  • About PlayRate
  •

What's the most frustrating experience you've had playing World of Warcraft? Did it involve other players not behaving as they should?

With PlayRate you can give people you have played with in a group or raid a rating. The cool part is that your ratings are transmitted to other users of PlayRate and you receive their ratings as well. PlayRate will build a database of ratings it receives while you are online and you can synchronize the database at www.playrate.net to get ratings that were given while you were offline. This enables you to check out what a player's average rating is before deciding to invite him to a group. If a lot of people install this mod the idea is that people will refrain from behaving badly because they know their actions will not go unnoticed.

Benefits of Registration

  • Interact with hundreds of thousands of other gamers on an open social network.
  • Post your stories, news, images, videos, and other content to share.
  • Create a network with your fellow gamers or join an existing one.
  • Gain reputation for everything you do.
  • This is actually a very interesting idea, although not many people seem to use it - at least on Silvermoon-EU.

I have the following suggestion to add for further development. In order to avoid people trolling on someone's reputation, you would be able to set "favourites" (people or whole guilds) whose Ranking would matter more than other people.

For example, I'm looking at X's ratings; 10 random people rate him way below average; There are 5 more people from a "trusted" guild I know, rating him above average. This would give the 5 persons' rank a highest 'weight' on my list, therefore bringing the X person to a good standing.

I realise this might be complicated to develop, since many people tend to guild-hop and the addon would have to keep up with all the guilds' changes. Still, i think it might be worth a try.

Thanks for a good job on PlayRate, and may you keep it up. :-)

im going to use this mod so i can remember other players but it would be nice to see this gain some popularity. i can see this being very useful on High to Full population servers.

Assuming this addon even still works, it would be great if you could also rate people of the opposite faction, specifically for people on pvp servers who get ganked a lot.

Please forget about last post (or delete it) I had the wrong mod page up because of the funny stuff curse did to me while registering. That comment had nothing to do with this mod, and as a matter of fact this mod works great lol | | | V

Hello. I seem to have a bit of a problem. I have this installed on 2 computers, with 2 accounts on at the same time. There seems to be NO sharing, at least with the tooltips, at all. I have tried party, raid, and guild with this other toon and the 2 simply do not, over any length of time, share this info. Oddly, tho, if I go into the lua savedvariable file I DO see the list of ratings by the OTHER toon. I see the toons name, then all the ppl on the list, and the ratings. But in game it does not show up in tooltip nor in list of rated ppl. I have tried another ratings mod but I think this one is better because of the tooltip use. Please throw any ideas at me :)

  • Reputation is stored characterwise, but I intend to add account wide reputation to www.playrate.net at some point.

Looks quite interesting, I'm going to give it a go :). Btw, does it store reputation characterwise or accountwise?

    Really great idea :P

  • It stores the reputation info on your account, so you can access it from your different characters as long as they are on the same realm. Each character does have its own reputation, so players can have both a highly and a lowly rated character, there is no way for the add-on to tell that they are the same player in real life.

I don't think he meant faction reputation.

I think he meant to say the rating that a character would have, that would be stored in the addon's cache, and not server.

So, his question was, does your addon give a rating to an account, or to each individual character on that account?

I try this latest version ... I tried the 0.xx versions and the only problem:

It didnt work. I typed /playrate and it says invalid commands. :P Also I've tried to right click on chat and in group on my party members but didnt see the "rate" related commands in the pop-up...

Anyways I try this 1.0version and I check again...

Great idea - thought about writing something similar and found this one. ;)

What about extending your code? May I feel free as long as sending you the mods? There's quite a lot networking stuff I'm thinking about and also I'ld really like to see some more categories rated like

    - discipline - teamplay - mood (calm to choleric) - leadership - ...

would be great then if one could rate the priest played with to be disciplined 8 but not rated on leadership (he/she didn't lead - so who knows?). Perhaps even group-rating people (rate a 40 player raid and you're getting mad) which is weighted a bit less (e.g. half a single rate), ...

There is no way in WoW to get account-info, so if one player behaves badly on one toon it can't be made to affect the rating of all his other toons.. Kinda sad, but at the same time it prevents people from harrassing a person on all his toons (the US PvP-realm griefing-perm-ban case comes to mind)..

This is a sweet idea :)

Just hope it doesn't get exploited and cause good players a bad rep :P

  • I see no reason why it should not work with german clients, let me now if it causes any errors. It's in English but you are welcome to translate the language file if you feel up to it. Cheers :-)

  • Doesn't work for german clients, right?

  • Wow I have to say, this is probably the best idea for a mod I have seen. I'm pretty excited about this, I'm trying to get my friends/guildies to download now : p

  • I've considered adding more parameters to rate a player on (it started out with just 1 btw), but there's a trade off that it will start to feel like too much work to some players and they will stop using it. The usefulness of this mod greatly increases when more people use it. (So please promote it on your server :-)). You're welcome to play around with the code but realize that I'm reluctant to introduce changes that might fraction the userbase. Nobody wins if we have half the players on Playrate and half the players on an "improved" version.

ps. sorry for the late reply, I couldn't log on with all the patch traffic
