  • About MailTo Next
  •

My wife loved MailTo's ability to right click on items... Now that is more-or-less gone, she whined me into coming up with alternatives.

This version adds a new window when you open mailbox, trade, auction house, that function as a condensed version of your inventory.

  • IMPORTANT

Mailto has no way of determining the recipient of a mail is your alt or not, unless you have checked mail with that character (thus Mailto has their inbox record) at the time of sending mail.

---

MailTo Next can filter items in inventory to display. for filter types, refer to item types (NOT sub-types) here

http://www.wowwiki.com/ItemType

---

   	when mailbox is open,
left click in the mailable item to attach it to mail.
right click in the mailable item to mail it to current recipient
   	when trade is open,
left click in the tradable item to add it to trade.
right click in the tradable item to accept trade.
   	when auction house is open,
left click in the auctionable item to enter the name into auction search
right click in the auctionable item to create auction.

shift-left-click on item while chat is open will link the item
shift-left-click on the item when chat is not open will split stack
shift-right-click on the item will pick up the item.
You can drop picked up item in the empty slot.

v1.58, USEnglish client/server, WoW 3.1.3 live. Open a mail on one character which has come from a character you have deleted (the "from" name is "Unknown"). The mail contains gold, silver & copper...and nothing else. Try to click the "money" icon inside the opened mail to get it. It doesn't work and an error is thrown up:

    [2009/07/18 17:52:47-861-x11]: MailTo\MailTo.lua:403: bad argument #3 to 'format' (string expected, got nil) MailTo\MailTo.lua:403: in function < Interface\AddOns\MailTo\MailTo.lua:396 >
    MailTo\MailTo.lua:458: in function < Interface\AddOns\MailTo\MailTo.lua:455 >

Error repeated 11 times. Worked around by logging out, disabling MailTo Next and relogging. Could then retrieve the money from the mail. The mail was not a COD, just a straight send of money from a deleted character to an active character.

But as noted before, v1.58 fixes the big issue of sent mail often not showing up on character's Inboxs. Which is great.

I was wondering how to globally turn off the mailable frame so that it doesn't pop up on any character. Or, if possible, to condense the addon for use of the mailing list and ctrl+shift features with marking mail as read and looting only. I realize that is asking quite a bit, but those are the only features I use. Im trying to cut down memory usage and loading time into the WoW world.

    Thank you.

I just realized that the total file size is only 134KB, so loading time isn't an issue. However, my question still stands.

    Thanks.

It seems like MailTo don't check if there really are no items to get from mail, but delete the mail when it can't get any.
Because of that I got some recipes deleted.
I was newly logged in and the information about the recipes were not yet sent from server. I could see there were some recipes but not what kind.

I don't know if there are much I can do about that when server is telling MailTo that it has no item in the mail.

  • jouret said

The mail was showing a recipe/pattern but tooltip told that information was gathering from server..

It would be fine if MailTo really do a check if there's an item in the mail.
Just trying to grab an item and then delete the mail when MailTo can't grab any, is not doing a check.
It's a big difference between "server is telling MailTo that it has no item in the mail" and "server is not giving any information about an item".
If a mouse-over gives me information there's an item in the mail, MailTo should be able to see that as well.

Its more of a problem with MailTo not saving items properly in its database. Something I've noticed increasingly regularly since the WoW 3.1 patch and its a major problem.

For example, enter WoW and log on a character for which MailTo previously had items saved in its database (fully accessible via "/inbox"). On that character, do not head to the mailbox during the session. Log out that character. Then log on a different character (same session, WoW is not exited).

Most of the time, pulling up "/inbox" on that different character will show "0" items for the previous character's inbox.

Exit and log back on, MailTo Next will continue to think "0" items are in some character's inboxes until you visit those character's inboxes again. And it won't alert you to mail expiries on logon for characters for which MailTo Next is mistakenly deleting/not saving data for. Not good.

It is definitely not an issue with Blizzard's mailbox handling or anything similar. Can say that because the mod BankItems (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/bank-items.aspx) does not have this problem.

Whether or not you visit the inbox on a character during a session or any other time, BankItems always maintains proper inbox records reflecting the last time a character visited its inbox. It never has an issue showing "0" items when there really are items in the mailbox.

Hope this issue with MailTo Next can be fixed.

    Zidomo:
This sounds like different issues than jouret had.
The /inbox command isn't available when the MailBox is actually open.
The database for it is never used to verify existence of items, since only the server knows for sure.

