers to see your guild's officer channel, as well as let them talk over it. This option is configurable via the Blizzard Interface menu (default: disabled).

Special Note

In order for you to receive cross-guild chat, your peers must also have you defined as a peer, and as stated earlier they need to be online. This add-on works two-way, and specifying a player as a peer is how you establish a trust relationship as far as TB Cross-Guild Chat is concerned.

Setup

Open your Blizzard Interface menu, and under TB Cross-Guild Chat's Peers section, enter the name of your friend who is in a different guild. Then have him or her do the same for you, adding your name to his or her Peers list. Click Accept, and Okay. You may now use the slash commands to communicate cross-guild!

Notice

TB Cross-Guild Chat depends on TB Core and TB Chat Enhancements. The latest releases of TB Core and TB Chat Enhancements are included with TB Cross-Guild Chat so you do not need to download them separately.

About the Author

I am a professional software engineer who plays World of WarCraft way too much and develops add-ons as a hobby (crazy I know!). I have played the same character since the release of World of WarCraft, a hunter called Valana, in the Team BATTLE guild on the Mug'thol realm. I raid some, but my primary focus in this game is PvP (mainly arenas).

Please donate to help keep this add-on going!

It is possible that this add-on no longer works, as I quit WoW in August and haven't worked on add-on development since WoW 3.1. I apologize for any inconvenience.

main question is this... blizzard made it where only guild members of a guild can read that guild chat... so is this even legal by game rules? or even blizzard for that matter? one person in <said guild> should not be able to read chat from <other said guild>

Of course it's legal. Blizzard made a lot of things the way they did, allowing people to extend the functionality. They make guild chat available to add-ons, and they make it possible for add-ons to send that guild chat to each other. There's nothing stopping you from repeating your guild's chat to a friend, and there's nothing stopping an addon from doing it for you.

Add-ons are pretty much always legal. Whatever is unintended will be blocked. As long as it's not blocked, it's perfectly OK. Obviously you should still apply some common sense and not exploit an oversight that would give you a massive game advantage, but it is far from being the case here.

was just checking... a friend of mine wanted to check on the legality of it.. if you can get it to work with patch 3.2 that'd be great :D and i've got it to update later thnx again.

  • Aw man. I saw this and thought about how useful this would be to get together with my friends who are in another guild. Although I read the comments and was disseminated about the lack of 3.2 compatibility!

I'm a patient person though :3 It is an excellent Idea for a addon and I hope you keep with it!!!

One of the issues for it is also when someone gets an achievement it prevents it from broadcasting in the normal channels. Only way you can see if someone got one is if you are actually in the same guild as that toon.

  • its not working....i think it has something to do with 3.2

Is it possible to use /who to determine who is on in your peerlist? The duplication deal is killing it for me...

    Reply Report Permalink
  • flobbit said

    that is: /who guildname

  • Valana_TB said

It is not (or at least not in an acceptable or practical fashion), because /who doesn't provide an answer immediately. The result might be delayed for 5 seconds or more.

The plan currently is to use the friends list to check whether peers are online, since that information is immediately available to the client. I have been working on this and hopefully will be able to release it soon.
