  • About Extra Bars
  •

Overview

Adds 4 extra action bars designed to work and look like the standard action bars. These bars are intended to complement your existing UI.

Features

  • 4 additional action bars are added which allow upto 12 buttons per bar
  • Designed to be quick and easy to configure
  • Does not change or alter the standard action bars in the game
  • Bars can be dragged anywhere on screen and orientated horizontally or vertically
  • Non actions can be dragged to the bar to allow counts of items
  • Should also be compatible with Bartender, Dominos, macaroon, etc...

Upcoming in v0.8

  • / command's for configuration
  • Option to fully hide faded gui control
  • 'Conditionals' for bar visibility (will allow bar to be shown/hidden during combat etc)
  • / command to change the strata level of each bar (controls if the bar will appear above or below other gui elements)

Instructions

  • These buttons work with the standard drag and drop of actions
  • A faint icon can be found at the top right corner of each bar, clicking this will provide some quick graphical options to configure the bar including a shortcut button to the bars configuration page
  • To change configuration settings go to the Interface->Addons->Extra Bar menu option
  • To bind keys to the buttons go to the 'Extra Bar' section of 'Key Bindings'

Known Issues

  • Macros with identical names may be switched around on the bar
  • Critters and Mounts do not darken if they cannot be used
  • Some spells/abilities may not have a fully updated display on the button (e.g. Hunter Aspects only ever show the skill icon, they don't change to a wisp icon when active)

Feedback

I appreciate feedback and comments you have. Free time to work on this addon is tight, but I will try to put priority behind any significant issues that crop up provided I can confirm them.

Just a heads up, I was on the 3.3 PTR and this mod is completely broken on it. AlternateButtonTemplate is seizuring like crazy with errors and as a result I am DREADING 3.3's release. Without Extra Bars mod I'll be stranded and lost as though I were wandering a vast, endless desert...

I just got Bronze Drake and I put it on the bar and I can't mount ...

  • I obtained a Bronze Drake a little while ago - I've had a look at it, and have identified why it wont summon (mismatch between its name, and its spellname) - I should be able to include a fix for this in the next release.

  • I am hoping that this will help me. I am looking for substitutes for my Zhunter mob, which has been abandoned by it’s author. It appears that this my replace the extra actions bars that mod had. Blizzard just didn’t give hunters enough bars to deal with all the aspects, traps, shots, and pet care they need to do. It looks like this will at least replace, that part of that add-on as I hate Bartender. which messes up the existing UI. Now I just need to find replacements for the rest of Zhunter.

  • I liked this one a lot, as it enabled me (with some work) to use the space added by going from a regular monitor to a wide-screen. (I also used a mod to get rid of the gryphons.)

Unfortunately, poatch 3.2.2 came along and ruined everything. All of the actionbar addons were broken, so it isn't you in particular, but it's still something that should be addressed.

It appears that all preferences are lost when the cache file is remade, or for some other reason between patches. Yes, I was careful to enable all "out of date" addons. It still reverts to the 10-button, lower-right, horizontal layout, and all skills on the buttons are erased.

I have about 20 charas, 10 of which might be considered mains, and I really want a consistent interface between them. So while I could go through the process of editing, moving, and restocking one chara's Extra Bars, twenty is just too much. Please consider improving the reliability of your addon, and perhaps a way to copy the layouts between charas. In the meantime, I'll have to disable it.

  • Thanks for the feedback and suggestions everyone.

I've found it hard to find time to make progress on this addon lately; but have noticed that several features are repeatedly being requested so will focus v0.8 on getting these features implemented:

    - / command support
    - Make it possible to fully hide the faded gui control via a toggle
    - Add the ability to toggle bar display based on conditionals (this would allow hiding/showing the bar during combat as an example)
    - allow changing the strata level of the bars via a / command (controls if the bar will appear above or below other gui elements)

I have a request for this addon.

Is it possible you can option to HIDE the bars that you don't want to see? Not completely disable them, but just make them invisible and still functional with bound hotkeys.

The reason for this is I use a number of macros to do things that I don't need to see on my action bars, such as /highfive, /cancelaura x, /cleartarget, and commands for other addons.

As it stands I have to drag the bars I don' want to see underneath the default action bar then shrink them to the smallest size and 1 button wide so they're hidden.

