About Grid

Grid is a party/raid unit frame addon. The compact grid of units lets you select a group member quickly, while retaining a good overview of the whole group. It displays as much information as possible without overloading the user. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how that information is displayed. It is also modular, making it easy to add new features.

Grid includes status modules for health, mana, incoming heals, aggro/threat, buffs and debuffs, and range. It supports pets and vehicles. Each unit's frame is a health bar, with additional statuses overlaid on top. Information can be displayed using the center text, the center icon, the frame border, the frame opacity, or the colored square in each of the four corners.

Due to its flexible design, Grid has a fairly daunting configuration menu. We recommend taking a few minutes to look through the configuration and familiarize yourself with the options available to you.

There is also a small User's Guide which you may find helpful.

How to report a bug in Grid

Before reporting a bug, check the bug tracker to see if someone else has already reported it.

Once you've verified that the bug hasn't been reported yet, submit a new ticket.

Be sure to include the following information in your ticket:

  • Grid version (ex: 1.30200.2009120101 from curse.com)
  • WoW version (ex: 3.2.2 enUS)
  • What you were doing when the bug occured
  • What happened (ie. what the bug is)
  • Any error messages (enable Lua error display, or install BugSack)
  • A screenshot if it is a graphical bug

Please check on your ticket daily. If a ticket is waiting on a response from you for more than 7 days, I will assume that you have fixed the problem yourself and have abandoned the ticket.

Design overview

Grid is based on the concept of statuses and indicators. A status is a piece of information, such as a unit's health or aggro status. An indicator is a part of the unit frame that can display information, such as the health bar or a corner square.

More than one status can be assigned to one indicator, and one status can be assigned to more than one indicator. This is where the priority system comes into play. Each status is assigned a priority level. Each indicator will show the highest-priority status active at any given time.

For example: The Power Word: Shield and Weakened Soul statuses show you when those auras (buffs or debuffs) are active on a particular unit. If you assign both statuses to the Bottom Left Corner indicator, and give them priority levels of 90 and 80, respectively, then when you cast Power Word: Shield on a unit, you will only see the Power Word: Shield status, until the shield is absorbed or expires, at which time you will then see the Weakened Soul status until it ends.

Each status consists of the following:

name
The internal name used by Grid to identify the status.
description
The name displayed in Grid's menus.
priority
A number from 0 (lowest) to 99 (highest).
range (optional)
If specified, the status will only be shown if the unit is within range yards of the player.
color
A color (including alpha) to be used when the status is displayed.
text
A short message to be used when the status is displayed.
value (optional)
If specified, value will be used to set the current value of a statusbar indicator.
maxValue (optional)
If specified, maxValue will be used to set the maximum value of a statusbar indicator.
texture (optional)
If specified, texture will be used to display an image.

The GridFrame module implements several indicators:

Center Text
Displays the text of the status using the color.
Border
Displays the color of the status as a 2px border around the unit frame.
Health Bar
Sets the value of the health bar based on value and maxValue. Sets the color based on the color.
Healing Bar
Sets the value of the healing bar based on value and maxValue.
Four Corners (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right)
Displays the color of the status as a small box in the corner of the unit frame.
Center Icon
Displays the texture of the status as an icon in the center of the unit frame.
Frame Alpha
Sets the alpha (fade) of the frame based on the alpha of the color.

  • Awesome addon. I think more people would use it if you added a "Raid Simulation" layout so you could configure it without being in raid/party. Please consider it and keep up the great work!

Myself and another guild member had all the names on our Grid disappear. Even when we click enable we cannot get them to pop back up. Any suggestions, or is this a known bug?

  • I love grid and have had no problems except one. I use Grid in conjunction with Xpearl and when I disable the party UI for Xpearl the WoW UI takes it's place. Shouldn't grid take the Blizzard UI settings into its control and remove it? Otherwise I run Xpearls party UI and hid it under bartender.. help!

Just want to say this addon is amazing and a must have for me.

One question: Is there any way to add a focus frame to Grid or any plug in that will add a focus frame? I would like to be able to see all my hots on an NPC target in the way that I have them set in Grid but have not had any luck finding an option or plug in for a focus frame.

    Thanks.

Grid has added the ability of showing incoming heals on my Xperl unit frames. Is there a way to disable that?

  • Two things:

1.) Even though I have set my 25man raids to display 40 people, when I'm in a raid larger than 25, it stops showing at 25 people. How do I fix that?

2.) Is there a way to keep Grid from auto-alphabetizing the people in a raid? We looked through the menu and couldn't figure out how, but perhaps we just missed it.

I love to heal using Grid. I remember in a pretty old version there used to be an option to check called "click through grid" or something that allowed me to still hover my mouse over the grid frame and click both buttons and I would start to auto run. I loved this function because it allowed me to keep my mouse over the frame and still move out of bad stuff like volcanoes and fire etc. This same function allowed me to click buttons 4 and 5 on my mouse which were bound to macros. I've looked under every option and so far I can't find a way to achieve this with the latest version. Does anyone know if this is possible?
    Thanks!

If you lock the frame or hide the tab, you should be able to click through.

I have the frame locked and the tab hidden. Can I not have both checked? I still can't click through.

  • So this addon is a little piece of amazing except for one thing. When i go to select the texture for the actual bars where the names appear, the list is only so big, could you add a scroll bar here to work with GrizzlySharedMedia? It would be much appreciated as it destroys the consistent theme of bar styles in my custon UI. Many thanks for a great addon!

  • Still trying to figure out if there's a way to set Grid's alpha at something lower than 100% for targets within 10 yards. So far I'm only seeing that I'd be able to make alpha changes outside the various yard markers.

Is this a possibility at all or considered for future changes?

Hi, I'm experiencing an odd issue. On my priest regular (non-raid) debuffs do not show up on the center icon. On my paladin, who is using the same profile, they do show up. I'm confused at to what is causing this, any ideas?

P.S. Thank you for all the support you're doing here, I don't think I've ever seen an addon author that answers this many questions. :)

Actually it seems that Debuff type: magic/poison/curse/disease are completely nonfuntional on my priest, they don't work when set to a corner indicator either.
