  • About Gatherer
  •

Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on you minimap.

When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations marked on the particular map you are viewing there.

For more information, please visit us at http://www.gathereraddon.com/

USAGE:

Just use the game as normal. When you gather things, they will appear on your minimap and your main map. If you want to configure the addon, click the Gatherer configuration icon floating around your minimap frame or type /gather options.

CONTRIBUTING:

Gatherer is an open source project, and is built upon the donations and the support of the community.

    Ryuu_casahara,

Really hard to say... the fact that it works sometimes and not others is a bit curious.

Is this on/off happening on one character or different ones?
Do you have any AddOns installed that can affect others, such as "AddOn Control Panel" or AddOn Loader?
Do you see any sort of errors during the game sessions? Even if not Gatherer-specific, some issues can cascade and cause issues with other AddOns.

With that sort of information, we may be able to help, so let us know.

    Happy Gatherering,

  • Been trying to find the wowhead database for gatherer, and it seems to be gone. Is it going to be re added or is it gone for good?

    Thelastspecies,

You can download and install the GathererDB_Wowhead AddOn, which will provide a pre-filled database that you obtain by installing the AddOn as usual and then importing the data. See the download page on WoWInterface, at http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info11707-GathererDBWoWHead.html .

Addon is working great, everything works the way it should. However, I notice when I add the "Heat" trails to the HUD, it kills my frame rates, I go from 200+ down to the 50's with a noticeable choppiness. As soon as I disable them, my FPS jumps back up to where it should be. Why do such small little dots cause a major frame rate drop and is there anything I can do to alleviate that?

Actually, just having the HUD enabled is what causes the major FPS drop, the Heat trails only add to the problem. Certainly not game-killing but annoying none the less.

    Thanks.

    Mordemox,

The HUD is another set of items for your video card to render, but that is quite a drop.

About the only thing you can do is to try lowering the number of items shown, a bit. The HUD is a child frame of the minimap, so you could limit them there or from the HUD options.

Just curious what type of hardware you have, as in processor and video card. Not that it will really help us that much, but it will be good to know for later, should someone else run into the issue.

    Belch1991,

The GathererDB_Wowhead is a separate AddOn, which provides a pre-filled database that you obtain by installing the AddOn as usual and then importing the data.

See the download page on WoWInterface, at http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info11707-GathererDBWoWHead.html .

Since I started using this addon yesterday, nodes doesn't respawn. The markings/tags/whatever are there, but the nodes aren't. I know they don't respawn on the exact same spot, but I can't even find them with "find minerals" nor "find treasure". I really want to continue with my mining. Is there any way I can fix this?

    Hittebarn,

Gatherer simply records the location where you found a gatherable item. All of the nodes spawn randomly, according to an algorithm known to Blizzard.

So, why bother, you ask? Simply because they will respawn at the previous location, so knowing where they will pop up helps to devise trails to be able to grab the items when they appear. You should leave "find minerals" on, that will alert you, via the yellow dot, when one of the nodes actually has spawned.

    Hope that clears things up.

    Hello,
with one of the recent updates to wow, I have an odd bug with gatherer. Keep in mind this is also on a completely clean install (new comp).
I get transparencies of the items on the map, spread over my basic desktop in game, NOT in map mode, so as im running along, I see transparent mining nodes and treasure chests, etc.
    Any ideas on this?

    Baalverzi,

That is that is the Gatherer_HUD or Heads Up Display.

To disable, move, et cetera, simply go into the options and modify to your liking.

hi, is there any chance that you could make this addon to play a sound when nodes pop-up on the minimap so that one doesnt have to look at the minimap all the time :)

    pka0419,

The existence of the "yellow dot", meaning an active node, is a protected function, and, as such, is impossible to note from within the framework authorized by Blizzard.

I've been having a few problems since 3.3. Gatherer still works (kinda) as long as I enable out-of-date addons, but if I open the world map while Gatherer is enabled, I don't get the little yellow "ping" showing where I am in the zone (I've tested it by disabling and enabling addons, and I know it's Gatherer), and more importantly, the preferences seem to spontaneously erase themselves on my herbalist druid. It seems every time I log in, I have to re-import the Wowhead DB, and it hasn't even saved the nodes I KNOW I've gathered.

I hope to see an update for 3.3 soon. I expect the problems I'm seeing are just little incompatibilities with the code, or something.

    Sadachbia,

That is a known issue, and something we are looking into, although the main developer has been extremely busy with r/l things, so it is very low on the priority list.

As you say, Gatherer works fine with 3.3, all you need to do is ensure that Load Out of Date is checked in the main WoW AddOns Control Panel.

You should *not* have to re-import the database each time. Check the permissions on the entire ..\WorldofWarcraft\WTF directory, subfolders, and files and ensure that your logged-in account has full read/write access and that none are marked as Read Only.

Hey, I love that little addon very much! As I am a miner and with my other char a herbalist it is so useful for me! And now there is no need anymore to remember in brain or to notice all the places where the good things are to find^^

Thank you very much to the author(s), you´re genius!!

I would really appreciate if there was a way to share existing nodes to another database or at least an import feature since I use 2 different machines and one has different nodes than the other. I refrain from using the wowhead one since it contains a lot of out-of-date date of nodes that were removed from the game and I would rather save time than flying over parts of the map where nodes are no longer present.
