  • About Stealth Alerter
  •

Stealth Alerter detects if someone near you uses a stealth ability.  I originally wrote this AddOn because a very annoying Rogue named Ýes hangs out in Wintergrasp on the Shu'halo server where people are fishing.  I've also found it useful in raids, battlegrounds and arenas.  The following actions are detected: Invisibility (Mage), Invisibility Potion, Lesser Invisibility Potion, Prowl (Druid), Shadowmeld (Night Elf), Stealth (Rogue) and Vanish (Rogue).  "/sal on" enables Stealth Alerter and "/sal off" disables it.  "/sal" while enabled lists all options and settings.

  • Sorry about that, you must play a Horde character. I just uploaded 0.99.5 which fixes the problem. I will test future releases on both Alliance and Horde characters.

The default combat log shows when people use stealth & etc, all this addon does is display that so it's easier for you to see, rather than staring at the combat log all day.
Some people are so stupid -_-

    This is hilarious.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ILLEGAL LUA ADDON.
And when one does come around, blizzard breaks it (cross faction leetspeak)

THIS IS PERFECTLY LEGAL (and helps me defend my poor mage while fishing from bloodthirsty rogues)

  • As a few people have stated, this AddOn simply adds an additional chat message to the existing UI mechanics when a player uses a stealth ability. It cannot prevent, remove or detect the ability once cast. The idea that this is somehow against Blizzard's ToS is pretty imaginative. In fact, to prevent AddOns from doing unfair things, many of the game's internal functions are protected and cannot even be used by AddOns.

Here is a simple test you can do for yourself.
    1. Go somewhere quiet, outside a major city where there are few other NPCs or players. I personally do all my testing and event tracing just outside Dalaran.
    2. Set the chat window to the "Combat Log" tab with the "Everything" tab selected.
    3. Turn off the WoW background music, and listen carefully.
    4. Cast Stealth.
    5. Observe the UI. You disappear from the screen, the stealthing noise is played, and these two messages are logged in the Combat Log:
    Player gains Player's Stealth.
    Player cast Stealth.

If you have Stealth Alerter enabled then you'll see an additional message in the General chat tab, for example: "Player cast Stealth rank 4 (speed reduced by 30%)."

That's pretty much it. Now go forth and ROFL stomp.

    Rogues tears are so delicious...

Seriously though... turn up your volume... and you can HEAR when a rogue is near. How is this add-on any different then that? What advantage did you suddenly lose? You are still stealthed...you can still stun->wtfomgbbqitsarogue->dead.

Agreed. It should be removed and banned.

This addon should be illegal. Or how about someone makes an addon that tells you the second anyone targets you and starts casting something so you have time to vanish or stealth?

    This should be removed.

Actually, if you don't have a target and someone targets you and starts casting, you will automatically target them anyway. It's in the default UI.

this add on is definately a load of bs and should be banable if used and it should be taken off this site it takes away the one thing rogues have to equili a fight against a caster that can kill from a distance or a plate wearer that can take a beating and only lose a little health

    Nice addon, works great.
How about u make a small hud for it so the message apears somewhere on the screen?

  • Thanks for the suggestion. If it printed a message in a separate frame on the screen, I imagine people would want to move it. I'll see if I can figure out how to do that.

  • This is a good idea, but me being a rogue, wonder, WHY WOULD PEOPLE WANT THIS? It ruins the fun of being taken down by a rogue.
