SpellTips is an addon that will modify your tooltips to show approximately how much damage or healing a spell will really do with Spell Power gear equipped. All tooltips are affected now even pets (only water elemental's currently) and the trainer window are supported so you must disable it from the UI screen to see base values anywhere. It is simplistic by design and coded to be very efficient.

Plans:
- Find appropriate modifiers for the spells currently supported. - ongoing effort
- Clean up code - ongoing effort
- Translation - need people to report errors and try to fix them
- Hope for Blizzard to realize what a mistake it is for them to not be doing this in the default UI and then get it done themselves so that the values will be truly accurate. - expected 9 months after I quit the game ;p

Known Bugs:
- Several spells have slightly inaccurate values due to lack of information, please test and give feedback.
- Localization is up to users to help fix, if you notice something not working then look in the locale file for your language and fix the patterns to match the text for the spell correctly. If you really can't figure it out then post your language and classes of your characters and I'll update them.
- Glyphs are not supported and I have no plans to support them because although some glyphs are very straight forward in the effect they give, others drastically change spells and would be a nightmare to accommodate so I'm discriminating against them all.

    Throughout beta they were changing coefficients on a weekly basis, much too often to devote any time whatsoever towards tracking. I'm still not confident that they have any semblance of balance going into release but I'll start nailing down the coefficients that I can. The only 60+ casters that I have are a priest, mage, and (mostly only prot gear) paladin so I'll need a lot of feedback.

    Sounds like Hurricane only gets 10% every second for a total of 100% which is a bit low for the new aoe rules. It'd be good if a level 70 druid with higher +dmg (700-800 should be easy with deep balance spec) could check the accuracy to tell if 0.1 is precise or if it's something that's just close to it.

    Unbuffed I have a total of +345 spell damage, 265 from equipped items and 80 from Lunar Guidance 3/3 (+dmg equal to 25% of your int).

    My spell book states "135 to 136 damage every 1 sec", my action bar tooltip states "308 to 309 damage every 1 sec" and my actual damage is 172 to 173.

    They're a couple of functions that are in wow 2.0 but were never officially announced. Their purpose is pretty self-explanatory though.

    You could use the old 0.5ish version but curse doesn't show them in the new design so you'll have to get it over at http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=2752 but then copy the new spelltips.en.lua file and edit it so it'll be easier to convert when 2.0 does come out in China.

    If you like me to ,I could do some translation into Simplified Chinese. Since in China, BC hasn't come. And I've found two "global" functions ( GetSpellBonusHealing() and GetSpellBonusDamage() )run error in my client. I don't find them in the list of APIs in wowwiki. Could you tell me how to fix this problem or it can't work until the BC comes?

    Hellfire and Drain Life are wrong. Hellfire's coeffient over the entire duration is 2.143 This means Hellfire gains 0.14287 spell damage per tick to the enemy and 0.095 per tick to yourself. I have thoroughly tested this with 300, 500, and 800 spell power at level 70. Bonus damage from soul link (1.05) and demonic tactics (1.05) is then applied to obtain the final damage in my case.

    By the way I believe the AoE nerf never went live. I have AoE'd massive groups multiple times.

    Also with Drain Life, it needs to be 5/7/5 not 5/7 since the spell takes place over 5 ticks of damage.

    Tooltips seem 100% perfect with these changes. I'll keep testing.

    This addon is in a state I consider feature complete. There's still a few paladin spells that I need to calculate and some minor fixes to other spells but all work from here out is purely maintenance. It could be somewhat easily adopted to work with melee abilities but afaik there are no standard rules for melee abilities so it would have to be done on a case by case basis. I have a job now and between working, raiding, and trying to get some sleep, there isn't any time to spend coding something that I can't even test myself.

    Next release will be shortly after 2.2 is released to update the toc and to support pally spells like the reworked seal of vengeance.

    According to http://druid.wikispaces.com/Druid_Game_Mechanics , Rip takes around 24% of your Melee Attack power at 5 combo points and adds it to the final damage (4% per tick). The modifier for using Rip at lower amount of Combo Points is unknown. Pounce takes around 18% of your AP and adds it to the final damage (3% per tick).


    I would be willing to test values for you if you'd be interested in coding up the results. I ask because it's very bothersome having to calculate out my Rip's damage, since the default UI is so obviously wrong.

  • Hey, thanks for the mod, it helps a ton.

    I think the coef values for Rank 1 spells, Fireball and Frostbolt are significantly off. Rank 1 Fireball would show up as 515-535 ish dmg with ~804 +fire dmg equipped, and frost bolt had similar numbers.

    Rank 1 Fireball was doing around 100 dmg.

    Sorry for the vague numbers.
