  • About Get Off My Lawn!
  •

An ongoing project to remove annoyances from the game, primarily by filtering chat messages.

If you want to filter out things like duel messages, drinking spam, dual-spec skill spam, or certain exceptionally annoying NPCs, this addon is for you. If it doesn't block it, request it and I'll see what I can do!

Full list of blocking features:

  • Serenity Mute - Mutes the game audio while you have the Serenity buff on at the Wrathgate.
  • Arcanist Braedin - Blocks /yells from this NPC.
  • Ability Spam - Hides "You have (un)learned..." class and pet ability messages.
  • Duel Messages - Hides chat messages about duels.
  • Drinking Messages - Hides "Soandso looks tipsy..." etc.
  • Argent Tournament - Mutes various Tournament NPCs that chatter a lot
  • Emblem/Mark Loot - Hides Emblem, Shard, and Mark messages that aren't yours.
  • Popcap Games - Hides Peggle and Bejeweled guild messages.
  • Necrosis - Filter out all Necrosis addon speech (English only for now).
  • Deserter Agitator - Hide the chatter from this NPC in Theramore.
  • Raid Joins/Leaves - Condenses raid join/leave messages into blocks similar to Battlegrounds
  • General Raid Mute - Hides General chat when in a raid group outside of Wintergrasp.
  • Fail Mods - Hides "Soandso fails at suchandsuch" type raid messages.
  • Winter Time - Blocks guildchat messages from the WinterTime addon.
  • Auction House Messages - Blocks them while in a party/raid.
  • Trade Chat Filter - Filter out the junk from the Trade channel. Not recommended for non-English clients/servers.
  • Achievement Clustering - Want just a few lines of chat instead of 25 when your guild gets a new achievement? This is for you.
  • City Chatter - NPCs cluttering up your chatbox about buying their fresh baked bread? Not anymore!

  • Hi... Been using this mod a long time and I really love how clear my chatframe has been =P Everything works just fine... just curious on if you were planning to implement more of the city chatter suppression?

Also, one really annoying spam: if you use custom channels at all, anytime someone DCs, switches toons, or leaves the channel, you get a long string of:

    Player1 switched to moderator.
    Owner privledges given to Player1.
Player 2 has left the channel. (or something fairly close to that)

And heaven help you if 2-3 ppl log about the same time... SPAM!!!!

I'd like a way to totally supress it and have it just say: Player2 has left the channel.

Anyway, just a thought.. thanks for this mod and I hope you continue work on it soon.

Curious.. the description for the addon says:
    > City Chatter - NPCs cluttering up your chatbox about buying their fresh baked bread? Not anymore!

.. I have mostly everything selected, but I still get that chatter.

Human Commoner says: Where are all those wonderful winter hats coming from?

Janey Anship says: Putting in twelve centers of focus might allow the magical energies to form more solidly, adding the necessary stability.
Lisan Pierce says: But wouldn't that mean crossing the streams? Isn't that really bad?
Suzanne says: But if we stabilize it with an anchor thread at the appropriate energy crux then it should work.

William says: If you want her back you're gonna have to beg!
    Donna says: Gimme my dolly!!
William says: Ha ha! I have Betsy!
William says: Baby wants her dolly!
    Donna says: WAAAHHH!!!

Gil says: Are we there yet?

I wonder if there could be an npc chatter capture feature, where a history is kept (with the area/name) and the user is able to flag any of them for ignore.

Also, people could submit their log for your analysis and inclusion into future versions. Others could optionally use that log.. just dreaming a bit.

  • Another NPC to add to the annoying city chatter list:

Jaeren Sunsworn (flies into Dalaran and announces the argent tournament)

Also... the seasonal NPCs that annouce the holidays are quite annoying as well. The Human Commoner, Dwarf Commoner, Draenei Commoner, Gnome Commoner, Night Elf Commoner, ect.

  • Smiling Jim in Theramore is pretty annoying...think you could add him to the list?

Also, another idea for removing spammage: I saw an addon that grped up crafting spam. For example instead of seeing...

    You create: [Glyph of Blink].
    You create: [Glyph of Blink].
    You create: [Glyph of Blink].
    You create: [Glyph of Blink].

It instead waits until you are done crafting and the chat output is:

You create: [Glyph of Blink] x4.

Easy enough to throw Smiling Jim in there.

Crafting condensing sounds doable, but it'll take some time. I'll also have to handle special cases like when a JCer gets an exceptional cut, or an Alchemist procs extra creations, which'll further complicate things.

The addon is called Damn Craft Spam (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info14067-DamnCraftSpam.html). I've not seen any issues with it, I only wish it would tell me if I procced something when I'm making a large batch of elixirs/flasks, and how many time it procced.

  • I know about this addon.. I use it currently. But it's really kinda overkill to have all these single addons when there really should be one that handles all of these general anti-spammage events....hence why i suggested it to the author of this one.

A beta version of 1.3 is pending approval now. I haven't seen any bugs myself for about a week, but I've made pretty significant code changes so I didn't feel like tagging it as a full on release yet. The changes were all centered around Raid Joins/Leaves and Achievement Clustering, so if you get any errors try unchecking those boxes, and please let me know of course.

  • I like the idea of blocking AH spam but could you perhaps only have it enabled while in a party or raid? While soloing I wouldn't mind knowing I need to repost my expired auctions but in a grp it is just spam.

By achievement spam, do you mean clustering it together when a bunch of people get one simultaneously? I could look into doing that.

For the AH messages, I can do that, but as of right now it shouldn't block the expiry messages, only "A buyer has been found..." ones.

    Reply Report Permalink
  • Yes, that is exactly what I mean--clustering everyone that got the achievement together in 2-3 lines.

And for the other thing about the AH, getting rid of ALL AH spam while in party or raid would be a super nice feature as there really isn't much you can do about that kind of thing when your Raid Leader tells you to get your butt to TOC.... but it's nice to know about if you're soloing just doing dailies and such.

  • Oh, sorry, while I am thinking of it.. how about achievement spam? Shadowed makes a good stand-alone addon for that but having it incorporated into this addon not only makes sense since it is much like grping the join/leave raid fuction but it would eliminate having multiple addons for the same thing. It just seems like it is missing from this fine collection of anti-annoyance messages =P

For the next version, I've implemented a "City Chatter" option to mute various NPCs found in the cities that people might find annoying. However, I do not play a Horde character, so I have no real idea what annoying Horde NPCs there are.

All suggestions are welcome, but I'm especially looking to get some input on any spammy/annoying Horde NPCs you guys want filtered out. Feel free to drop a comment with the NPC's name, and I'll get it in the list.
