  • About LFMonitor
  •

LFMonitor monitors the trade, guild, LFG and general channels for 'Looking For' requests from other players, and copies them to a separate window with an audio prompt. If required, a preconfigured response can be sent to the relevant player from a simple sub-menu

It can be customised to only catch specific trade requests or class requests for groups.

LFMonitor even tries to capture misspellings and variations, e.g. LF rouge, LF inscriptioner, etc.

If you notice any words that LFMonitor is missing or not correctly recognising, please advise me.

Seemed like good ideas I thought.

thanks for the replys!! one more question, would it be very hard to make the auto reply have an option to auto reply when simply clicking on a post in your chatbox? the reason for asking is dps spots in pugs can be highly competitive, and the time it takes to actually type one out, well, most times, the spot is filled ^^ with your auto reply, the time is considerably less, however, the right click + find menu listing is still a tad slower then being able to just "click" and autoreply.

again, i dont know if this can even be implemented, but if it can, im sure every dps in wow would regard you as a god ^^

    thanks again!

The only problem I see with this approach (aside from whispering someone by accident) is those groups that require you to whisper specific achievements. All I implement here would be a simple message, such as "invite!" e.g. Is that what you had in mind?

oh oh, another way to help alleviate misclicking whispers is to have a standard 2 spaces between LFG/LFM messages inside your addon box... what do you think?

yes and no, as for the message, let it be customizable, IE: up to say 25 characters or something.

as for the autoreply function itself, have it as an option, IE able to toggle the function on and off for the click or right click + menu, and if it can only autoreply inside your addon window, those two things would minimize the mistaken autoreplys considerably.

as for the link to achieves, i wouldnt know how to circumvent that, and not sure there would be a way honestly, as it takes alot of time to even search for the achievement itself, unless one has a mod that makes them faster to reach, but again, sounds like something for a seperate mod ^^

    thanks for the reply!

I'm not comfortable with the whole one-click approach to be honest. I've tried to hit a compromise with v3.2.1.5 though. An autoreply response can be set for LFM requests, which can include achievement links if required. So it's just a case of right-click on the name, select autoreply, job done. Still a pretty swift way of responding I think.

also, this does not include messages such as "lf tank" or "lf healer"... i am a healer and would like to autoreply to the "lf healer" ones, how can i add those to be watched?

LFMonitor will respond to "lfm tank" or "lf1m healer", but at present will not respond to "lf tank", etc (all based on class selection in the options screen). Because of the way LFMonitor works, correcting this is not trivial, but I'll look into sorting it out.

    hmm.. is there a reason this addon does not monitor the LFG channel as well? the feature to be able to autoreply by clicking on monitored messages is a really nice idea, but all the messages in LFG channel are not included so I can not autoreply ; ;

Yes - the reason is it was originally designed to monitor chat channels for trade requests - the lfg stuff was added as an aside. I'll have a look at changing this if I can though.

Nice idea, but high CPU usage.

Tested with OptionHouse (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/optionhouse.aspx) with CPU profiling enabled, this uses 0.5-0.6 CPU/second when a character is idle. It shouldn't use any. Or at least, it should use a lot less than it does.

When the alert frame is visible, this goes up to 1.1-1.3 CPU/second, which is quite high.

Again, nice idea and seems to function well, but it needs to become more efficient.

I've downloaded optionhouse and to be honest the performance of LFMonitor compared to nearly all the other 48 addons I have installed is actually quite good. Whether the character is idle or not is irrelevant as LFMonitor is constantly watching the chat frames *unless* you're not in a trade enabled zone. Nevertheless, I have made a few changes to ensure that cpu/second drops to zero when not in a monitored zone, but since there's a lot going on behind the scenes when parsing chat text, it's hard to see a way of reducing the usage here. Can I ask what frame of reference you're using to determine whether something is high cpu/second or not - I'm still quite new at this.

Thanks very much for your reply.

Frame of reference: testing mods with CPU profiling enabled for 4 years and having a large amount of experience (and a viewpoint) as to what "large" is ;). I'm a professional software tester by trade (working with Java apps).

Any amount of CPU being consumed is particularly a problem when in combat. No matter how large (or small), it all adds up. In library systems such as Ace3, its less of an issue as those libraries are usually shared by a large number of other mods a user may be running. Ace3 alone (installed as its own mod) uses about 0.25-0.3 CPU/second. When you have 20 mods using the library, that amount is insignificant.

But then you have mods which have a problem with CPU, but consume it "through" the library. Which you can measure this installing the libraries as "their own mods" separately.

Finally you have mods (such as this one) that eat CPU on their own. Again, its primarily an issue in combat. 25-man raids can push even the fastest computers to the edge. If you could drop it to not monitoring anything in chat at all when not in the LFG channel, it would help (unless you have already done that in the latest revision).

One thing that may help: looking at how Chatter (http://www.wowace.com/addons/chatter/) "monitors" chat. It has a module called "Highlights" which monitors chat and provides alerts (sound, redirection to scrolling battle text, etc.) when a word you have set to be alerted to is said in chat. It does this without using extra CPU time.

Always handy to have a tester on board. LFMonitor has a setting to hide itself in combat. I'll take a loot at chatter, but I suspect he's doing things in a similar manner to me, with the exception that LFMonitor is searching for potentially a large number of possible matches - nevertheless I will put some more thought into improving the parsing function if I can.

UI works great but any chance of changing the size of the chat log box that shows? its just a little bit longer than the normal chat frame and i would like to measure it up to the same size

I've reduced the minimum size in v3.2.1.2
