  • About ForgottenChat
  •

Forgotten Chat is designed to replace the default Warcraft whisper system with something a little more personal and intuitive.

Forgotten Chat was conceived, designed and implemented with one purpose. To provide an MSN-like environment within the World of Warcraft and replace its overly clunky method of whispering in WoW. With ForgottenChat, each individual incoming whisper is sent to its own portable frame or 'widget' depending on the person who sent it. Up to 12 widgets can be in use at any given time (12 conversations with 12 differant people) and they can all be minimized, moved, and closed independantly of each other. ForgottenChat also records the current gaming sessions whispers for each person you communicate with, allowing easy scanning of conversation histories.

This project started as a personal test of programming skills and program design, and has continued to expand thanks to all the people who sent me comments and suggestions on how to improve or fix the latest versions. Keep up the good work!

Would love if someone could take over FC and make an fan edition of it.
I currently use WIM, and it works. But its not the same as FC.
I would do it myself it I had the skills, but I'm afraid I dont have it at all.

If anyone would do this, I wish you the best of luck from Norway.

    sincerely,
    Dag Magnus

Amazing addon once I figured out how to click loot and invite to group. This is exactly what I was looking for to get pick up raids together. Thank you!

  • The big "Download" button will now download a stable version of the addon that includes fixes for:

    - /fc enable|disable is working
    - Adding item links to the edit boxes
    - Filters whispers from appearing in your default chat frames
    - Icon textures are now properly displaying again
    - Several other minor bugs were resolved
    - Mod is considered Up To Date.

For those of you who were familiar with ForgottenChat before I abandoned you all, the functionality should now once again be functional to the same level as it used to be.

I may attempt to bring back Channels in some form, but that will be on the horizon. There are also a few bugs with the log frame not being able to perform a search which will also get fixed soonish. I would also like to see if I can get some alternate skins for the widgets.

Thank you for your continued interest, please spread the word if you enjoy this mod, the download numbers mean I'm a cool person ;)

  • Oh wow... It's sooo good to see the mod back. I've been using WIM in the intrum but It's a bit flashy and overcomplicated. So happy to have FC back and working!

  • I have finally managed to take a look at my old code and update some of the basic functionality that has been broken for the last two years. There are still some glaring bugs in the code such as not being able to link items still, not catching or hiding whispers automatically, and broken button graphics.

This is essentially early alpha code but it should be functional at its most basic level. I will try to pick away at this a little more over the next couple weeks.

    1. When are you going to update this addon?
    2. I also often have the problem that I can't move the widget if it's too high. Please put the function to reset the widgets back in the addon.
    3. Would also love to have a way to report a spammer. Currently I am using another addon to capture spams before they reach me, but would love to have as few addons as possible.
    4. Other than that great addon, couldn't play WoW without it anymore.

What do you do when you drag a window to high on the screen and then can't move it again? I tried to run /fc and /fc options, but nothing to reset the posistion of the windows?

When are you going to update this for the latest patch (2.1)? It says it's out of date.

Is it possible to add the Report Spam feature to the widgets? I can't find any way to report the gold spammers because the message does not appear in the chat log.

  • Version 3.2 is UP and as far as Im aware works well enough. You may notice some features that were removed with the changes from WoW 1.0 to BC. Below are all the changes I can remember making for this release:

    - Updated to current release version - Fixed widget combat hide/minimize - Enabled linking from: Quest Log, Inspect, Trade, Sockets, Loot, Loot Roll Box, AH, Tradeskills, Bank, Bags, Character Sheet and Vendors. - Fixed channel combat minimize/maximize - Added some key bindings, including: Reply, Minimize All, Maximize All, Close All, Enable/Disable - Re-introduced certain action buttons including: Group Invite, /who and Ignore. - Re-introduced the scroll buttons. - The ability to hide the widget anchor while it is in use has been added. - AFK messages will be caught and displayed on the appropriate widget. - Fixed some minor bugs. - Added some new default blacklist entries

Some of the action buttons (Target, Trade, Inspect) are still missing since Blizzard made it nearly impossible to automate targeting, and inspect/trade have no means to initiate them with only the name of the person. I will take a look at re-implementing these at a later date.

I am aware that I am still missing a good many features that I have promised you all.

Actually it seems Blizzard's default system doesn't work.

You see, I always move the widgets to the right edge of my screen, between the action bars and minimap but sometimes when I log in and get a whiper it either doesn't display the widget at all (maybe it's trying to place it offscreen?) or it gets placed in the center of the screen. (as if resetted) If it doesn't display then I can fix it by resetting the widget placement and after that being whispered or whispering someone makes the widget appear properly. (at the center of the screen, since I had to reset the position)

I'm 100% sure that a whisper message was recieved, because after resetting the widget and re-whispering the sender the message I should've gotten is present and visible in the widget, marked as grey text. (saved history)

Anyway, the ability tohide the anchor was just what I was waiting for, can't wait for the release.

  • Not forgotten. Neglected.

Hopefully I can release a new patch this weekend but once again, finals are coming up. (why do I always pick this project up during finals week?)

Heres what you can *hope* to see coming up:

(CHECK) Updated .toc (no more "Out of Date" addon (CHECK) Combat Hide/Minimize for CORE (CHECK) Linking From Bags, Paper Doll, Merchants, Tradeskills, Bank, Inspect, Sockets, AH, Quest Rewards, Trade, Loot, Loot RollBox (CHECK) Added some key-bindings back in (CHECK) Combat Minimize/Maximize for CHANNELS () Linking items from the Default Chat Frames, Mailbox () Invite/Ignore buttons added back in (CHECK) Scroll up/down arrows added back in (CHECK) ability to Hide the anchor while it is in use (CHECK) AFK Detection

Those are the ones that have been bugging me lately, so the ones marked with (CHECK) are already implemented in my local version, and I will work on the unchecked ones within the next couple days.

As to Sanderke's comment on widget placement, I do not consider the position of any of the widgets, instead blizzard's default system records where EVERY frame is when you log off and will put them back when you log back in. This is so they can handle resolution changes etc on their own without breaking things.
