this DOES still work with 3.3, put all 3 files in the Data/Sound/Spells directory as stated above!

Does WoW only play custom sound files that are one second in length?

Cus I made one and it's five sec long, but won't play in WoW.

3.3 this doesn't work at all. Using windows xp sp3, copied "Sound" to "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data". No change in in-game sounds whatsoever.

Windows Vista takes a certain amount of control over where files are placed in the folder structure. Where Windows XP placed them under the "Programs" folder as God intended, Vista attempts to foil hacking attempts by selecting alternate folders.

In my setup, Vista placed my World of Warcraft "Data" folder here:
    C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Data

So you would want to navigate to the "Data" folder and unzip FishPing. To get there, open the computer icon on your desktop (or the "Computer" link on your start menu) and double click your "C" drive. Find the folder "Users" and double click it. Find the folder "Public" and double click it. Find the folder "Games" and double click it. Find the folder "World of Warcraft" and double click it. Find the folder "Data" and double click it. Now place the zip file in that folder and unzip it.

I've had to explain this to some of the users of my addon (Core Hound Lava Sound Quieter) who use Vista. Good luck with it.

I am currently using 3.3.0(11159), and my root WoW directory does not have a Data/Sound/Spells/ directory. I created it, but WoW still does not appear to be playing the correct sounds (the ones I placed in that directory). Has there been a change to the WoW directory structure that would necessitate that these sound files be placed in a different directory?

well i have good news and bad news.

good news is i found the new location for fishping. it is 1 directory up from where it was, and renamed. so it's now in:

    Sound\Spells\FishingBobber_ver2_1.wav

    there are 3 files though.
    FishingBobber_ver2_1.wav
    FishingBobber_ver2_2.wav
    FishingBobber_ver2_3.wav

i created all 3 because i was in a hurry and i didnt know for sure which one was the new one. this fix DOES work. Just copy the old wav file 1 directory up and rename it.

the bad news though is you can now hear sewer fishing from the streets of dalaran. so pretty much anywhere on the street is a constant barrage of the fish ping noise. especially when the new fishing daily is sewers, like it is today. it is quite annoying.

but, you hear that even without fixing the sound. it's just more prominent.

had time to do some testing. you do need to replace all 3 wav files or you will only hear it sometimes. i was hoping 1 would be self, and the others were for other people. but that appears to not be the case.

all 3 wav files? What three files are you talking about? because when I paste fishping into the date folder theres only one wav file there...

i'm not the addon author. if you download the current link and install it to the location specified in the directions it wont work. patch 3.1 broke it.

in order to get it to work, look at my previous post. find the new location. make 3 copies of the wav file you downloaded into that location, and rename them to the 3 filenames i listed. it will then work.
