RhadaTip Dps/Hps Tooltip Enhancer 3.0.3

  • What does RhadaTip do?
  1. Item vs Item comparisons (to know how much dps this new badge item will grant to you, how much dkp you should bid on this newly dropped raid loot, etc).
    1. Item vs Item comes with an auto filling socket mechanism
    2. RhadaTip support trinkets comparisons.
  2. Full gear evaluation, and projected full gear value (as the result of swapping the tooltipped item with the currently equipped item).
    1. This means that the item comparison is always accurate. Limiting the scope of the comparison only to the two items themselves will produce highly inaccurate results (as a consequence of passing the hit cap, breaking a tier set bonus etc)
    2. Thus, RhadaTip supports the hit (soft/hard) cap, the expertise hard cap, and tier set bonuses.
  3. One-button-optimizer for the whole gear. Clicking this button, RhadaTip will scan your equipped items plus all the items in your bags, compute which combination will result in the highest gear xPS value, and equip it.
  4. The comparison between items and setups can go n items ahead of your current gear, up to the best in slot configuration if you want, by using the combination of RhadaTip and WoWEquip.
    1. This is extremely useful. An item that is a small dps gain at the moment, might be a good dps gain (or a dps loss, for that matter) after having changed another item. As an example, an item drops (ie. a new pair of bracers). It is a small dps gain for you at the moment. You are only two emblems away from getting a new pair of legs. Before passing or bidding dkp, you might be interested in knowing what kind of dps gain those bracers would net to you also factoring in the new pair of leggings that you are about to get. Using RhadaTip and WoWEquip, that is possible.
    2. This is also much more useful for the average raider than a simple BiS list. The best in slot list is actually quite useless considering that those items are only the highest dps items when you combine them all together, and less than 0.00001% of the raiders will ever get them before the next tier is released.
    3. Easy, on the fly comparisons between your full gear set and another player's set.
  5. RhadaTip links your current setup to your currently active talent tree. Swapping the active talent tree will automatically swap all values within RhadaTip. This (for example) means no overhead for a RhadaTip user changing from restoration to balance before a raid.
  6. RhadaTip comes with a gem optimizer. The gem optimizer's use is twofold.
    1. On the left handside, it shows the best gem of each colour, based on your currently set scaling values.
    2. On the right handside, it will compute the optimal gemming of any item, be it an item that you already own (and therefore might be already gemmed), or an item that you don't own. It will also show what gain you will get by regemming, so that you can better evaluate if it is worth going for it.
  7. It comes with a collection of pre defined scaling values accessible by the /rt pv slash command. These values are mostly taken from SimulationCraft for maximum reliability and actuality.
    1. When you log in with RhadaTip for the first time, it will compare your talents against those of the pre-set scaling values, and automatically load a template if there is a match.
  8. By using RhadaTip in combo with Auc-Searcher-RhadaTip, you can easily scan the auction house to find upgrades for you.
  • How does it work?
To make the "xPS gain = n" show meaningful numbers, type /rt sv to open the input frame. Type in your scaling values. Once you have saved them with the button, they will be saved for future game sessions.
If you don't have your scaling values, use /rt pv and select the closest set of scaling values to you (based on your gear level and talents).
If you have spent your talent in a way that matches one of the RhadaTip saved templates, the scaling values will be automatically set (but I still suggest to review them).
To make the "Total gear xPS = n" show even more meaningful numbers, type /rt hc to open the input frame. Type in your desired hit percentage that you want to achieve from gear only. As an example, if your hit cap versus a boss is at 17% hit, and you plan to receive +4% hit from raid buffs or racials, you have to put 13 in this frame (mind not putting the % symbol in here too). Here you can also set a "some casting time" value used to compute trinket procs, and the default filling gems for each empty socket bonus. Once you have saved them with the button, it will be saved for future game sessions.
Where to get your correct scaling values? I'd suggest that you run your own SimulationCraft, if you really can't, you will probably be able to find them on some failjerks webside.
  • Why should I upgrade from 3.0.2 to 3.0.3?
    - Added support to Tier10 bonuses.
    - Added the ability to see the values of offspec items without the need of actually having to swap specs on the fly.
    - Readded Shifting Dreadstone to the default socket fillers tab.
    - Fixed Mage Tier9 pre-set scaling values.
    - Fixed ruRU locale.
    - All frames are now closable with the ESC key.
    - The list of supported 3.3 trinkets is as follows:
    1. Althor's Abacus from Gunship Armory (25 men normal)
    2. Althor's Abacus Heroic from Gunship Armory (25 men heroic)
    3. Deathbringer's Will from Deathbringer Saurfang (25 men normal)
    4. Deathbringer's Will Heroic from Deathbringer Saurfang (25 men heroic)
