  • About MikScrollingBattleText
  •

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:

  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class.
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

  • I love this addon, it's really great, but i have 1 problem. I want to remove the Spell resist text (1000 <100 resist>), but i can't do it. I unchecked the option, i moved it to the notification area(wich is disable), i put the font to the smallest, but its still appear like if i did not change anything in the option. Can some one help me?

You are describing partial resists. They can be disabled under General->Partial Effects.

The option you were changing is for full resists.

For some reason now when I go into settings it will not let me click on any of trigger events and such. The icons are there and the triggers w/ check marks are there but its like the screen is frozen or something? Any ideas?..

This sounds a lot like a conflict that arises sometimes with HUD type of mods that mess around with frame levels of frames that don't belong to them. I'd suggest temporarily disabling other addons to see if that's the case.

Thanks for the add-on, it's very handy. I have a question though. I set up a trigger to play a sound when Daze is removed from a target. I was wondering though if I could have that suppressed if Daze is removed from a target *because the target died.* If the target dies, I don't need to see/hear the notification. I didn't see anything like that in the Exceptions list for the trigger.

Also, can I setup a trigger to go off anytime I receive a stun? Or any movement impairing debuff?

This is a known problem that's been asked about and answered a few times. I should probably make an FAQ entry for it.

The issue is that at the time the game reports the aura fade, the unit isn't really dead yet. As a result checking if the unit is dead won't help. The same problem exists with checking the HP for 0 as it isn't updated yet either. The only possibility would be delaying for some time (which varies depending on network latency, sever processing time, etc). Since the point of a trigger is providing real time information, I don't think it's a good idea to delay every trigger just to account for the possibility they are actually dead now.

For your second question, you can setup a single trigger that searches for various stun/snare effects by name, but the combat log doesn't have any type of generic events for "you are stunned/snared" to trigger on.

I just stopped using a similar addon (SCT/SCTD) because in raids it would slow my fps to a crawl, but am missing some important info that I used to use. Has there been any comparison between this addon and similar ones in how they effect performance?

I may toss this in and give it a test run none the less, but am still interested in other peoples experiences.

I tried it out during raid tonight and it worked great. There was no noticeable difference between the performance with MSBT compared to Blizz's combat text. And how customizable it is makes it so nice. This is now part of my required list of addons.

Thank you for this great addon!

Thanks for posting your experience. To answer your question, there was a performance comparison thread on the official forums posted by a user a few months ago. I'm sure a google search can turn it up.

  • My question: Is there a known problem with procs not playing the sound/text when the proc occurs while in Arenas?

A little more detail: I've used the sounds that come with MSBT to notify me when I have BrainFreeze or Fingers proc. It works fine everywhere until I enter arena. The sounds and also I believe the text does not show when in arenas for procs, etc. I've played about 200 games the past 2 weeks and only 1 random game it worked. Is there a known issue with arenas? If not I'll enable ULA errors and try to find out the problem in more detail.

Unless you have specifically set an exception for it not to fire while in the arenas, it works correctly. I routinely use it for notifications of important abilities in arenas.

  • Well it suddenly started working properly every game now. When I logged in today all my addon settings were reset etc, macros were wiped. I had to fix my UI all over again, but the positive thing out of it was that MSBT worked properly in arenas.

Add 'Rampage' to the Spam Controls->Skill Suppressions list.

  • Hello, I have recently come back to msbt. I was very keen on adding my own sound files to help in my game.
I have made a sound file 'Health30.wav' and added it into the sound folder of msbt. I have then clicked on the Custom Media tab/add sound.
I then add in the sound name 'Health30.wav'
From my understanding of the faq that should be ok but the okay button does not light up for me to accept. I then try putting in the path and that doesn't work either. The sound file was also in the folder before I started wow. Any ideas as to why the okay button does not light up?

I love this addon, but for some weird reason half of my addons reset to default the other day. This was one of them. Since then, I have not been able to get into the options for the addon. I want to change my text and all. I have reinstalled the addon, but it did not work. When I type /msbt it just says "MSBT: Couldn't load MSBTOptions: Disabled. I have the mod enabled. I don't know what the problem is.

It's exactly what the error message is stating. The module is disabled. From your character login screen, click the Addons button and ensure MSBT Options is checked (enabled).
