  • About Geist
  •

Geist provides a twenty-five button action bar that displays under the mouse cursor at a keypress for quick and convenient access.

How to use: Bind a key to Geist using the keybinding interface in the menu. Geist will display whenever that key is pressed with the mouse over the center button.

ButtonFacade support can be enabled with an optional addon.

Is it just me, or is this addon not working in the new patch (3.3.2)?

Hi, I love your addon, and theres just 1 little thing I want to know. Is there a way to hide the macro name of the buttons I place in geist. I tried using Bartender and Dominos to turn macro name, but could not do it.

    A bug I've found -
If Geist is on 25 buttons and I have a warrior then Geist is using the buttons for the Beserker bar.
An unavoidable overlap (as there are only 24 unused buttons for a warrior ) is that the Bottem Left Action Bar - button 12 is the same as bottom row central button of Geist

Ah looking at the comments below it appears the assignx slash command should fix this ... Never really understood what that was there for before this

Wonderful addon! Been using it a while, can't live without it :) Currently I'm experiencing a problem tho. Or two perhaps. One is that I cannot change the number of buttons. /geist buttons X still leaves me with my chosen number of buttons, 25. And I cannot remove any of the things I've added to the buttons. I can replace them, but not remove them... This seems to have happened after updating to 3.3. I don't get an error message either, things just don't happen. :P

Ah, I found that if I relog my char the number of buttons takes effect. Also if I go into Options>Interface>Game>ActionBars and uncheck Lock ActionBars I can remove stuff from Geist again :) Puuuh!

For your first issue, changing the number of buttons has always required a UI reload at the minimum. It has to do with how the buttons are created. The whole system I have in there is kind of kludgy, and has a lot to do with the fact that when I initially wrote it I had very little idea as to why it worked, just that it did.

As for the second part, if you want to leave action bars locked, you can hold the shift-button down and drag things around that way. It also works that way on the default bars. Far simpler for me to just obey a built in setting than to write my own version of it.

Great addon, works great once you found the good id's.

Was wondering if it is possible to ... have two different sets of bars? Basiclly have two geist running at the same time. Ex: 1 for Ports and they other one for Food.

It's possible in the sense that you can make a copy and then edit some of the names so that two copies of Geist could live in harmony, but it's not included by default. Part of the problem is in the IDs themselves. It was tricky enough to try to figure out 25 buttons to use, and most people probably don't have 50 free.

  • I saw in a previous post that someone had an issue with right click selfcasting using the addon. I tried to use the fix you recommended, but was unable to find the line. Is there anyway to make buttons on Geist compatible with right click self casting?

Sorry for the delay in the reply. The method does still work, I just changed the temporary button name while messing with it one day.

Search for "Assign button ids" in GeistFrame.lua (line 64) and add
    button:SetAttribute("unit2", "player")
after that line. Should work fine after that.

I have bound geist to a key as stated here, but when i release the key the geist buttons are still there and I can't get them off screen no matter what I try.
How do I get them to not display?

It's possible you may have the toggle mode turned on. Type "/geist toggle" (with the window closed) and try it again.

Or to put it another way: Read the ******* manual.

If only there were some sort of instructions on how to keybind listed within the addon description above, some sort of guide that the ability to read would uncover...

"How to use: Bind a key to Geist using the keybinding interface in the menu. Geist will display whenever that key is pressed with the mouse over the center button."

does that uses any button bar which is already in game or does it creates a new bar. i mean i am using all the available bars in game already (i am a druid with dual spec so you imagine :)) and i need more but i dont like other addons because they are using the bar which is already i am using....

This one uses existing bars. If you have any buttons free, you can change the id of the Geist buttons to suit your needs, but you will need at least some free to use the addon.
