What is Mage Fever?

Mage Fever is a proc and buff notification addon for mages. It was designed to be simple, light on memory, completely stand alone, and easy to use. Developed by a mage for a mage, it is specifically tailored to help make the most of a mage's damage output and manage their spell rotation. New ideas are continually being submitted by many users resulting in an addon that is extremely flexible and fit for any mage. Mage Fever is designed to visually stand out when needed yet invisible when not. This is accomplished through uniquely colored notification frames with background timers which can be placed anywhere on the screen.

How will I benefit from Mage Fever?

Being a high end raiding mage or dedicated pvp mage, Mage Fever keeps you on top of your game. Decisions in your spell rotation will be much easier to make with all mage procs being much easier to see. Scorch and Living Bomb debuffs are tracked with timers so you will be able to constantly keep that debuff on your target. You will know whether to cast one more fireball or refresh the living bomb. You will know when your are guaranteed a critical strike due to Fingers of Frost or a free fireball from Brain Freeze.

What does Mage Fever track?

Currently, Mage Fever tracks the following buffs, debuffs, and procs:

  • Fingers of Frost
  • Brain Freeze
  • Missile Barrage
  • Clear Casting
  • Arcane Blast
  • Torment the Weak
  • Mirror Image
  • Hot Streak
  • Fire Starter
  • Living Bomb
  • Scorch
  • Impact
  • Fiery Payback

What else does Mage Fever do?

Mage Fever includes a unique Living Bomb tracker for multiple targets. Living Bomb can be monitored on many targets in 2 ways.

  1. Select the target and click the "Add" button to add them as a castable tracking frame. Doing this will allow you to click the status bar and recast Living Bomb on the target. It will automatically target the tracked NPC and recast. This method must be done before entering combat to allow for casting from the status bar (secure frame). The target must have a unique name to work correctly. If there are multiple targets in the area with the same name, Living bomb will be cast on the nearest one.
  2. Simply cast living bomb on a target that is not being tracked and you will see the tracking bar added, showing the time until the bomb explodes. Once the bomb explodes the frame is automatically removed. This can be done while in combat because it does not require a secure frame due to the fact that there is no spell cast script.

How do I use and configure Mage Fever?

Set up and usage is very simple. Mage Fever is designed to be ready to go once installed. The only thing that needs to be done is to select the desired spells to track. The best way to configure Mage Fever is via the Options Panel, which can be accessed through the command "/mfever options".

Usage

  • "/mfever options" - Shows Options panel
  • Right click and drag to move frames.

What to look for in future releases

The goal of Mage Fever is to be a must for any mage. To accomplish this, it will be continually improved with new features designed to aid in every aspect of playing a mage while being extremely light weight and easy on memory. There are currently a couple new features to look for in future releases.

  • Spell Rotation Helper - This will give a better visual understanding of your rotation in relation to main nuke spells such as Fireball, Frostfire Bolt, Arcane Blast, Frost Bolt, and Arcane Missiles. With haste becoming a major role in DPS, the spell rotation helper will present a better understanding of whether to continue with nuking or refresh any debuffs.
  • Resizable Frames - Frames will resizable by clicking and dragging. This will make Mage Fever much easier to integrate with your UI setup by allowing each notification to resized to fit any where.

The show/non show function being reversed is something that happens sometimes when updated the addon. I'm not sure why this happens, but it usually ends up fixing it self as the values of the each frames show variable is aligned after a few logins.

For a future patch, if the LB Tracker also incorporated the raid icons that would be sweet.

Ill be able to work on it a bit tomorrow. I know exactly what the bug is, but getting rid of it is proving to be a nuisance. What is happening is the Living Bomb tracker is created via Lua code, all other frames are created from xml code. The addon is trying to apply your saved scale to the Living bomb tracker window before it is created, causing an error. It can be fixed, but might require a bit of code work to overcome.

Again, I'm sorry for the bug, but I'm working to squash it.

Like apparently some others, after updating to 2.1.2 I started getting errors with the mf.lua file. I went back to the previous version to overcome it. .... Love the addon and I'll update again as soon as a version comes out that doesn't have the problem.

I'll try my other laptop in a little while and see if it gets the error. I'm running Windows Vista with a Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB RAM.

  • I have 2 mages 1 horde 1 Ally (Odd i know) the horde one loads with no errors the Ally one loads with errors every time, although seems to function fine. all my other chars load with an error but that is solved by switching off the addon for them. Awesome addon though dont know what i would do without it.

Ok, that error just won't go away. I'm trying to figure out why I'm never getting and only a few people are. I've got a couple ideas to fix it for good so I'll try them this evening.

Thanks for pumping out these updates so quickly! I downloaded the 2.1.2 update and TTW and Clearcasting started showing up correctly. However, Missile Barrage didn't display when that talent proc'd for me. I'm only a 53 Arcane Mage and don't have a full 5 points in that talent yet... could that be the reason why it's not displaying the notification?

I don't see a reason why it wouldn't show. If the others are showing, then MB should as well because it's the same code. I have noticed that sometimes the check boxes on the Options Panel and the actual values become misaligned (they may be checked but the value is really set to false). I'm not sure how this happens, but usually on an update. Uncheck it and reload it. Then check it and reload it. It usually irons itself out.

During last night's raid I noticed the ttw-tracker didn't show ever, while I got it enabled. Anyone else having the same?

Just tested on target dummy: Fired frostfire bolt (slow effect should trigger ttw) and nothing showed up.

Also, everywhere I look, frostfire isn't considered a snare and won't proc TTW. Where are you getting this info? I put it in last night as a snare, but I need to remove it if it truly doesn't snare the target.

Are you guys using 2.1.2? I tested it last night on the dummies and TTW was working fine for me. I added frostfire bolt last night as well.

2.1.1 Released. The bug with procs not showing up should be fixed. They should also appear instantly the proc happens. I found a few things that might have caused the Living Bomb tracker bug as well.
