  • About LinkWrangler
  •

LinkWrangler will allow you to open multiple item link windows from text links in the chat window. Ever been asked to compare items from the chat window for someone? Sitting there clicking back and forth between the two links, trying to remember the statistics of each? Ever want to look at multiple items as they blaze by you in the chat frame only to find out that the other links have long since disappeared by the time you are done with the first? This is the addon for you!

Features:

  • Clicking on links in chat text will bring up multiple reference tooltips for side-by-side comparison or just for simultaneous browsing
  • Tooltips have extra buttons providing features such as minimising the tooltip or relinking it to chat
  • Key binds to close or minimize all windows
  • Key bind to open a LinkWrangler window for the item you point the mouse at
  • Refer to the included LinkWrangler.htm file for basic instructions

Compatibility:

  • Many other AddOns have been written to use LinkWrangler windows
  • Provides easy access for other AddOn authors to hook into the tooltips
  • Can be reconfigured to avoid conflicts with other AddOns
  • You can disable some features if you do not use them; for example the extra buttons can be disabled individually

Documentation (included in the download):

  • LinkWrangler.htm : basic information
  • SlashCommands.htm : full documentation of all the slash commmands, with examples
  • Developer.htm : documentation of the LinkWrangler callback API, and all other exports, for AddOn authors

    Greetings.

    Since a lot of us that use Auctioneer think it's bloatware and there are better alternatives, could you please add support for the following addons:

    Auctionator, AuctionLite, AuctionMaster?

    These three would be great if Linkwrangler would have support for them.

    Thank you in advance, and congratulations on a well-done addon!

    Is it possible to add support for Tooltip Border Remover - http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info12602-TooltipBorderRemover.html I really don't like the Borders and this use to work together but something changed has caused it to not work anymore.

    Tooltip Border Remover only works on the two default Blizzard tooltips. It could probably be modified to work on LinkWrangler tooltips. Or it might be easier for me to write some code in LinkWrangler Companion that does the same thing.

    That would be amazing removing those terrible borders would make my day I hope you decide to do this.

    I believe this add-on is conflicting with an add-on called Altoholic. When I have both on, I get a Lua error every time I click on a link. This is the message:

    Message: Interface\AddOns\Altoholic\Altohlic.lua:50: attempt to index field 'Tooltip' (a nil value)
    Time: 12/28/09 15:28:04

    Interface\AddOns\LinkWrangler\LinkWrangler.lua:2138: in function <Interface\AddOns\LinkWrangler\LinkWrangler.lua:2131>

    Locals: frame = LinkWranglerTooltip1 {
    0 = <userdata>

    SetBagItem = <function> defined =[C]:-1
    SetMerchantCostItem = <function> defined =[C]:-1
    SetQuestLogItem = <function> defined =[C]:-1
    SetLootItem = <function> defined =[C]:-1

    }
    name = "Honeymint Tea"
    link = "[Honeyming Tea]"

    (*temporary) = nil
    (*temporary) = nil
    (*temporary) = nil
    (*temporary) = nil
    (*temporary) = "attempt to index field 'Tooltip' (a nil value)"

    If I disable one or the other, the error doesn't come up. So there oughtta be something wrong with one or the other add-on. I also tried many different links, every single one does it. I also posted this on Altoholics page.

    It looks like Thaoky changed his tooltip code around, but forgot to update Altoholic's interface with LinkWrangler to match. The only thing I can suggest is to go back to the previous version of Altoholic until it can be fixed.

    Can You, please, add TipTac compatibility?

    I've had a look at the TipTac page and it looks like Aezay no longer has a WoW account - I will see about adding it to LinkWranger Companion. Looks like he provided a good access point for other tooltips :)

    Version 1.611 (when it gets approved). It's beta, so give it a try and tell me if it breaks anything!

    That screenshot is by the original LinkWrangler author Fallan, so it's over three years old! I've kept LinkWrangler looking the same, but I doubt whatever other UI he used still exists.

    hey was just wondering if you where having any luck with the compare tool tip so it tells you what the difference is between the items?

    Reply Report Permalink
  • brykrys said

    This appears to be built into the SetHyperlinkCompareItem function. Unfortunately this works in a different way to the current LinkWrangler code. Also it doesn't support everything the LinkWrangler compare code does (e.g recipes), and I will not remove functionality from LinkWrangler to implement this. Which all probably means it won't happen any time soon.

    Release version 1.8

    This time: TOC update for WoW 3.3, plus some extra API options and internal tweaks.

    I think it's time I cleared out some of the older files...