As to the /inbox command not keeping the items stored in the mailbox, I've just test your scenario, and this is what I found:

    1) I sent an item from my mage to my priest.
    2) /inbox immediately registered item in my priest inbox (with green text)
    3) I logged in my priest, didn't check the MailBox, still say (1) in green.
    4) I logged my warlock, still says (1) in green.
    5) I logged my priest in, checked MailBox, closed it, now /inbox says (1) in white.
    6) I logged my mage in, (1) in white.
    7) I logged my priest in, (1) in white.
    8) I logged my mage in, (1) in white.

It is possible that your inbox data has become corrupted in some way.
You can fix this by wiping out the database and start over using "/inbox reset" command

I said nothing about using "/inbox" while the mailbox was open or the database doing its own verification. I'm talking about the MailTo database not properly maintaining and/or displaying its own data under certain (common) circumstances.

If the database was corrupted, the issue would not resolve itself automatically whenever an inbox is checked on a character. An extensive mod tester here (who regularly CHKDSKs his hard drives); I never have problems with "corrupted" files. The steps below are reproducible on a MailTo saved variables delete/redo.

Your testing conditions were not identical to mine. Recording mail sent during the same session of WoW (logging on different character without completely exiting WoW) is not the problem. The problem is:

--Have bunches of mail that extends back weeks in various character's mailboxes. Log on any character. Or, if you cleared your saved variables before starting, log on _all_ characters and open all thier mailboxes.

--Go back to the first character you logged on during the session and confirm that using the "/inbox" command on that character correctly shows the proper inbox contents on all characters.

    --Then, exit WoW.

--Restart WoW and log on with a character (we'll call "Character 1").

--_Do not_ visit Character 1's actual mailbox and _do not_ use the "/inbox" command.

--Log out to the character screen.

--Select a different character ("Character 2") to log on with--that you know from memory has many items in its mailbox.

--After logon of Character 2, type in "/inbox" (do not visit that character's mailbox before doing so).

--Change the dropdown on the "inbox" window to show Character 1's inbox. More likely than not, Character 1 will show no items at all (whereas bringing up BankItem's recorded mailbox for the character will show the proper mailbox contents).

--Log out Character 2 and log Character 1 back on. Type in "/inbox" again right after logon, _before_ visiting the mailbox.

--More likely than not, you will now see 0 items in both Character 1 & Character 2's recorded inboxes.

--Now go to the actual mailbox of Character 1 and open it. Let it load fully if you are lagging. Then close it.

--Bring up "/inbox" again. The mailbox contents for Character 1 should now properly show in the "inbox" frame. Character 2's inbox will still improperly show "0" items.

--Right now, due to the fact you visited Character 1's inbox during a WoW session, it will properly show up now on all characters for which you pull up the "/inbox" frame.

But exit and come back, do the same steps as the above again and its almost guaranteed that you will encounter at least one (or more) characters for which the /inbox frame improperly shows "0" items.

Sounds like it will take weeks to set things up just to test it.
I won't be able to spend that much time doing that, unless I get more reports of this issues, I am going to have to keep this on back burner.

This issue seriously degrades the utility of the addon. As when MailTo incorrectly registers "0" items for a character, it will provide no chat expiry feedback. As well as no way to check the true contents of those "empty" mailboxes until you actually visit the characters.

Its not necessary to have mail "that extends back weeks" to reproduce this. That was just my testing condition.

Instead, buy a few piles of level 5 food & drink from one of the original Azeroth cities for a few copper. Say, 5 piles (of varying stack amounts) for each character you have. Mail the varying amounts to each character. Then take one of the characters you mailed piles to and do the same in return to the original character.

That will create a starting point (step #1) for the process which will reproduce the problem. Can then proceed to steps #2 ("go back to the first character you logged on..."), #3 ("...exit WoW") and on.

I've mailed 2 of my 3 active toons 5 stacks of Imbued Vials (I have alchemist, so I will use those sooner or later).
Stack counts are 1 through 5.

They will sit on my mailbox for next month, and see how things go.
So far I have not been able to duplicate your issue..

Meanwhile, Please try "/inbox reset" command.

Good news so far. The new v1.57/v1.58 seems to be saving the MailTo inbox contents properly for characters who you have not opened the real mailbox for in a session, as BankItems does. Will post if any further issues.

    Hi Devilcat,

Can you please get in touch with WoWMatrix so as to enable their client to work with your add-on?

I like your add-on a lot. However, my aim playing WoW isn't about spending hours downloading add-ons, but hours playing it.

Thus - unless it can be included in my regular WoWmatrix update run, I will stop using it and encourage everyone doing same.

    Cheers,

    N.
