FlightHUD

Displays a fully configurable fighter jet style Heads Up Display (HUD) while flying or riding.

Features:

  • Shows your current heading in degrees as text and as a graphic with cardinal points relative to the mimimap.
  • Shows the true pitch of your character. This is no longer a hack, as patch 3.0.2 added GetPlayerPitch(), an API call that returns a character's true pitch. Before patch 3.0.2, the camera pitch was used, and the pitch display was not accurate unless you always kept your camera behind your character.
  • Shows map coordinates.
  • Shows your true speed, horizontal speed, or both, as a percentage, where a normally running character is 100%, or as yards per second, or both.
  • Configurable transparency of the text and graphics.
  • Configurable transparency of the background.
  • Configurable size of the text.
  • Configurable size of the pitch graphic.
  • Configurable frame size.
  • Movable frame. Hold control while hovering the mouse over the frame and left click drag to move it.
  • Waypoints. (Configurable Alt/Shift/Ctrl/Combination)-rightclick on the map to add a waypoint. Multiple waypoints are supported. Waypoints appear in the HUD and float as you pan. Each point shows the distance and bearing to the point, plus an ETA if you're moving.
  • Waypoints can now be made persistent and configured to show only in the zones they're created in.
  • Waypoints can be deleted by right clicking on them in the world map or mimi map.
  • QuestHelper integration: See the default QuestHelper quest as a persistent waypoint.
  • Blizzard POI (Point of Interest) integration: (modifier)-click a POI on the map to set it, and subsequently unset it, as a waypoint. The modifier can be set in the config.

TODO:

  • Editable, movable waypoints.
  • Add an interface to manage waypoints. (Can't delete a POI waypoint when it no longer appears on the map)
  • HUD frame skins to make it look like a real fighter HUD.
  • Configurable locations of text and graphics within the parent frame. Perhaps at some point make them detachable.

Known bugs:

  • This code is perfect, of course!

Reporting bugs:

  • Please post bug reports here. While I monitor the comments on curse.com, it makes my life easier if bugs are reported in the wowace bug tracker.

This addon is causing me serious, serious lag in 25 man raids. Can we have an option to disable it inside of instances?

Barfolomeu, thank you for FlightHUD and all your hard work. I consider your addon an essential one. Happy New Year!

I can't seem to move the frame. If I hover over the frame and press control, then left click, I move the camera, not FHUD! I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8
    Thanks for FlightHUD!

You need to unlock the frame in the config. Either do:

    /fh -> General
    or
    Escape -> Interface -> Addons -> FlightHUD -> General

and uncheck "lock". You can now move the HUD.

FlightHUD turns off when your mount is in reindeer form. I had to do "Bomb Them Again" in regular flight form to get the HUD, then turn into a reindeer just before turning it in.

I've actually been aware of this problem since last Winter Veil. I've added the support for that and the Dragonmaw Nether Drake (which was reported in another ticket that I never got back to) in version 0.9.6-beta, which should be up soon.

Thanks Bar for the fix!, I have also found out that this works while flying inverted, which I think is really neat! holding down the "up" arrow key and using the "insert" and "delete" keys will allow you to do loops and fly inverted, just in case anyone wanted to know...

I love this add-on, but I am not sure if I have it set up correctly, in your screenshot, "coming for a landing" I see your pitch as about 11 degrees nose-down, but I get no pitch info on any of my mounts, would you have any idea why this might be? I am going to be trying it with all other add-ons turned off, and see if something is intercepting the pitch info coming in...

okies, I figured it out, I am stoopid, lolz!!! I don't normally use the right mouse button while flying, and when I did, it lined up on my sightline as it should, one thing I did notice, was that when pitched nose down, the left pitch numbers are positive, and when nose up, they are negative, reverse of what an in cockpit Atitude Director Indicator would read, or a pitchball... is there somewhere in the file I could edit to reverse that???

Seems I missed this post a while back. Sorry.

I actually did some research on this, and I could have sworn the pitch indicator was correct! Not sure when this reverted (I'm pretty sure it was accurate once). Good catch!

Regarding how you fly...boggle...while I knew that it was possible to "go" up and down with key binds, these don't change the player's actual pitch. How can you fly like this though!? :)

Just about every element of the addon can be shown/hidden. Check the config by typing /fh, which leads to the same place as Escape -> Interface -> Addons -> FlightHUD, then go to "Show Events", and check the "When to show pitch" setting. If changing that setting doesn't work, just go to the "Reset" option and try "Reset all settings". Let me know if any of those work.

HUD doesn't show when riding a Flying Reindeer.

Yeah, it's bound to happen. One of the disclaimers in the description is that some mounts might be missing. I'll fix this when I get a chance. Been pretty busy lately.

Awesome addon! I think the waypoints are not working correctly though. When I shift-click on the world map it simple zooms out.
