Does this support profession linking from alts?

Ronin1337: I took the ideas I sent you in pm and built on them. This was mainly because of a few guildies that just never type "!enchant" no matter what. So I started parsing the string and matching whole words against predefined triggers. So the result is that when someone says "can someone link their enchanting" in guild, or if a friend whispers me "please link cooking" my mod auto-generates the whisper. I was inspired by your mod, so thank you! I've definitely gone overboard and put a lot of features in it, but I'm still new to programming, so it's still fun at the moment :)

Anyway, FangShui you might want to try it, though it sounds like it will be hard to please you :)

Because I am not getting paid to make this addon. I program all day long for my job, and it would take much more work to 'Support every possible link behavior' than to just do what it does now. If I get the time, maybe I will...but for now, I am not willing to put that much time into it. If it concerns you that much, maybe that means you should pick up a lua book and make this magical 'Do everything' app yourself.

Why cant people who write addons that have something to do with link put every link-behavior possible (item links in custom channels, URL links, etc)? Why is it that you have to install 5 tiny addons for things that should have been in a single one.
it's like making one an addon for links in trade channel, one addon for general channel, one for guild channel, one for custom channels. Stupid.

  • Had a chance to get this installed today. I haven't had any problems and this is a very creative way to make linking easy. Good job. 5 stars.

I also noticed a couple of commands wouldn't work like "!blacksmithing". After looking at the code, I realized you only had certain shortcuts like "!bs" or "!black" but not "!blacksmithing".

I modded it a bit to include all the full names as well as the shortcuts. I also moved the if/then around so if you sent a command for a profession someone doesn't have, it will report an error. Before it would just not respond. I'll pm you the .lua, if you want to use it.

I really love the idea of this mod. A couple of issues, first of all it comes up as "out of date", even though it was just released today. After force loading it, I can send myself whispers like "!info" "!enchant" and it works, but when anybody else sends me a whisper with the same, I get 4 messages saying "You cannot speak that language" and they get nothing back. I'm horde btw.

So, I resolved these issues changing the interface number to 3000 in the .toc.

To resolve the language issue, I actually removed the "englishFaction" variable, and the if/then block to check for Horde. I removed the alliance section, and changed the horde launguage in "sendChatMesssage" from '"ORCISH"' to 'nil'. This will use the default language, so no need to check what faction they are. Works great.

Good Feed back, I am going setup some slash commands for one so that you can see for yourself what the commands are like "/linker info".

It is just a very simple, low memory app that is helpful for friends if they know you have a certain profession.

as for !blacksmithing or !black, the string find should detect "!black" inside the word "!blacksmithing" but if there is addition words or key phrases you want me to support I can certainly add them in.

As per the out of date issue, I will check it out as it did not come up on mine.

And it is interesting you bring up the language issue as I just checked in a fix for that to exactly what you mentioned. Not sure why I didn't do that from the start. I am new to the wow API but it has been updated.

My bad, I only looked at the code quickly, didn't actually try blacksmithing (as I don't have it), but I see you're right on that.

I added one more thing that I found funny, but useful. I have a friend who always whispers me "can you link me your enchanting". Even when I was using craftlist2 (supports !enchant) he would never use it. Using linker he still would type out that question. I noticed a lot of people do that.

So I added a test for that string. Worked great, I'm looking for "link me" then "enchant" or "cooking" etc. Maybe you can add that as optional, maybe enable with a slash command. Sounds like you want it to be light weight, so that may be over kill.
