  • About MinimalUI
  •

Future enhancements to MinimalUI will appear as part of the new WoW++ project.

Summary

Are you tired of looking at all the frilly menu bar clutter, yet? MinimalUI auto-hides some infrequently used parts of the basic interface to uncover more of the 3D viewport and reduce overall clutter. These parts reappear when you mouse over them.

Unlike other mods that allow you to hide, move or replace parts of the interface to your liking, MinimalUI does not require you to learn slash commands, remember window names, adjust to a new interface layout, or really to think at all. Just mouse over what you want to use, and when you're done, MinimalUI will move it out of your way again. See screenshots for examples of auto-hidden interface. Note that very important UI elements which are frequently needed are never hidden, including character status, the minimap, and action bar buttons.

Instructions

To use, simply install and forget.

If you would like to 'lock' your interface in 'hidden' mode, type /minimalui. Use the same slash command again to restore standard (auto-hide) mode. While the interface is locked, mousing over will not reveal the hidden elements, so you will have to use keyboard shortcuts to activate menu options.

Compatibility

Although MinimalUI is compatible with all official clients, the slash commands and help text appear in English.

So this does/does not hide the xp bar? I hope it does, but I'm at work, so I can't play with it, yet.

EDIT: I tried it out and it appears to be working fine. I love this mod!

  • I'm aware of the problem concerning level 60 players who have installed the expansion. When I figure out how to detect whether or not a player has the expansion, it will be fixed straight away.

  • In one of the more recent patches, Blizzard made it so that addons cannot make the action bar buttons hidden. To make them less obtrusive, try using the /minimalui command to lock the interface in hidden mode, and try increasing your screen resolution and/or moving the interface size slider in your interface options menu.

  • Further to what Regolith wrote, would it be possible for the default blizzard action bars to be hidden until mouseover ( or a simple yes/no option added for those that would like it)?

That way i don't think it would then interfere with non combat actions.

  • If you enjoy this addon, take a few minutes to glance over my other addons. You might find something else you like!

  • My sincere apologies to all of you who downloaded the corrupt file. Curse has been to say the least, extremely unstable for the past week or so, and I was unaware of the problem until today, when I could finally check up on my addons. 1.7.1 works correctly for the new patch (2.0.1), and is a valid .zip file.

Looking forward to this being updated. Thanks!

  • Yep, I'll get an update up ASAP - I have four other addons to update as well. O.o

  • Regolith : Originally, my plan was in fact to hide the bar entirely, as you have suggested, when there is no target. I soon realized, however, that there are many many abilities that do not require a target, and players would not be able to see their quick bar numbers for those abilities when they needed them. Some examples include shapeshifting, stance changes, stealth, area of effect skills, self-only buffs and conjuration abilities. I hope you understand!  :)

I do see, thank you. As a hunter, I don't do much without a target... Is there a plan to keep this mod updated through the patch 2.0 and BC expansion?

This mod is excellent and I recommend it to everyone that wants a cleaner screen without messing around with more complicated codes. I would love to see the whole action bar (including the additional ones Blizz allows) to hide when there is no target. When you select a target, the action bars that are always visible now come up. This would, in my most humble opinion make it the perfect mod.

  • I've updated the description to include exactly what it does currently. However, it does not do anything that is not shown in the screenshots provided. A quick look over those should tell you what to expect.  :) It's currently not configurable by design, because I want it to be a very simple addon. An addon that aims to simplify the interface would be sabotaging itself if it complicated matters by including special menus or slash commands. However I have been very careful not to auto-hide anything that players need to glance over to, and all hidden interface elements promptly return to view when moused-over, making the addon just as useful to mouse-clickers as it is to hot-keyers.

It doesn't seem to be recognizing a level 60 player and properly hiding the experience bar when mousing over the UI and not mousing over the UI.

Also some suggestions: It should be possible to lock it as hidden, so that even if you mouse over the UI it does not show up. Also have a key that you can press to show and hide the UI.

  • Bort : Hey, thanks for the feedback! I have a level 60, but I didn't notice the problem you mentioned. I'll check again to see if I can reproduce and fix it. For now, I will create some slash commands for locking it hidden, and I'll look for a way to make toggling that feature more intuitive, like a drop-down menu, or something to that effect.

Please remove the border art from the bottom bar on mouse over.

  • I think this addon pretty much succeeds in its purpose. However, I am interested in continuing to improve it. If anyone has any suggestions that they think would further 'minimize' the basic interface, post them here and I'll consider putting them in!

Well, what does it do? What does it hide specifically? Can you configure what it hides / shows?
