  • About Talented
  •

Talented is a replacement to the default Talent UI, with a lot of added features.

Feature List

  • See the complete talent tree on a single frame.
  • Create and view templates for all classes and all pet types.
  • Set a specific template as a target, and see it when you're spending your next talent point on level up.
  • Apply complete templates with a single click, after a talent wipe.
  • Hunters can view the spec of their pet and apply templates to them.
  • Share your current build with other, or any template you've made.
  • Import templates directly from the Blizzard Talent calculator, wowhead or wowdb.
  • Export templates as URL to wowhead, wowdb or the Blizzard Talent calculator.
  • View and switch to your alternate spec when you've bought it.
  • Allow pet templates to be imported from and export to wowhead pet calculator.
  • Inspection of other characters will also inspect their alternate spec, if they have one.
  • Integrated Glyph frame, similar to the one from Blizzard's Default UI. This frame is independent from Talented main frame, though.
  • A macro command /talented apply <template> allows to automatically apply a template based on its name.
  • Shift-clicking on an entry in the template menu opens the template in a secondary frame, allowing to compare two templates side by side.

Supplement

  • Talented_Loader allows Talented to be loaded only when needed. This improves the time to first login and the memory payload of the game if you don't use Talented in a game session. AddonLoader users do not need this, as it provides mostly the same benefits.

Talented v2.4.4

  • Talented v2.4.4 adds the ability to switch to the alternate spec via a right-click on the corresponding spec tab.
  • Talented v2.4.4 refactor some code to take advantage of new features in World of Warcraft client 3.3.0.

Talented v2.4.3

  • Talented v2.4.3 fixes a few issues and regressions.

Talented v2.4.2

  • Talented v2.4.2 adds targets for the pet spec. The target is based on the pet name, in order to give the most flexibility.

Talented v2.4.1

  • Talented v2.4.1 fix the premature loading of Talented_SpecTabs.
  • Talented v2.4.1 add support for wowarmory pet talent calculator links (both import and export).
  • Talented v2.4.1 fix pet talent updating.

Talented v2.4

Talented v2.4 is only compatible with the 3.2.0 patch. It contains the following enhancements:

  • The 3.2.0 wow patch includes a talent tree change to the Frost branch of Death Knight. Talented v2.4 is compatible with this change. This change means that some death knights templates that invest in frost will be incompatible. Talented will fix these templates and will warn you about them.
  • Talented v2.4 split the glyph frame support into its own lod module.
  • Talented v2.4 stops checking the validity of all templates at load time. This makes Talented load faster and use less memory at startup. This means that the invalid templates for death knights will be fixed when you try to select them.
  • Talented v2.4 adds the point distribution of each templates to the corresponding menu entry, as well as the name of the primary tree.
  • Talented v2.4 fixes a graphical glitch that occurs when RestartGx() is called.

Previous versions

  • Talented v2.3 integrated Talented_SpecTabs with Talented.
  • Talented v2.2 updated the Template menu to remove "Current" and "Alternate" specs. The interface consistently shows "Primary" and "Secondary" spec instead.
  • Talented v2.2 added the ability for both specs to use a separate target.
  • Talented v2.2 fixed the last remaining bugs related to pet talents.
  • Talented v2.2 added an option to add a small space under the talent panes in the main Talented frame so that the different bottom strings and widgets do not overlap with the talents.

  • Great Addon By the way comes in handy with keeping future/raid/pvp specs right there to use when needed. Was wondering, if i saved the talented folder or even better the whole WoW folder to and extended for backup(which i have) does thsi save all my my talented specs and settings???????, as my friend said when he put my copy on his PC he had to configure addons again etc. Cheers

The important file to keep all your saved templates is <wow install>\WTF\<accountname>\SavedVariables\Talented.lua (Not quite sure of the path, it's something like this).

You would need to make a backup of this file and copy it in the same folder on your new wow installation to get all your templates back.

  • Hi Jerry. I'm a big fan of your work, but I can't use talented atm since it crashes my game. More detailed : When I'm in a fight where duplicates of the party spawns, eg. last boss in Old Kingdom, or the mob in Halls of reflection before the Escape event. I get one of those red crosses with a message telling me that WoW requested way too much memory, more specifically Talented. It might be because I'm using TinyTip which shows talent info i don't know, but something goes wrong when it sees a copy of a party member with a hostile tag :)

    -Cheers.

  • I dig the concept but as a feature request, can u make the confirm talent more like blizzard default where u confirm after inputting all unspent pts rather than after each point? Also, after all points are spent graying out what can't be used. And I'm not sure if I missed it but there didn't seem to be anything in the tooltip that informs u how many pts are required in each tree to activate certain talent. I like the basis of this addon but wish that it's basic functions resembled blizzard's.

If you have to confirm twice, then you're using this addon incorrectly.

Create a template then apply it to your spec.

Okay, you can do this, using "Copy template", then editing, then "Apply template", then switch back to it and "Delete template", but that's awfully cumbersome if you just have a small handful of points to spend. You're better off just confirming two or three times, even if that's the "wrong" way to do it.

What would be really nice is if, when you hit "Edit talents", it basically created a temporary template automatically, and then deleted it automatically after you apply it. That would avoid both all the extra "confirm" buttons and all the extra clicking of creating and deleting a temporary template.

Under what circumstance do you have two or three talent points to allocate ? Either you have one per level, or all when resetting.

Switching specs makes the default experience bar and what looks like the default vehicle bar (3 blank buttons) appear. I am using Dominos for my buttons which hides those by default. This only occurs with Talented enabled.

  • For what it's worth, I get the same thing and I'm using Bartender4 for my buttons.

In the Hunter pet tree for Tenacity, Talented has it that you require 3 points in Culling the Herd before you are able to pick up Last Stand. I think this was required previously, but it is no longer that way now.

Ok, well this wont help me for now, but maybe it'll help someone in the future.. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to apply an imported talent set onto the secondary spec. Is this possible, and if so, how?

Ahh, ok.. I figured it out on my own finally.. You have to switch to the spec with empty talents 1st, then apply the imported ones..

You should include in the features, Talents are viewable below level 10!

there's seems to be a bug or limit that if I have more than 25 templates per class the rest will be 'greyed' out.

I have this issue too; except i can't select anything over 19 templates.

The reason I have more than that is I have a guide/in-game guide I had gotten and it gives templates to use as you level.

So, sense it's a Blizzard bug and you won't provide a work-around fro it I guess I'm kinda outa luck for those templates then?

This is a Blizzard Bug for which I do not plan to add a specific workaround. Other addons might do it, though, in which case the problem will vanish in Talented also.
