  • About MikScrollingBattleText
  •

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:

  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class.
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

    I have a silly question.
What change from 3.1 to 3.2 caused all heals to show up as crits?

The reason I ask is because I've been using an outdated mod to report player deaths. The mod reports healing and damage taken before the death but it shows all HoT heals as crits which causes some inaccuracies in the mod.
Here is a link to the mod: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info13816-Obituary.html
If I had an idea of what I would need to change in the LUA file, I might be able to fix it myself with my severely limited coding knowledge.

I'll understand if you don't feel like this is worth your time.

There was an additional value added to the parameters for the _HEAL events that indicates the amount of healing absorbed. Unfortunately it was inserted prior to the crit parameter and shifted it over one position. As a result, parsers had to be updated to accommodate the new parameter order.

The event parameters are described on more detail here: http://www.wowwiki.com/COMBAT_LOG_EVENT_UNFILTERED

I have this problem: I tried to split incoming heals and incoming damage into two separate fields, but it will only show one of them at the same time. Is there a way around this?

I'm not exactly sure what you're describing, but you can put incoming heals into one scroll area and incoming damage into a different scroll area. What do you mean be one of them at the same time?

I apologise, I should've been more clear. I wasn't sure what caused this at first, but I figured out that it will only show the scroll area that I edited last. If I put the heals in the healing area, it shows that, but if I put the damage in the damage area after that, it only shows the damage. Am I forgetting something I should do to complete the process of creating a new area or something?

Is it possible to only making sound triggers? Have the text to show for trigger to be "" (empty), but still play the sound?

While not the most elegant solution, a way you can do this is to create a new scroll area and purposely move it off screen. Then set the triggers you don't want to see to that off-screen scroll area.

It is strange no matter how low of a point set font I put Crits at, my crit font is always the default size. I've even gone so far as making sure that each scroll area is flagged as 'inherit' but it still wont become the size I've declared in the General->Master Fonts

I'd suggest checking the font settings for the individual crit events themselves as well. It sounds like they are set to specific values versus inherit.

I would use this mod if the local college offered a class on it. If you made a website with a thorough For Dummies style tutorial, I would considering paying like, a dollar for it. That could add up.

There is quite an extensive readme that comes with the mod. The interface is also makes heavy use of tooltips that describe what each option does.

Also you might want to check out the following video: http://www.pvptutorial.com/uitutorial/MSBT

It was created by a fan (Pharaunmizz) a while ago and it's probably not 100% up-to-date, but things haven't changed significantly since it was created, so it should still be fairly accurate.

    Suggestions:

*Add icon replacement (item or spell ID) for any spells [normal events, i.e. not triggers] ("Icon Substitution": Name of skill -> Spell/Item Icon and Skill ID -> Spell/Item Icon)
*Add an option to triggers: "Show as crit if crit". If a trigger has the "%a" modifier and does damage, and crits - show as crit. Will omit the need to create 2 separate triggers (one for normal, one for crit).

Thanks for the suggestions. The icon replacement suggestion is on my list of things to do (which unfortunately as I'm sure you've noticed I haven't had time to push an update for a couple of months).

For the second one, I'd rather not add a check to all triggers that would only actually apply to one or two event types. I understand what you're trying to do though.

I love this addon, it's really great, but i have 1 problem. I want to remove the Spell resist text (1000 <100 resist>), but i can't do it. I unchecked the option, i moved it to the notification area(wich is disable), i put the font to the smallest, but its still appear like if i did not change anything in the option. Can some one help me?

You are describing partial resists. They can be disabled under General->Partial Effects.

The option you were changing is for full resists.

For some reason now when I go into settings it will not let me click on any of trigger events and such. The icons are there and the triggers w/ check marks are there but its like the screen is frozen or something? Any ideas?..

This sounds a lot like a conflict that arises sometimes with HUD type of mods that mess around with frame levels of frames that don't belong to them. I'd suggest temporarily disabling other addons to see if that's the case.

for me, the offending class was Floating Frames. disabling it did the trick.
