SilverDragon tracks rares. It'll remember where you last saw a rare mob, and will pop up a notification message when you get near one.

It comes with a list of rares. Type "/silverdragon" to bring up the options, and use the "Import Data" button to bring 'em in. (It's not installed by default, in case people would prefer to keep the suspense alive. :D )

If you import the default dataset: the very first time you come within visual range of a rare, SilverDragon will tell you. It only works the first time because it's checking the game's mob cache, and once you've seen it the game will remember. Remember, this won't happen if you don't do an import.

You can clear the mob cache by quitting WoW and deleting the Cache sub-directory in your WoW directory.

If you have nameplates enabled it'll scan through them to find rares nearby. Otherwise it requires you to mouseover/target a rare, or for your party member/pets to do likewise.

When a rare appears, SilverDragon will pop up a frame that you can click on to target it.

SilverDragon can also create a macro to target any rares that are known in the current zone. It's just that good.

A LDB plugin is included to list rares in your current zone. I like ButtonBin as a viewer, but there'll be a minimap icon if you don't have any viewers installed. (You could use Broker2FuBar to put it on FuBar.)

If you have Cartographer or HandyNotes installed it will add map notes for rares, which can be shared with others.

Get massive lua errors every time a rare is seen. No import button anywhere to import the database.......

  • Or if possible add the coordinate to the end of the text 'Click to Target (45,32)'

  • If anyone is planning on updating/changing this. would it be possible to add some kind of indication of where the mob was found. I have often had an alert while flying from one point to another (not on my own mount) and when I land I have no idea of where the actual mob was found.
It could be nice if the last seen location of the mob were added to the map (cartographer) with a different icon than those from the cache.

I hope someone would like to make this change.

Okay... so I've had several false alarms zoning in the Scholazar Basin. I'd get the mob found popup as soon as I zone in, and would scout the entire zone and not find them. I installed NPC Scan recently and have been running both. I noticed something this time though. NPC scan recognized the rarespawn in Dalaran when it was cached, Silverdragon popped up an alert when I zoned in to Scholazar. Seems to be a bug of some form.

  • Getting the same errors as burrisjm as well.
Been using this addon for 6 months and havent had this problem until this version.

  • Still getting the error posted by burrisjm, along with the occasional game crash (though the crashes are greatly reduced since the 3.2.2a patch).

I'm not sure if it's silverlight or another add-on fighting with it, but about 50% of the time when a rare mob is found I get this error:

    http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/4269/wowscrnshot091809122937.jpg

The error just keeps happening, the count # in the box just continually increments, I can't even scroll down b/c the errors come so quickly. Eventually WoW warns me to disable all my add-ons.

I don't know what to make of this, does anyone have a suggestion?

  • I'm getting this same error from time to time, but not only when a rare is found — though it could be the addon /is/ detecting a nearby rare, but the error message pops up and interrupts the notification so I never see it.

Of greater concern, however, are the random crashes. Some time after installing SilverDragon, WoW started crashing. No freeze-up; the game will just blink off and I'm left with the Blizzard error reporter. Because I had installed a few other addons around the same time I installed SilverDragon, I didn't immediately make the connection. But then a few of the crashes happened just as SD gave the notification sound and popped up the click-target. A few of these crashes have happened while I was in combat with a mob, which meant, of course, that I was dead when I logged back in.

I've disabled SD and the crashes seem, so far, to have stopped.

  • It turns out these crashes may not have been related to SilverDragon. I was just reading the patch notes for today's 3.2.2a patch, and found this:

"Fixed a crash Mac clients were experiencing with ATI driver."

So it may be that my crash problems were in the game itself, not the addon. I'll re-enable SD and see what happens.
