  • About MikScrollingBattleText
  •

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:

  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class.
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

I dont really know what else to do. There's lots of sounds associated with SharedMedia but for some reason, my msbt isn't seeing them. I've tried installing a standalone SharedMedia, I've tried updating the libraries. Nothing seems to work. The thing is, before I made a clean install of my addons, the sounds I wanted to use were available via shared media. After the install, only core msbt files were available. I have no clue what the file names are that the library is calling on so I dont know how to call on it using the custom sounds. Any clue how to fix this? And is there any way to get it call from other sharedmedia addons like SharedMedia-Blizzard?

I know its probably a simple request but how do you move the position of the cooldown rdy bar. I want to move it closer to the middle of my screen but im not sure how. Any advice.

Go to Scroll Areas->Configure Scroll Areas. You can move the areas around as you like.

You can also create a new scroll area, move it where you want and then modify the cooldown event to be output in that new area if you only want to move cooldowns and none of the other static notifications.

  • So, I use msbt only for incoming heals and damage, and for outgoing I just use default blizzard combat text... But everytime I log back into wow, my default combat text is always off.. Is there an option in msbt to leave default outgoing on?

First, make sure you're using the latest version of MSBT. MSBT no longer modifies the default WoW damage/healing settings, so you'll need to enable it through game's Interface options (Escape->Interface->Combat Text, I believe).

If those settings aren't saving then you either have another mod that is disabling them or you are generally unable to save any settings which typically occurs on Vista. For that, I would point you to the stickied topic "How-To: Trouble-Shoot AddOns under Vista" on the official WoW UI & Macros forum (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?forumId=11114&sid=1)

Hi, this is a response to a post below, putting it here cos you may not see it otherwise, regarding messages going to 'random' places:

Let's say I'm configuring the outgoing notification area. I set animation style to Angled. I set direction to Right. Behaviour is Angled Upwards. Now all messages start at the bottom left corner of the notification area, and they move towards the top right. Except they don't all follow the same path. They all end up at the right edge, but at random heights. Some messages go all the way to the top right corner, some go to the right edge at halfway up, etc. This is what I mean by random places. I was expecting all messages to just scroll in the same path from bottom left corner to top right corner.

Look at the way the messages go if the animation style is set to Straight. I like the way they all flow the same way, but instead of going straight up, I would prefer them to go at a slight angle.

Ok, I understand what you're talking about. The behavior of the angled animation is either to "Grow Up" or "Grow Down" meaning each successive message will go to the next location above or below the previous one, respectively. This is done to prevent the text from always overlapping as would be the case of it always going to a single set location in the upper right corner.

You can enable WoW's built-in game damage in the game's Interface options accessible via the Escape key. I think it's under Escape->Interface->Combat Text.

  • I want to make a thing where it says "HOLY CRAP INNERVATE" whenever I get innervate. I've seen it in action before, but I don't know how to do it.

  • Please add a way to not merge melee hits. I like to see every hit and there's no way to unmerge melee (especially annoying since I use two weapons of the same speed).

Better yet just add an option not to merge anything ever.

I will probably add an option not to merge melee swings at some point since it's been requested a few times.

That said, I likely will not be adding an option to not merge anything. Merging is a huge part of MSBT's spam control philosophy and allowing it to be disabled goes against that.

  • Cool addon, I'm using it specifically to let me know when my WG and swiftmend CD's are up, since it flashes a big loud message instead of just doing something to my buttons, its insanely helpful.

That being said, the skill name of the spell coming off CD seems to always display in red (the %e Ready Now! message), I can alter the rest of the text, but not the color of the skill name.

Since Red is really my least favorite color, and I will be seeing this message alot, I was wondering if there was a way to change the color of the skillname too, and not just the extra text.

The only way to change that would be to modify the lua files. I have an option for that on my todo list, but I've just been busy with RL work and haven't had a chance to get to it.
