  • About Sunn - Viewport Art
  •

Sunn's Viewport Art allows you to change the size of the rendered world area (viewport) and adds textured artwork in the non-rendered areas.

Usage

Configure the viewport and artwork options using the Minimap icon or FuBar.

Use /sunnart (or /sunn or /sa) for options

Keybindings

Bind a key in the wow options to show/hide the UI and SunnArt graphics

Art Packs

Art packs are optional and should be installed as if they were separate addons (although they are useless without the SunnArt addon).

Extract the zipped folder into your interface/addons folder for it to function.

Previews of the artwork in the packs are available in the screenshots on this page.

Art Packs are available on this site.

Custom Artwork

It's not difficult to create your own artwork if you have the right tools:

  • Resize your artwork to 1536*256 (1536x512 for wider panels)
  • Divide your artwork into 3 similar sized panels, left, centre and right, each with dimensions 128, 256 or 512 (these are the only dimensions that WoW will support).
  • Save each panel as (or convert them to) Targa (.tga) format and replace any files in any artpack you like.

eg. you can replace the royal theme by saving your artwork panels as royal1.tga (left panel), royal2.tga (centre panel) and royal3.tga (right panel). place these files in the SunnArt folder and Bob's your auntie - Royal theme now displays your own artwork.

SunnArt fully supports transparencies, I just haven't found a use for it in my own artpacks.

Submitting Artwork

If you have artwork that you would like to submit for Art Pack 5 and onward, please mail it to sunnart@uksf.com and if I like it then I will include it in the next release.

FAQ

Art Packs are not available?

Make sure the art packs are installed in your addons folder, NOT in the SunnArt folder

Missing Minimap button or Fubar configuration

Type:

/sa hide

This will toggle the visibility of the config plugin

  • Thanks for the great addon, working just right.

However (just thought I'd ask), it seems to be decreasing in-game FPS by 5% approximately (from 180 to 170 while flying up high, no one around), which is not logical since (as I understand it) it actually diminishes the siez of the rendered area (ie, less work for the cpu/graphics).

Do you know something about this "issue" ?

Your understanding of the viewport is slightly off. If you reduce the vertical size of your viewport then the field of view increases to fill the resized horizontal. It doesn't just chop off and ignore the "black areas". Reducing the vertical size of the viewport renders the exact same things vertically and a little extra horizontally for that "widescreen" effect.

Personally, I disable the viewport and just use the panels overlayed with /sa vertviewport

Is there anyway possible to disable the top bar and just leave the bottom bar on? Thanks.

Yes, just set the width of the top bar to zero.

Is it possible to change the strata of the artwork? I use Sunn in conjunction with KGPanels. If I set the strata of a panel any higher than background, it starts to cover up UI elements (specifically the minimap, in my configuration). But at a background strata, any artwork on the viewport covers the panels (but not the minimap?).

To do that all you need to do is set the alpha layer to a shade of gray based on the transparency level. easiest way would be to create a new layer, fill it with black, adjust the transparency down, create a new blank layer above that, merge the two layers to "set" the transparency level, then copy the layer and paste it into an alpha layer that is set to white.

If that is a bit much to follow feel free to contact me on here.

And to Sunn, my pack is available here as well, feel free to add it to your list.

  • First off, I've been a big fan of your work since you first released it, keep it up.

As I understand the process of creating new images, I'm interested in creating a skin that's merely a semi-transparent image of black. With this, the graphic would appear to be a shader rather than an image. This way, I have a bar on the bottom where I can place spells, with a shaded background to help 'pop' each icon out, but still see behind the image.

In all, does anyone out there know the process of taking a transparent file, adding a black layer, making said layer 60% transparent, and still have it saved as a TGA file?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You dont need a viewport addon for this. the purpose of a viewport is to shove the playable area around. To do what you want to do, you need a more traditional panel addon, like KGPanels.

    Hi!

    I have kind of the same problem as inrii a month ago;
I use the addon SFSkins to make my ui a bit more fun, and when I have the vertical viewpoint option on, I can see the Sfs, but when I set to an artwork, my sfs disappears =/ I have tried to turn off ALL my addons except sunn and sfs, and this still occurs. I don't have any other addon to test this, so I guess the problem is with sfs? Or is there anything you can do to fix this, so that sunn is always the very background? Because I saw your reply and you said that sunn is already set to be the absolute background.

I am not sure if I am missing something or not, but it seems that the art I had previously has been discontinued? http://s366.photobucket.com/albums/oo107/Wymorn/?action=view¤t=WoWScrnShot_011909_212932.jpg is a screenshot of what I am looking for. I recently got a new computer and it seems like that art is not available while I was browsing through the art packs. If you can direct me to a download link or tell me which pack has this art, I would be very thankful!

It's in the 6th artwork pack. I just had to dig for it, too (since they didn't include a screenshot of that particular layout).

    Enjoy!

    Hello,
I see all 4 sides (left right top bottom) pull from the same 3 TGA files.
I was wondering if theres a way to make different sides pull from different TGA files so I can make a custom artwork that won't replicate the same thing on all sides?

    Thanks

  • hey man, I looked at your art in the picture and i wanted to know what addons you use for your minimap, chat, and such to make it so perfect.

That's quite an old screenshot but my UI hasn't changed much. The main ones that I currently use are:

    ArkInventory - Bag management
Autobar - An extra bar for quick access to potions/trinkets/professions etc
    BasicMinimap - Clean, square minimap.
    Cartographer - Mapmod
    Cowtip - Tooltips
    Dominos - Actionbar replacement
InlineAura & OmniCC & Redrange - timers on your buttons
    Fontain - Font management
Fubar - you know, it's fubar
Outfitter - quick access to various gear sets
TidyMinimap - a small bar to house all those annoying minimap buttons
    Prat - Chat pane control
    WIM - whisper control
    XPerl - Unit frames

And it all fits nicely into my top and bottom panels.

Just lately whenever I use the fubar to select a theme or change the height etc. it locks my right-mouse button until I log out of my character. Also it does not show the changes until I log out and back in again. Even reloading the ui or clicking outside of WoW does not fix this.

    Hi!

I've had Sunn Viewport Art for a while now, but only recently signed up for Curse. Anyway, I've had a problem with this addon for a while now. I find that when I have it set to an art theme (only the ones that come with the addon, no extra packs or anything), I can't see the chat window (which is in the non-game screen area) and the shift-m minimap doesn't display properly. When I set the addon to just a single color (in this instance, black), there are no problems and I can have my chat window and minimap in the blacked-out areas. Can you think of a reason for this?

    Thanks!
