  • About ItemPimper
  •

ItemPimper allows you to select an enchant and gems for an item, and then gives you an item link with those gems and enchants on it. Its main use is together with RatingBuster; by tweaking the gems and enchants, you can see exactly what effects they will have on your important statistics.

You can assign a keybinding to it (I use 'i' myself); then when you're looking at the tooltip of an item and press your keybinding, the window pops up showing the item (and its gems and enchants, if it already has them). Alternatively, you can type /ip [Some Cool Item] .

How to use: for each socket, there are three dropdown boxes. The middle one lets you select the colors of the gems the right dropdown should show. For example, if you select Red and Blue, then the right dropdown will show gems that match red or blue sockets. Furthermore, if you set the left dropdown to "Only", then it will show the gems that match *only* red or blue sockets, and no other colors; if you set it to "All", then all gems that match a red or blue sockets are shown, regardless of what other colors they match. The checkboxes provide more control over which gems should be shown.

Notices:

  • I'm not sure if it knows all the gems and enchants. If you use it on an item which has an enchant or gem that it doesn't know, it will print a message in your chat log. This message will contain a number (which it calls "id") - please let me know this number, so I can add the gem or enchant.
  • If you're a blacksmither and have the tradeskill that puts an extra socket on your gloves or bracers, the addon should allow you to put an extra gem on your gloves or bracers. However, it seems like Blizzard changed things: the way in which I tested if you could socket your gloves and bracers now only works if you have the Blacksmithing window open. So if you're a blacksmither and you want to gem your gloves or bracers, FIRST open your blacksmithing window, and THEN open ItemPimper; then it should work as expected.
  • With the current filtering options for gems, the addon has the ability to show all gems known to it in a single dropdown. However, there are a lot of gems in the game, and due to a design decision of Blizzard, part of the memory that it allocates for showing all these gems cannot be freed again until the next reload of the interface. So if you have a limited amount of memory available for addons, you shouldn't set it to show all the gems.
  • The addon should work with any language version now. However, the names of the gems and enchants are still in English -- but the tooltips will show the correct names.
  • As you can see from the screenshot, if you have Skinner, then it also skins itself :-)

    Can't add in extra sockets to Gloves & Bracers (Blacksmithing extra sockets) like you could with the previous version.

    ItemPimper does its work just fine - or it wouldn't have changed the name of the enchant on your weapon to Massacre. (I also tested it.)
    By default, RatingBuster ignores the enchants in calculating the increase or decrease in your stats. Have you set it to not do that?

    Ok I like this tool for being able to mess around with stuff BUT for me the main feature doesn't work. I used my De-Raged Waraxe to modify it. Default it has savagery (+85 ATK Power) and I replaced it with massacre (+110 ATK Power). Now both links result in the same stats. The new one does not get updated and the original and resulting link have the same stats saying +0,+0,+0,+0 and so on with ratingbuster. it replaces the name of the enchant though...but since it doesnt cooperate with ratingbuster there isnt really a use of it for me. Both are up to date...any solution for this?

    Yes the /ip [item] function works. I will try the tooltip+keybinding when I get home. Thank you for the help.

    The keybinding doesn't want to work for me. I first attempted to go into the file of the addon folder to change it but it came up with an error so I returned it to normal. I then went to my keybindings ingame and assigned it to a key but when I push it..The box doesnt come up..Any solution?

    You have to be looking at the tooltip of some item. If you're not when you press the keybinding, then the addon has no way of knowing of which item you want to do the gems and enchant.

    If that doesn't solve it, does typing "/ip [your item]" work?

    Hmm, not sure if it's been mentioned, but the enchant "Rune of the Stone Skin Gargoyle" is missing from the list. ID=3847 I believe it is. Thanks for the updates so far.

  • Hello,
    I use the French client so I have a problem with line 41 in Itemlinks.lua
    found, _, color = string.find(text, "^(.+) Socket");

    In Considerater\Core.lua http://www.wowace.com/projects/considerater/

    Line 782 they use :
    if (sum["EMPTY_SOCKET_RED"] or
    sum["EMPTY_SOCKET_YELLOW"] or
    sum["EMPTY_SOCKET_BLUE"] or
    sum["EMPTY_SOCKET_META"]) then
    gemmed = true
    end

    Thanks for telling me this, I didn't know these variables existed :-) I've fixed it, it should work in any locale now; the new version should appear here soon. However, the names of all the enchants and gems are still in English - but the tooltips will show the names in the right languange.

    Brilliant Addon
    The new gem window works fine, and is a good addition.

    Just thought id let you know that +20 Resilience to chest is missing as an enchant (ID 3245)
    And that the Blacksmithing Sockets do not seem to be showing up for me.

    Ah yes, I see there was an error in the code that does that. Should be fixed now, and the enchant is in there now too. Thanks for the feedback :-)

    I've also added tooltips to the enchant dropdown, and you can now properly link the gems and enchants listed in the dropdowns through chat.

    I have rewritten almost all of the code -- the dropdowns now scroll if they get too large; if you hover over an gem in a dropdown you see a tooltip now, and I've added more control over the colors of the gems you want to see.

    Great addon! Works well once it dawned on me that some gems don't change stats at all, lol.

    Though I do agree with the earlier poster, even tho you can use the check boxes to filter it is a bit frustrating when the drop down gets cut off the screen.

    Will you also be adding an enchant mouse over similar to the gems? Would be great to also see what the enchants are.