    5. Dislodged Foreign Object from Rotface (25 men normal)
    6. Dislodged Foreign Object Heroic from Rotface (25 men heroic)
    7. Ephemeral Snowflake from Marwyn (5 men heroic)
    8. Herkuml War Token from Emblem of Frost Quartermaster
    9. Maghia's Misguided Quill from Emblem of Frost Quartermaster
    10. Muradin's Spyglass from Gunship Armory (10 men normal)
    11. Muradin's Spyglass Heroic from Gunship Armory (10 men heroic)
    12. Needle-Encrusted Scorpion from Devourer of Souls (5 men heroic)
    13. Nevermelting Ice Crystal from Nevermelting Ice Crystal (5 men heroic)
    14. Purified Lunar Dust from Emblem of Frost Quartermaster
    15. Sliver of Pure Ice from Lord Marrowgar (10 men normal)
    16. Sliver of Pure Ice Heroic from Lord Marrowgar (10 men heroic)
    17. Whispering Fanged Skull from Lady Deathwisper (10 men normal)
    18. Whispering Fanged Skull Heroic from Lady Deathwisper (10 men heroic)
  • What other commands are there?
Quite a few. You can access the complete list of available options by typing /rt in game. In here, I'll only spend a couple words on the following:
/rt sv -> Opens up the scaling values input frame.
/rt hc -> Opens up the frame with useful functionalities like the hit cap, the average casting time, the auto filling gems, turn on/off the WoWEquip support etc.
/rt og -> Opens up the Gem Optimizer frame.
/rt ogear -> Opens up the Gear Optimizer frame.
/rt pv -> Opens up the frame containing pre-set values for different specs and gear levels.
/rt import (...) -> Imports the scaling values using the string returned by SimulationCraft.
  • What assumptions does the mod make?
    - If the item diplayed in your tooltip has an empty socket slot, and you haven't picked up a default filling gem for that socket colour, the mod assumes that it is filled with a 19 spellpower fictitious gem. This gem will not count toward activating the socketbonus.
    - The hit cap is only taken into account when computing the "total gear dps = n" line, it is not taken into account when computing the "dps gain = n", as the scope of this latter line is local to the two compared items only.
    - Enchantments and prismatic sockets are ignored and in no way contribute to the xPS gains.
    - Trinkets like Illustration of the Dragon Soul are modeled as static gains. Keeping the stacks up is generally possible, and most classes can even stack the charges up before pulling.
    - The tooltip will read "DPS gain" if you have 81 or more hit rating, otherwise it will read "HPS gain". This is just the tooltip wording, so if you are leveling up a dk and have less than 80 hit rating, don't be scared, you are still seeing dps values.
    - The Avg Casting Time field in /rt hc is TIMEPERIOD (say 60 seconds) / NUMBER OF CASTS (that can proc trinkets).
    - Clicking a pre-set value button will only save scaling values, you will still have to configure the /rt hc frame for accurate values.
    - There are always two available slash commands for RhadaTip. One is /RhadaTip, the other is either /rt or /rtip, based on whether you have RaidTracker loaded or not.
  • What doesn't work in 3.0.3?
The addon is incompatible with the Black Temple necklace. If you have any issue with anything that isn't the Black Temple necklace, please report it here and I'll come back at you as soon as possible. Remember that if you aren't playing on an enUS client locale you must specify it when reporting the issue.
  • Which classes does it support?
It was developed with warlocks in mind, but it should work out fine for every dps and healing class.
  • What is the difference between this mod and RatingBuster?
This mod has xPS in its mind. RatingBuster is used to convert ratings into percentages, and to obtain a breakdown of the sum of all the stats on the tooltipped item. In no way it delivers actual xPS informations. Thus, none of the key features of RhadaTip listed in these f.a.q. is present in RatingBuster.
  • What is the difference between this mod and Pawn?
Taken from the answers to the question "What does RhadaTip do" at the beginning of this f.a.q., the following RhadaTip features aren't found (or are radically different) in Pawn:
    • 1.2 (Trinkets)
    • 2 (Full gear evaluation...)
    • 2.1 (... leading to always accurate comparisons)
    • 2.2 (Tier set bonuses and hit/expertise cap)
    • 3 (the 1-click gear optimizer)
    • 4, 4.1 and 4.2 (the ability to go n items ahead of your current gear, to compare not just two items but n items, etc)
    • 4.3 (compare your gear to that of other playes)
    • 5 (support to dual specs)
    • 6, 6.1 and 6.2 (the gem optimizer)
    • 7, 7.1 (pre-set scaling values and auto-loading of the best scaling value template on login)
  • What is coming up next?
    - More 3.3 trinkets.
    - Tier10 pre set scales.
    - Remaining localizations ?
  • How can I contribute?
    - Help me with pre-saved scaling values, especially for the healing classes/specs.
    - Test the localizations.
    - Help me with a couple trinket models.
  • Where did my question go?
Since many are asking the same questions over and over, not necessarely related to rhadatip (and therefore out of context in this main page, looking at you "how do I compute tier bonus values?"), I'll use the user questions as a compendium to this page, and therefore clean the unneeded posts to increase their quality.
  • Compatibility issues.
There are no known compatibility issues at the moment.

