  • About Sharder
  •

Sharder is an AddOn developed for enchanters who often find themselves sharding high level BoP instance items instead of them going to a player.

Sharder contains a frame which displays how many Small DreamShards, Dream Shards, and Abyss Crystals have been added to your inventory over the course of an instance. On entering an instance, you will be prompted to reset these numbers, so that shards currently in your inventory will not be counted.

====================
***             Features             ***
====================
- Passively tracks number of shards/crystals entering the players' inventory, by any means.
- Updates counter on trade, in case you have more than one Sharder in your group.
- Movable frames.
- Prompt to reset counter upon entering an instance.
- Allows amount of shards to be printed to Party or Raid.
- Auto-replies Shard count to anyone who whispers "!sharder" to you.
- Opens Trade window on your target when you click a Shard icon.
- If the Trade window is already open, it will pick up 1 Shard from your inventory, and open your bags.

    I have been looking at the code of things like EnhancedStackSplit and Trade Dispenser, etc... I am not experienced enough with Lua to know how to help out here. I was really hoping I would find the right code to make this auto send the shard to the trade window after being split, without even having to open bags. No luck. Maybe you can interpret their code better than me and get it going. Hope I am pointing you in the right direction though.

    I know what sort of code to put in to make it work. The problem (as far as I can tell) is that the game just doesn't let several things like that happen at once. If you use Auctioneer / AuctionLite, or any of those, and you look at your bags when it splits the items, you'll see that it breaks the item, puts it in a vacant spot, and then adds it to the auction frame, over a second or two. That delay is probably where the key lies.

    Suggestion: Guild Bank Functionality: As the typical sharder for the guild, was curious if you could add a feature to dump off what you gained in a raid to whatever guild bank tab you have open when you click on the icon of Sharder. That would be a nice addition.

    Nice idea. At the moment, I'll be focusing on bugs that crop up, but once it passes beta, I'll definitely look into adding that functionality.

  • What a smashing idea, not just for instances but for those times when your guildies want every green they've ever looted turned into enchanting mats...

  • After limited use, I've got to highlight my initial impression: damn, this thing won't shut up. Out of 16 characters I have, only 2 are enchanters, yet this thing pops open every time I log into a character... Can it be made more intelligent, or closed-by-default?

    just enable for the two characters that use it...add on button in lower left corner on character screen; just pick which toon you want to edit addons for in the drop down menu. lol.

    Yeah, at your character select screen, there's a button at the lower-right to let you enable and disable AddOns. A drop down menu lets you do it for individual characters. Even if the Sharder window didn't open for all your characters, it would still use up (at least some) resources, so there's no point in having it turned on at all for them.

  • Other addons can work out if they're needed and uload themselves, can this not work here?

    After further use, I see this only really tracks the endgame stuff so it's not as much use to me as I'd hoped. Still, it's a great idea and what it does, it does well.

    It's there now. It's not the "current version", dunno how to change that, but it's in the download section.

    Love this addon! just tried it out on my shammy. Quick question or two though...Can't seem to get it to separate 1 shard from a stack when trade window is already open, by clicking the shard icon on sharder. It pulls the whole stack. Also, any way I can change what the pitch says? Would like to be able to add loot rules to it as well. Everything else works great, reset option is great and it looks nice on the screen. Great job! :D

    With the separation thing, you have to put the single shard in a vacant bag spot first. It's just how the game works. There's a way to do it I'm sure (since many auction AddOns do it), but I don't know how yet!

    To change the messages that appear, you'll have to go right into the .lua file yourself and change it manually.
    Pitch to party - line 241
    Pitch to raid - line 237
    Report to party - line 229
    Report to raid - line 225

    Don't touch anything that's not enclosed in quotes, and you should be able to change it to your liking. I recommend Notepad++ for editing.