If you could make this an option so I could just toggle them hidden/unhidden but still hotkey-usable I would never ever stop using this addon.

Could use a way to hide all the bars at once
Something like a /script macro, so i can put it on my action bar?

This is an awesome add on. There is only one feature I'd love to see added. The ability to make a bar only appear when you are in combat.

    Great work!

Hi great add-on just what I was looking for as needed more bar space, only one thing I have noticed so far I use a few macros with /castsequence and leave the icon blank so that it changes to the icon of the current spell in the sequence but when I run the macro from one of the extra bar slots it just keeps the first icon and does not change through the sequence it shows the correct cooldowns just not the icon is there anything that can be done? other than that thanks for a great add-on.

  • Hi killernally24,

Unfortunately I don't have that specific mount to test against, but have checked with a different flying mount and found it to work.

Could I ask you to check off a few things:
Extra Bars on your system is v0.7.3?
If you drag the mount from your mounts tab onto the extra bar again will it start to work?
Will the mount activate if triggered from the standard action bars?

Unfortunately Extra Bars is not currently able to darken the mount icon to give a visual que that it is currently not available (due to combat/dalaran... etc)

  • PLEASE FIX. When i put (Bronze Drake) on one of the extra addon bars. it dosent work at all, what i mean by it dosent work is that when i click it to mount on it it simply dosent do anything. This is the only bug i have noticed please fix.

Meant of course only a profile that saves the layout of the buttons, how much, where positioned and not the associated items/buffs etc

    Reply Report Permalink
  • Hi Sandmahn,

If I follow correctly, you are referring to the fact that Extra Bars does not internally remember the bars position (it instead allows Blizzard's default system to track positioning)?

Thx for the addon, it is simple and great. Only one wish, as I encounter all the time some bugs with 3.2 and Blizzard always wants that I clean WTF, Interface and Cache folders:

Is it possible to include in future versions profiles, so I can save the setup for my bars and simply load the profile in other chars? Having many chars this always results in repeating efforts to configure the bars for each char.

  • First let me say thank you for a job well done on this add-on. After trying several other bar add-ons (like bartender) I was left wanting a sleeker, simpler add-on that just let me tack on a few extra bars that looked and felt like Blizzard's standard bars. Yours does that and so much more in a way that puts those others to shame.

I do, however, have one nit-pick. 99% of the time your add-on does exactly what I want it to, but there are a few quests (like this one, for example: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=11984) that give you a temporary pet. When the pet's control panel pops up, it is hidden behind the extra bar (assuming I have it stacked on top of the default bars where I like them to be). Is there any way to prevent this conflict? Perhaps to have the pet bar appear over the extra bar, or maybe have the extra bar slide up when a new blizzard bar appears under it? I've tried leaving space for these bars, but it looks bad and if you're a clicker that extra 1/8 inch of travel to get to your extra bar and back eats into your efficiency. Which leaves me manually dragging it out of the way each time I pick up one of these quests and restoring it afterward. Your add-on is good enough that I'm content living with these work-arounds if I have to, but it'd be really nice to have an automated solution. I'm half-hoping there's a setting that I missed.

At any rate, thanks again for taking the time to make this great add-on. (P.S. If I haven't made the nature of the problem clear please let me know and I'll try to explain it better.)

I use "bar:SetFrameStrata("LOW")" in function "InitBar" to avoid similar problems.
Maybe it can work also in this case. Just an idea... :)

  • I do know what you mean with the occasional pet bar popping up - there is no setting governing this at the moment, beyond the unlock and shift of the bar. But I'll keep this in mind for a possible future feature (I'll double check to see if there is something to make sure that the pet bar will be displayed over the extra bar if they occupy the same location on screen though).

P.S thanks for the comments :)

  • Thank you for the prompt reply. Not sure whether it was you or something about the way Blizzard handled it, but the mod seems to be popping up the pet bar in the right place since the patch. Either way, thanks again for the great mod.

  • v0.7.2 has been uploaded:
It corrects an issue with item stacks, and in rare cases enchanted items not triggering
Spells should now update their usability more reliably
And the mod will now reflect wow v3.2 compliance.

There is still the outstanding issue of spell icons not changing to a wisp - at this stage I will be leaving this issue till a later date.
