  • About Simple Range Indicator
  •

This is an ace3 version of the very old simple range addon. Now the frame can be locked and moved by mouse and commandline arguments not requiring external addons like moveanything anymore.

Type /sri or /simplerangeindicator to get all options.

When installing this while having the older simplerange, delete the simplerange folder to avoid trouble. The new folder name is simplerangeindicator.

It now contains optional SharedMediaLibrary support as well as RangeCheck-2.0 support and libraries are embedded.

GUI configuration via blizzard's addon UI is also supported.

Nice that you moved this to WowAce in addition to here. v2.4.2 still works without issues in WoW 3.0.8.

One thing, though. The "Simple Range Indicator 3.0.8 release" download above contains no files other than a "Changelog-simple-range-indicator-3.0.8 release.txt". Same thing on the WowAce site download.

Uploaded updated version for 2.2. Also includes font selection now. Needs Ace's Shared Media Library but works without.

The addon relies on class and ability independent ways to get ranges. For now I don't plan to change that, but maybe if I find time. The main idea here is to get a rough feel for ranges more than exact numbers. There is in fact another addon called RangeHelp which allows you to link a range indicator to abilities. It's mostly meant for hunters but I have used it with other classes. Maybe that one is more close to what you are looking for?

Im sorry, disregard my last message. Can you just make it so we have the ability to modify / add ranges?

Can you please give it the ability, or make another version that will make the range to 30 meters instead of 28? I am a warlock and most of my casts are up to 30 meters. This is a very nice mod.

Ok it's been long and I always wanted this. Now this little addon can move itself around. Delete the old simplerange folder. Now it's called SimpleRangeIndicator, to match the small InCombatIndicator I hacked.

Type /sri to get options. The main ones are:

    /sri lock

For locking and unlocking the frame. And

    /sri font text <number>

To change the font size. Enjoy.

  • If any body does have the problem that i had which was moving the frame and couldnt find it on the moveanything list( you need an addon called moveanything in order to move the SimpleRange frame) type this command: /move RangerFrame tehn press enter, move the frame where you want , then right click on the frame, then your done, =)

Released a version where the range frame will no longer capture mouse clicks, so you can click at stuff behind the display.

@Naddral: works fine for me. It's the very bottom of the move anything list if you just type /move

Thanks Elisia...... I have downloaded moveanything but there is no mention of RangerFrame in it. Am I missing something?

You need to get the moveanything addon to move it. The name of the frame is RangerFrame.

Is there a simple way of moving the display... at the moment it is hidden beneath one of my other mods.

This addon only gives rough ranges based on what can be extracted from one function that does give them in these quantities. There is no way to discriminate easily other granulatities. Anyway, I'm not the original author, just resurrecting this for a little extra range info. Try range help or nudge to find the 41 yard cutoff point.

Reasonable. But once you are over 28 yards, the GUI window displays "Range >28", inferring you are more than 28 yards away. Which makes this mod pretty much pointless for spellcasters (who have a 30 to 40 yard range on most spells) & hunters (who have a max of 35 yards; with the HawkEye talent over 40). The mod might have helped hunters (only) in the old days when they had a dead zone, but no longer in WoW 2.3 where they can fire from 5 yards or more away.

A mod very similar to this that shows ranges properly up to a character's maximum distance (for all classes): RangeDisplay ( http://files.wowace.com/RangeDisplay/RangeDisplay.zip ). The fonts & colors it uses are not as nice as Simple Range Indicator's, though, so here's hoping this mod is changed to become more useful soon :).

Thanks for the commend Zidomo. I've actually been playing with the thought of using RangeLib for this addon but haven't gotten around to doing so. Shouldn't be that hard actually, if I can find the time. Come back here in two weeks and if there is a motion I've probably worked on this. Else it may be better to poke the RangeDisplay guy to steal the font stuff from this addon ;)

OK I added a beta version (you will not get this from default download yet, just dl from the download list) called 2.3.0.1beta.

It contains RangeCheck-1.0 support if it is present.

I won't bundle RangeCheck-1.0 so go download it from wowace if you want that feature. It works fine without and will use the old interaction ranges that blizzard API provides.

There are 1-2 small things I may wanna add, which is why this isn't release yet. It should work fine though. Don't think there is any chance for a bug here at all.
