About Mappy

Mappy is a minimap addon which changes the standard round minimap into a square minimap. In addition, it adds these features to the minimap:

  • Automatic layout of addon buttons
  • Zooming in and out with the mouse wheel
  • Combat alpha setting
  • Save and load profiles (size, position, settings, etc.)
  • Flashing nodes for better visibility (off by default)

Recent Changes

2.2.5 Changes

  • BUGFIX: Fixed QuestHelper support so that QH icons don't end up behind the minimap

2.2.4 Changes

  • BUGFIX: Adjusted mirrored player arrow to avoid ghosting
  • BUGFIX: Mirrored player arrow fades out as minimap (and normal player arrow) fade in

  • Interact with hundreds of thousands of other gamers on an open social network.
  • Post your stories, news, images, videos, and other content to share.
  • Create a network with your fellow gamers or join an existing one.
  • Gain reputation for everything you do.
  • Mappy seemingly does not respect the screen size as set by e.g. CT_viewport.
When I use the buttonbar with GroupCalendar5_Clock, a large part of the big clock is outside the viewable part of the screen.
It may be necessary to check the size of the top button before you position the button bar. Perhaps the easy way would be to make the button bar movable?

For fun, I used the /mappy gather command after seeing another user's comments here. Now, There is no longer a map, my direction arrow is in the middle of the screen, and I can't correct the problem. /mappy default fetches the error: [Error] [Mappy] Expected Command

    Thoughts?

  • /mappy normal

will return it to your default (I really need to add an alias for Default). Gather mode is just a pre-set configuration which makes your minimap very large, transparent, ghosted (passes mouse clicks through to the world), and centered on the screen. This has the effect of making your minimap dots (mining nodes, herb nodes, etc.) float over your screen, making it easy to locate nodes.

    You can use the command

    /mappy unghost

to make it clickable, then you can right-click it to adjust it.

    /mappy ghost

returns it to unclickable so you can use your mouse on the environment like normal.

  • First off, Love the addon. Only problem I am having is the Gatherer nodes not allowing me to mouseover and see the stats. Saw that someone else had this problem but all that was mentioned is that it worked just fine for you. No mention of solution or fix for it. Just hoping for some help. Thank you in advance. FG34

  • Thanks, I forgot about Gatherer -- I found the problem and fixed it for QuestHelper but didn't apply the change to Gatherer. I'll get a new version uploaded soon with that correction.

  • I've run into that problem as well. I had to uninstall Mappy because it was moving my quest and achievement trackers off screen. I love Mappy but I use my Minimap on the bottom of my screen and I'd like to have the quest and achviement trackers. So Mappy = gone until fixed.

    And I don't use Vista :)

  • That's the new movable tracker stuff Blizzard put in 3.1. There's a post farther down describing how to get them where you want them.

Did you know if you move mappy off screen even slightly it screws up the map? It appears to compress the map and it most defiantly throws off the accuracy of people, quest givers, nodes, etc. If you move it back onscreen it fixes the issue.

  • Yes, that's WoW and all minimap addons will do this. WoW doesn't allow the minimap itself to be offscreen and renders incorrectly if it is.

    Gatherer addon + /mappy gather = pure awesome :)

  • Lol, thanks -- that's my favorite thing too. I feel a little like I'm cheating while gathering in that mode because it's so easy :)

My problem with mappy moving offscreen is definitely an issue with mappy itself not vista. I have determined this because no other addon's do not save their positions or values including the little test addon I wrote trying to learn how they work. Infact mappy saves all of its settings it just moves the map down and left every time I reset the ui or log out. It's always exactly the same distance. So something is different with mappy's saving than any other addon I have. This isn't a killer and i love the addon but it is kinda annoying to have to move it back every time. Heck I probably would not even notice if it wasn't moving it slightly off the screen.

You're right, and creeping off the screen with each login would not be a problem caused by WoW's Vista issues (those issues would cause the position to not save, but it wouldn't cause it to constantly change to new positions).

I would look for another addon trying to reposition the map for you -- it sounds like Mappy and something else (MoveAnything or something similar perhaps?) fighting for control and each one causing the other to slowly push the map farther and farther away.

Hey that was it! I totally forgot about move anything. I had used it to move the original minimap then forgot about it. I did not even think of it since I used sexymap after and it did not experience this same effect.. So it was not Mappy per se but an interaction between the 2 that other addon did not show. Thanks for the help!

Now is there a way to move the buttons to the other side of the map? I have my map in the lower left and would like the few buttons on the left side.

So i found a post on making addons work with vista and it basically says don't install in program files and I never have, I install in D:\games. What settings in the savedvariables mappy.lau file save the position? I played with manually changing the 2 offset variables and they don't appear to make any difference on the position.

  • This is the best minimap addon ever.
    Simple but full of features.
    Really great work.
    Thanks Mundocani.

Would it be possible to have an option to turn off the border? Mappy works great, but the UI-Tooltip-Border doesn't fit in my UI. I'd like a better option for it than to open up the lua and comment out a couple of lines - especially as this makes the Curse Client grumpy. :)

  • Thanks, I'll keep the suggestion in mind next time I'm working on an update!
