This is a very tiny, light-weight addon with a single purpose: answering the question "Where in my bags did that item go to?" To use it simply alt-click an item link in the chat window or type the command "/find name". Any bags, including the key-ring, containing matching items will open if needed and the icons for those items will briefly flash to show you where they are. In addition, if you are at the bank your bank bags will be searched as well.

Use the alt-click feature to find items that you just auto-looted or received in the mail. It's handy for things like disenchanting trash greens that you just picked up or stacking items mailed to a mule at the bank. The /find command is a case-insensitive substring search so just a few quick letters usually suffice. For example, typing "/find dus" should show you all stacks of Arcane Dust, Illusion Dust, etc.

Note that this addon expects the standard Blizzard bag interface and thus is likely to be incompatible with bag UI replacements.

Enjoy!

I'm a long time user of this excellent addon, and I have recently installed Bagnon, an addon that FlashFind conflicts with.

Currently, FlashFind conflicts with Bagnon whenever FlashFind is called. It brings up a weird frame under the Bagnon inventory frame with a streched icon and it makes a bag disappear from Bagnon's frame. It also will sometimes prevent Bagnon from updating until the (now out of date) frame is closed and reopened.

I'm not asking you to fix any issues brought on by Bagnon, merely letting you know of them, and if it's a bug with FlashFind hopefully it helps track it down.

  • And if people don't want an all-in-one inv. addon? Useless post, good addon!

Yes, I've found that it works great with oGlow too :)

    About Links.
There's nothing to do about it on your end...
you're already running after the game by securehooking.
Links is before you in the hook chain and doesn't return the hook.

It was easy enough to modify Links so that both addons work at the same time.
I'll post on the wowace forums and see if the author would be kind enough to modify the official version.

Edit: I've posted about it on the wowace forums.
You can find the changes I did to Links there if you want to patch your local copy , until author responds or offers another solution.

Jerry (author of Links) had this to say:

If the addon has Links as an Optional Dependency,
then Links will load before the addon,
and thus the addon will hook Links's SetItemRef
and you will get both addon's functionality.

If that's the case all you need to do to ensure compatibility is add a
    ## OptionalDeps: Links
    line to your FlashFind.toc file.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! However, the good folks of the UI & Macro forum definitely deserve credit for alerting me to the existence of secure hooks.

I just tested it with addons that you mentioned. FlashFind and oGlow played together flawlessly for me. From your description, I'd thought it most likely that Links and FlashFind would simply trigger together. What I found in practice, however, was that Links just silently disables FlashFind's alt-click invocation.

    Excellent idea.
Props for securehooking setitemref too, minimal or non-existent chance for conflicts with other addons.

Now only need to check if it flashing inventory slots plays nice with oGlow.

Adding to favs and will be back to rate it up after I've used it some :)
    Thanks for sharing.

I think the Alt+click search on links might collide with Links addon (uses Alt+click to open multiple item tooltips)
I'll get back to you on that.
Don't have a better modifier to suggest, there's bound to be some other addon out there that uses Ctrl or whatnot...

As well as Postal, Auctioneer & others, alt-click is also used with oApplication, Tekkub's DayTrader and so on.

How about providing an option (command line) for completely disabling the alt-click functionality of this? Just in case there is an issue with other mods that also use alt-click, now or in the future. No need to be annoying when you don't have to be ;).

I don't use Postal or AltClickToAddItem. But I've had no trouble using it together with Auctioneer.

The new alt-click functionality is also implemented via securehook, so it shouldn't break any other add-ons. At worst, I think that either other add-ons may silently break this new feature of FlashFind or else an alt-click in some contexts will simply activate both. That might be annoying, but it should be harmless.

Alt+click on bag items is used by very popular mods
    (eg. Auctioneer, Postal and others)
for functionality like quick-posting of auctions, or quick-mailing etc

Is Flashfind working along-side those mods?
