  • About Perl Classic Unit Frames
  •

If you like this mod, please vote for it!

What is Perl Classic?
Perl Classic Unit Frames are a complete rewrite of the original mods by Perl. They replace the default Player, Pet, Target, Target of Target, Party, and Party Pet frames and add dedicated frames for many other units (Focus, Focus Target, Party Target, Target of Target of Target). It has been a high priority to maintain the look and feel or the original Perl mods while expanding functionality. The mod has been recoded for performance and is built around the Blizzard UI usage of events.

Q&A
-----
Q: I'm seeing double party buffs for some reason, what gives?
A: 99% of the time this is caused by CT_PartyBuffs. Simply remove the mod and you will return to having one set of party buffs.

Q: I am having massive dead spots for clicking on some of the unit frames, what's wrong?
A: This can be caused by a number of mods, but the most common seems to be CT_MovableParty. Please remove this mod as Perl can be moved without the use of this mod.

Q: The default party frames are showing up with red lightning bolts. What's going on?
A: As of version 1.503 of CT_RaidAssist this should no longer be caused by CTRA. The settings for this are now located in the WoW settings under Interface Options -> Basic -> Raid -> Hide Party Interface.

Q: Do you support ArcaneBar?
A: Yes, it is included in your download of Perl Classic.

Q: Will you be adding any features to Perl_PlayerBuff?
A: No, my coding for this mod goes as far as making sure it 'works.' If anyone would like to expand upon it, feel free to do so.

Q: Where are the raid frames?
A: As of 2.0 I no longer code raid frames for Perl Classic. Luckily, X-Perl's raid frames work great alongside Perl Classic. X-Perl's raid frames (and the unit frames themselves) can be found here: http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/3416/

Q: The scaling is all messed up! What do i do?
A: I recommend setting the scale to that of the UI if you are having issues. Open the options menu via "/perl" or the Black Pearl icon on the minimap and set the scale accordingly under the "All" tab.

Q: I am having an issue not listed in this FAQ, what can I do?
A: First, update *every* mod. I do not support ancient outdated and unmaintained mods. If you have double checked that everything is up to date, post on any of the Perl Classic mod pages and I'll be glad to help you narrow down the issue or give suggestions to help find a solution.

Q: Can you add this feature?
A: I'm sure it's possible, but the primary purpose of this mod is to 'modernize' the original Perl mod so that it doesn't slow your game down.

After many hours of troubleshooting i have it figured. This addon and GFW_Feedomatic do not play nice together. http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info4160.html
With Feedomatic you are able to mouse over the happiness icon on the pet portrait see a tip to click to feed it a preconfigured food OR right click to have other opitons.
    Perl somehow removes this.
Can this be fixed?, I am also posting on wowinterface in hopes of a fix.
    Thanks

I believe a few years back I looked into adding support for this mod. I don't remember why I didn't, but no doubt it was because it would have been trivial for the author of the mod to do it on their end rather than mine. After reading some of the posts on WoWI for that mod, it seems like just about every unit frame other than the default ones are not supported.

Known Blizzard bug. Has nothing to do with Perl. The same will happen with any unitframes you use. (Google for "taint focus dropdown".) You need to set your focus by some other means than the dropdown menu; I recommend using the builtin keybindings.

The #2 error looks unrelated to Perl altogether.

I get the first error occasionally in ICC25, when there are lots of events being processed. No other errors are reported. I've worked around it by adding

if (not startTime) or (not endTime) or (not text) then return end

after the call to UnitCastingInfo (around line 124). It's obviously not a "real" fix, but avoids needless errors if the data is simply not there to work with.

Does this happen when Perl is the only mod (besides your bug catcher) enabled? It looks like some other mod is conflicting with Perl.

    Hey global,

Ive been a long time user of perl classic. Though I haven't played WoW for the past.. year or so. I don't recall if there were any cooldown timers for debuffs on targets?

Under Target frames theres no options for "Show Cooldowns" was there ever?

I made the mistake of downloading the PerlX before remembering that I used the classic one. The only thing I enjoyed about PerlX was the cooldowns shown on the target frame.

    Let me know! Thanks

Use OmniCC and then you have to adjust in that mod the minimum scale size to display a cooldown I think. If that doesn't make sense let me know.

    Global,

The 3.3 LFG tool came with a small UI change to the default Bliz party frames. If a group is formed via the LFG tool, then the party portraits are marked with small icons indicating the assigned roles (tank, healer, DPS). With what seems like most of the playerbase now running a dual spec and signing up for multiple roles, these are really handy when the party first matches up.

I've added these icons and the supporting code to Perl_Party. Do you have a public email address or some other contact point where I can send a patch to you?

Global, why you do not play anymore? If its not too personal to ask..

Various reasons, but the main ones: no new raid content in wotlk at launch (naxx is not new, if people want to see old content, go back and do it, don't make it your only raid zone for as long as they did), 100% achievement focused raids, and ultimately, got sick of going to work 9 hours a day only to come home to an annoying raid leader who cared slightly too much about his phat lootz. I never cared for the hard mode fights back in AQ40, and they certainly don't do anything for me in wotlk. The only character progression at max level seems to be (like I previously said) achievements, and rep grinds (or I guess token grinds lately). I played it for a long time obviously, but it's just not my thing anymore, which is a shame since it's the only game that has an addon API worth a damn, but that in itself can also be bad based on how mods actually influenced raid design.

Hope you come back in the expansion man. I took a good long break myself with the exact same reason you have. Sold my account for $220, now a year later. Worst decision I've ever made.. Back into WoW, its still like no other MMo out there.

WoW itself has bored be since the middle of TBC. The only thing that kept me "playing" was the coding. Now that I'm married and have a full time job, coding for fun is just harder and harder. Maybe if I landed a dream job of high pay and low hours (lol) I'd come back and code a lot more, but I don't see that happening. If I get *really* bored or something, I might fix the last bug I know about, which is the preset positioning before manually moving the frame first.

More customizing. And the short bars, numbers etc. doesn't work randomly on every frame.

Love this addon. nice and simple. But please! and add more textures!
