  • About Quiet that horse!
  •

The shriek of the Death Knight Charger being summoned was novel and interesting for a while, but it quickly grew incredibly grating. This tiny modification changes the spell noise to a more subdued, but still atmospheric, roll of muted thunder.

HOW TO INSTALL

1) Unzip the downloaded file, and extract the "Spells" folder.

2) Open your World of Warcraft/Data/Sound folder (just make a folder called Sound in there if there isn't one) and just drag the "Spells" folder over.

That's all you need to do.

NOTE: if you ALREADY have a 'Spells' folder, just drag the WAV into that.

I don't normally post on Curse but when i noticed that people are having problems with the directory for this addon I had to post. Because I fixed a similar error for my friend.

The problem is that there is two locations for World of Warcraft
(Depending on your computer (But it's mainly a vista problem))

    C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data
Is the normal pathway but is not always the case, to make sure your pathway is correct.

    1. Right click on the shortcut you normally use to Launch World of Warcraft\
    2. Select Properties
    3. Look at the Target field(text box) is it "
    C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data"?

if its not you might have put the sound file in the wrong location. Make sure you put the file in the location that is listed in the shortcut's properties.

    Some example directories.
    C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Data
    D:\Games\World of Warcraft\Data

  • I'm sorry some people seem to have troubles with this, but as seen in other posts, this does work for both XP and Vista. The two-part instructions to install it are about as simple as they can be made, and I don't think I could rephrase them to make them any clearer. Sorry guys and gals.

  • please help!!! I have vista, followed the instuctions exactly, and nothing. Just that stupid screeching...I can't take it anymore!!! I don't even play with my DK as much because of the dumb sound my mount makes and I don'tlike to mute the game. whoa is me...:-P

Running on Vista32 and followed the instructions above and it works great. Thanks. :)

  • Does this work the same way with Vista? I've followed the directions several times and all I end up with is that stupid horse still screaming at me. I didn't have a sound folder, so I made one and dropped the spell folder in it. Still nothing. I've made it a point to mute wow so I don't have to hear it.

Finally got it to work and I have Vista. I didn't have the "Sound" folder so I created one as instructed. My sound file is located at C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Data\Sound\Spells\DeathKnight_SummonWarHorse_Impact_Base.wav

Depending on how you installed WoW, key thing is finding that Data folder.
You can pretty much use any wave file as long as you use the file name DeathKnight_SummonWarHorse_Impact_Base.wav

I played with it a bit and dowloanded the Gladiator wave file "At my signal, unleash hell." Now it plays that when summoning my horse. Kinda cool... =)

  • In Warcraft/Data/Sound/Spells you should have the sound called DeathKnight_SummonWarHorse_Impact_Base.wav
You are sure you haven't made a new directory below that? ie extracted it wrong.

I really want to change the sound for mine, but it didn't work for me either. I followed the directions completely, (Warcraft/Data/Sound/Spells). Any ideas?

Thank you. Two weeks after Lich King was released, I took my DK over to Brill and bought her a skeletal horse because I couldn't stand listening to that hideous shriek anymore every-freakin'-time she mounted. My girl can ride her deathcharger again. Thank you.

Now, can you do something about that completely annoying train noise? I'd pay to get rid of that.

Hey, thanks for the mod. How did you do this? Can you change the sound of all spells you want? I tried to change the sound of other spells, but it didn't work. Does it have to be .wav?

  • I can't agree more about the shriek of the DK horse. I loved it the first hundred times, after that it really got on my nerves. Your sound is much more enjoyable. Thank you for the time you've put into this.

I dont have trouble installing this addon. I´m looking to get the original file for something else but couldnt find it yet.
Btw, I dont have a sound folder in the date folder. Unless I plan to use this addon which I wont because I like the original file.

My bad Zasz I misunderstood your comment, no offense intended and I hope none was taken.

I'm afraid I can't help with extracting the original sound file though.