Is there a way to cancel the Gear Optimizer other then Alt F4? If not could we get a button or some other way to stop computing optimal gear.

My calculations tend to take a really long time and I'm often que'd up for a raid or instance. I'd like the ability to stop it in case I need to.

  • At the moment there isn't one. I will see what I can do about halting the coroutine which computes it without leaving it in a inconsistent state. Chances are though that you have a lot of unneeded items which you should think of removing from the computation first, either using the ilvl filter or placing them temporarely in the bank while waiting for the dungeon to start.

I like to have two slightly different gear sets saved to use the best combination based on buffs in a 25 man vs a 10 man so I usually run a couple of sims and get two different sets of scaling values to put in and run the gear optimizer so I can min/max gear choices a little based on raid makeup. When I was doing this today I entered in scaling values, saved them, ran the optimizer, and then saved the gear set for my 10 mans. Then I tried to do the same for the next set of scaling values and the optimizer went from two thousand something possibilites to over 400,000 possibilites making it impossible to run. How can the number of possibilities change if the only differences from befor are the scaling values and which pieces of gear are equipped? I added nothng new to my bags.

  • The short answer is that this behavior is indeed correct.

The long answer is that before computing every possible gear combination, a first filter is applied. An item's self dps is either a static value(items without hit/expertise), an upper bound value (items with hit/expertise), or a lower bound value(tier items). In other words, suppose that you have 2 headpieces, 1 with hit rating, I'll call it Head-1, and one without it, Head-2. Also imagine that you are currently using Spec-1 scales. Under these conditions, you have that Head-1 self dps value is 430, and Head-2 self dps value is 400. RhadaTip reckons that Head-1's self value is higher, but it can't know for sure that it will be the best headpiece to use. Why? Because those 430 dps are an upper bound value, only actually achieved under the circumstance where you can make use of all the hit rating on Head-1. It therefore has to test every possible gear mix with both Head-1 and Head-2.
Now suppose that swapping weights, and possibly also hit cap, tier bonuses etc, Head-1 is worth 450 dps, and Head-2 is worth 455. Will RhadaTip test all possible gear combinations taking into account both the helmets? The answer is obviously no, because Head-2 doesn't have hit/expertise, and its value is therefore not an upper bound, but an actual, static one. Under every circumstance, Head-2 is superior to Head-1 now, and Head-1 is simply ignored. Expand this to all item slots, and remember that the combinations grow exponentially, and you have your 400k. You simply have to remove some items from your bags or filter the lowest itemlevels.

I just realized that when I've been inputting numbers for scaling values from what I get in simcraft, I'm using simcraft's "normalized" numbers, not the "scale factors." Will this make a difference in rhadatip?

Does rhadatip use the scaling value numbers as absolute numbers (i.e. 1 for spell power means 1dps), or as relative numbers (i.e. 1 spell power and 0.5 haste means spell power is twice as good as haste)? Thanks!

