What is Switchboard?

Switchboard adds various sounds to the game that are triggered based on certain events. Most of these sounds were custom created to fit the game.

Do I have to hear all of them?

Nope. Switchboard allows you to configure which sounds you want to hear.

Can I use my own sounds?

Yep! You can even use existing WoW sounds if you know the names.

Why aren't any sounds included?

To reduce the filesize, sounds will no longer be included with Switchboard. To get the default sounds, download Switchboard 2.2.

Which events does Switchboard support?

Currently, the following events are supported, but new events will be added as often as possible.

Receive a whisper/tell
Perform a melee crit
Perform a spell crit
Receive experience
Receive honor
Skill-up in a skill or profession
Sell something in the auction house
Begin camping
Enter combat
Leave combat
Have 25% or lower health while in combat
Win a battle while health is 25% or lower
Die
Use a mount
Use a flight path
Login or Reload UI
Friend Logs On
Friend Logs Off

How do I change the sounds?

You can change any sound from the Switchboard UI. To open the UI, you can use /switchboard, /switchb or /sbd. To use your own WAV/MP3 sounds, you'll need to put them inside the Switchboard\Sound folder.

Switchboard will definitely enhance your gameplay!

  • Interact with hundreds of thousands of other gamers on an open social network.
  • Post your stories, news, images, videos, and other content to share.
  • Create a network with your fellow gamers or join an existing one.
  • Gain reputation for everything you do.
  • Really cool add-on, though I think you should have kept the sounds on there, maybe even add some new ones to choose from, since I have a hard time finding such nice sounds like the one you've chosen. The low health one just adds that intensity for me in pvp, so awesome job!

Thanks linearmode, but please remember that the default sounds you can always get by downloading Switchboard 2.2. Also, when you update Switchboard, you should be extracting the contents of the updated ZIP file into the Switchboard directory, NOT deleting and replacing it. This will ensure that your sounds are preserved, regardless of whether they be default or custom.

@beesa68: Sounds will no longer be included with Switchboard in order to reduce filesize, and since the sounds will not change frequently. You should not lose your Sound folder when updating, but you can always download Switchboard v2.2 to get the default sounds.

  • What is the song you use for the mount? I can't seem to figure it out.

  • Is there any chance of having the ability to fire a sound off when a friend comes online??

Sam, you probably have file extensions turned off in Windows, but you will need to type the full path of the file. This means you should be typing "ff10_Battle_Theme.wav" or "ff10_Battle_Theme.mp3", depending on the type of file it is. I will make Switchboard 2.3 auto-detect the filetype, but it's a little while off yet, as I just started working on these projects again. Hope this helps.

  • I downloaded like 3 final fantasy music clips for this add on, i then put them in the sound. When i went ingame to change the "enter Battle" one it wouldn't play. The file is called ff10_Battle_Theme in the sound folder, am i supposed to change the name to something else when putting it in-game?

Switchboard 2.2 will be available shortly. Flight Path sounds will now work as intended, and I've also fixed a few issues that might turn off default background music in specific cases.

Now that Switchboard is fully customizable, starting with release 2.3, sound files will no longer be included with each release, but will be available for download seperately.

If you'd like any events added to Switchboard, please leave a comment!

  • Is there a way to have a song play when in combat but Stop when out of combat?

This has been implemented into 2.3. No specific release date yet, as I need to replace the dropdown menu with a custom control to handle many more events.

Please Note: I just realized that the "Flight Path" event does not work correctly. This will be fixed in 2.2, which will be available within the next day or two.

@tubeyes: The reason low health music is coming out of the Music channel is because it is looped. Switchboard 2.0 will only loop MP3s, so you can prevent this by using a WAV or other audio extension rather than an MP3. Release 2.0 (actually 2.1) should be available within minutes.

@BlueArcane: Thank you for the nice catch. This has been fixed in Switchboard 2.1, which should be available for download not long after this comment is posted.

@ALL: Switchboard 2.1 is here! You may now set your own sounds for the events that Switchboard supports!

  • I set the mount music to off with the slash command, but it still stops the music when I dismount. Would you be able to stop this from happening so that the music that was already playing continues to do so?

Oh I understand why its not working, its coming out of the music channel and not the sound effects channel. How can I change all sounds to come out of the sound effects channel? I always mute in game music, but the health warning is essential. I changed out the Low_Health with a "danger will robinson" mp3 for maximum awesomes.

Is it just me or is the "25% or lower health while in combat" not working?