  • Semantically, yes, but not practically. The semantic value of an item won't be his actual dps contribution anymore, your total gear value will change (but we know that its actual value is irrelevant, as it should not be used as a comparison value for Recount etc), but in the end the comparisons between items will still be accurate.

    I'd like to make a suggestion/wish list

    1. Would it be possible to give us the ability to ignore certain items? In our bags. This would also help to speed up optimization as it would not have to search everything. I keep multiple outfits in by bags usually for different scenarios like pvp so this would be awsome.

    2. Could we get the choice to have a list displayed of otimal gear pop up instead of the items being put on? I would much rather see a list then have everything loaded up. If this list could also include gems and enchant optimizations it would be the greatest thing since slice bread. I know that's alot to ask for probably but that I think would take this addon to the next level.

Thanks again for a great addon and hard work.

  • Interesting ideas, I'll have to give them some thoughts. Primary ones are:

    1. Possibly with an input box where you type in the item ids of the items you want to ignore. Would this suffice?

    2. A list is already displayed together with the equipping of the best combo, in the unfortunate case that the best combo can't be equipped, say due to exceeding the jc only gem cap on the selected items. Whether this should be the only thing that it does by default, I don't necessarely agree with. If you have 1 role and no pvp gear, you will likely have no sets configured in the gear manager, and not care about the equipping. On the other hand, if you have pvp and offspec sets, you will likely make heavy use of the equipment manager so it won't be a big issue if it swaps your gear around. Gem and enchants are likely not going to happen. Enchants won't because the mod doesn't support them, due to the design decision to ignore them, as any item of the same slot would have the same enchant, and therefore it won't change the comparison between the two. Gems are supported, but the gear optimizer is already borderline too slow (not my fault that WoW isn't as fast as an external C software :)), even adding a non exaustive gem optimization to each item would break it. Consider that each item has at most 27 different ways to be gemmed, excluding hit and expertise gems. Doing that during the gear optimization is simply too much to ask to WoW. The complexity will of course grow even more if every time an item is evaluated, I can't just focus on my objective function of maximing that item's value, but I'd have to backtrack the previous gem choises, for example due to metagem activation concerns.

Being able to ignore by item id would do.

  • When you select gems in the gem input tab (/rt hc), you are telling the mod to use those gems when you open a tooltip of an item with empty sockets. The gems selected here, minus the metagem in a sense, are irrelevant to the gem optimizer. The 3 gems on the gem-optimizer left handside frame aren't random, they are the best 3 gems for you (excluding any gem with hit/expertise, which is only taken into account if you will run an exaustive optimization). Let's make an example:

    in /rt hc I select
    red -> 23 spellpower
    yellow -> 12 spellpower+10 crit
    blue -> 12 spellpower+10 spirit

If I open the gem optimizing frame I will see on the left
    red -> 23 spellpower
    yellow -> 12 spellpower+10 haste
    blue -> 12 spellpower+10 spirit

Why did it change the yellow one? Because the one I chose and saved in /rt hc is not the highest dps yellow gem, it computes that according to my scaling values there is a better yellow gem, and therefore will use that one when computing the best gemming for any item, rather than what you selected in /rt hc.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cant see the itemid dps thingy". But in the example above, where I selected 12sp+10 crit in /rt hc, and it picks 12sp+10 haste in the gem optimizer, imagine that I check on atlasloot an item with a unsocketed yellow gem. The mousehovering of the item in atlasloot will show the item value using 12sp+10 crit. You can then run the optimizer using the item id, and the optimizer will show you the value using the 12sp+10 haste gem. If your combination of gems in /rt hc leads to x dps when mousehovering an item in Atlasloot, and the gem optimizer passing the same item's id returns Y dps using the different gems, and Y<X, you have found a bug, therefore I'll need a screenshot of your scales, item id etc :)

I'll check the Balanced gem, if it has stamina I might have removed it and will re-add it in the next update.

Also, I notice that as far as I can see in your descriptions, the 'gem optimizer' doesn't take into account all of your gear when it tells you what gems to put into a particular item. Is this right?

    Reply Report Permalink
  • This is how it works.
By default the gem optimizer ignores gems that provide hit and expertise, as those stats have caps.
In this case, it will tell you how to gem the item in the best possible way, using the best gems for you that do not provide hit or expertise. If you are talking about this "normal" optimization, it is correct that it ignores the rest of your gear, ad the value of the item gemmed with non-hit and non-expertise gems is independent of the rest of your gear.

Example. My best non-hit, non-expertise gems are +23 sp, +12sp+10haste, +12sp+10 spi. The default optimizer will test all possible combinations of those and determine which combo is optimal for any given item.

Suppose though that I'm not hit capped. Hit is my best stat, therefore hit gems might (depends on many things) be more convenient than the 3 gems above. In this case I can check the Exaustive Optimization checkbox and fire the gem optimization on any given item. In this case, the rest of your gear MUST be considered, as how to gem strictly depends on the hit cap and the amount of hit on your currently equipped gear.

This is the detailed description. Cut short:
    - The "normal" gem optimizer ignores hit/expertise gems, and therefore doesn't care about the rest of your items.
    - The "exaustive" gem optimizer considers all existing gems, and therefore must consider your whole gear set.

The latter is obviously slower, so if you are hit/expertise capped, you should not use the exaustive optimization.

Well I see, however that's not happening. On my character sheet I am not hit nor expertise capped.
Hit is my highest scaled stat before cap, I have set hit and expertise caps, and the exhaustive search is selected. But the gem optimizer still ignores hit and/or expertise and simply tells me to gem strength everywhere, except yellow slots which it tells me to gem with haste/stam, which is completely inaccurate, and not even how the stat weights are set up (haste is mostly ignored according to the stat weights I put in).

Also, when doing the exhaustive check, as you have said it must check all your gear. Shouldn't the addon be able to take into account metagem requirements? I am not trying to work you to death here, but without taking into account all factors, the gem optimization fails utterly as a feature.

Are you talking about the left handside gems or the right handside ones? The left handside gems never change, only the right handside ones do, once you click the Optimize button. Not sure what your misconfiguration issue might be, but if you check my shoulder item (Rhadamanthys - Shadowsong Europe) you will see a +20 hit gem in its yellow socket, which sends me at 9.95% hit out of a 10% hit cap, so the exaustive optimization indeed worked.

"Also, when doing the exhaustive check, as you have said it must check all your gear. Shouldn't the addon be able to take into account metagem requirements? I am not trying to work you to death here, but without taking into account all factors, the gem optimization fails utterly as a feature."

Checking all your gear doesn't mean that it will return how to gem every single item of your gear(in which case it would be mandatory to add some kind of metagem check), just that it checks how much hit and expertise you have on your gear to be able to include hit/exp gems to the computation. The scope is still how to gem the item of interest, and just that one, in this it isn't any different than the normal non exaustive optimization (ie, they both require you to think for a second if that gemming would break the metagem). Metagems can't be handled. There is no way to optimize those, as scaling values aren't enough to compute their value. WoW provides no API to get what a metagem requirement is, etc etc. All in all:

1- The optimizer helped me to find out that for my current leggings matching 1 red 1 yellow 1 blue socket + the item's socket bonus is worth it over gemming 3x red.

2- The optimizer told me to gem 2x red and ignore the socket bonus on other occasions, like when I had T8 leggings.

3- The exaustive gem optimization correctly told me to get +20 hit in my shoulders.

The only things it can't do, mostly due to the lack of proper api are:

1- understand that if you gem an item like it tells you, you will break the metagem.

2- understand that you are a Jewelcrafter, and you can equip 1 more Dragon Eye gem.

That is far from useless, check how many questions on wow forums there are everyday about gemmings, or the gemmings of high level players in high profile guilds. All those questions on forums can be answered with the addon(and a slight neuronal activity from the player).

If I run with the ogear combination, and it says 3.2 million combinations, do I give up and say that's too much for it to calculate? I don't see any type of progress bar or status text telling me how close it is to finishing...

Any thoughts on this topic? I looked in the questions above, but didn't see anything on this topic.

    Thanks.

  • They are definitely way too many. Are you using the itemlevel filter? With every single piece of ilvl 200 gear not taken out of my bags, which includes items like monkey trinket sphere etc, I can only generate as many as 15k combinations, which never take more than 2-3 minutes to compute. If you are already filtering items with an ilvl lower than 200 with the gear optimizer, and yet get 3.2 million combinations, I'm afraid that you have to swap some stuff out of the bags and park it in your bank, pvp/offspec sets to begin with.
