Ephemeral

So, anyone know if the Gryphonheart is actually as good as ephemeral and most important for me, can it make books? And as a last note, anyone working on ephemeral anymore?

Does this still work with 3.0?

For some reason my one does not have a create menu. I click the button for it and it shows me an error window, I do it again and it does nothing.

This is because of some of the LUA changes in WoW 3.0.2. I've not given up trying to fix this addon myself. Here's where it stands at the moment:

- The main menus have been replaced with better looking buttons instead of tabs
- The errors from trying to open Create, Explore or Options menus have been fixed
- The menus themselves are still under repair.
-Create and the WILL open the drop menu, but I still cannot get text to show, so you see a blank menu. It functions, but you have to guess which option does which, lol.
-Explore and Options will open the windows, but the main menus are still non-functional. Right-clicking an item in the explore window will open the drop menu for available options, but like Create, it's still invisible.

I appologise for the length of time it's taking me to try and get this working properly again, but I'm still learning as I do this. At least progress is being made =P

Okay, more or less, here's what's wrong with Ephemeral (at least from what I experienced).

Ephemeral uses the base menu templates programmed into WoW. In 3.0, how these templates are handled or called for was changed in some way (still looking into it). Because all errors I get are related to the menus.

I have some experience with Ephemeral's menu system, as I've changed the style in the past to make the main menu tabs into buttons within the main backpack. It worked great until 3.0, lol.

Anyway, my new menus, nor the default ones work anymore. I -AM- looking into a way to fix them and get Ephemeral functional again. So far, I have the menus functional, but cannot seem to get text to show on the menus. So unless you by heart know where each option lies, you're clicking blind.

If I can get the menus 100% again, I will post a new version of Ephemeral up on Curse. But I am relatively inexperienced with LUA and XML, so I can't make any promises on how long it will take. So for all I know (and hope, lol), someone else will beat me to the punch. =P

Sadly, unless Ephemeral is maintained elsewhere I don't know about it, it hasn't been updated for 3.0, and does not work right. I can open Ephemeral and use things, but I cannot open any menus or transcribe

Hope to see Ephemeral updated soon. Let's hope it doesn't get killed for another year because of a huge patch, like when the 2.0 patch killed it last time, hehe.

I've done my own work with Ephemeral, adding the vast number of unused icons and redoing the main options layout, but I'm far from skilled enough to update this for 3.0.2 =(

OMG! This makes me so happy! I've always wondered why nobody continued it, so it's so great to see that there's being worked on. As Sophonax said, you'll really be a god! 0_o

Fantastic news! Ephemeral is my favorite add on, but I had to disable it eventually because it started falling apart and interfered with other add ons.

Last comment seems to be 2 weeks ago, but I hope the author is still on it. To tell you the truth, I too tried to resurrect it once, but found the code to be overwhelming. Then I tried to make something new from scratch, but the amount of work required was overwhelming as well. I wish you good luck, and I hope I can help too if I find the time.

Also, seconding on switching over to the Blizzard communication system. Of course it will mean that only people on the same guild/raid/group will be able to trade items, but it will solve all compatibility problems, and it isn't that hard to invite someone to your group before trading something.

Ephemeral interferes with Forgotten's Chat System. I'm not sure which part, but when Ephemeral is active Forgotten window's still open for whisper sessions, but also appear in the main chat window, and even if I disable whispers in the main window they still appear. If I disable Ephemeral, Forgotten goes back to working normally. I also have Lore installed, and I have the Ephemeral patch from Lore. If this is a known issue any ideas on a fix is welcome, if I'm the first to report it, what else do you need to know?

Awesome addon! Book writing and other stuff is great. Bad, that not all features are working though. Containers are not opened by right clicking on then - instead it shows an lua error. Also <shift> + right click open interaction menu on objects, but not all things work there. What "Stash" supposed to do? And is it possible to post objects to chat?

Anyway, continue your work and you'll have all the kudos from RP society. This mod really can change the things!

Well, if you highlight an item and right click on the bag it will put the item in the bag, (in a sense of designating a target and then activating the function, the pattern that this mod follows) but i am still unsure of how to open the bags and containers (or if it was even a part of the function) and likewise getting the instruments to work as macro instaid of /s "x" and even where to begin with the props and their "actions", but once the addon is functional for what is nessicary we can find the creative nuances on how to make it work properly, i'd love to write up a guide to the use of the mod, it'd be something for me to do and something for me to contribute to this effort, this mod with MyQuests will completly change gameplay for me and give me something that blizzard hasnt.

keep us up to date, and if anyone has used ephemeral in the previous working state that can digg up those memories, let us know here so i can compile everything into a step by step guide on the use of ephemeral.

i just tested this, and it is broken now (this was written 10-27-05 by Tibero). also, according to the code, the containers SHOULD be able to open, if we can figure out whare its broken and how to do it.

So stupid questions ahead: Are the containers and keys working? if so, how do i work them lol :D

if not, i can understand that, im just hoping that its not my computer trying to spoil my good time, but currently i can make bags and keys, but cannot associate them to eachother, open the bag, lock or unlock it with the key, put things in the bag, etc. just wondering if its supposed to be working or im just an idiot and cant figure it out. also, on the instruments it wont allow you to use them properly (say i type in "/yell boo!" and click on it, it will then SAY "/yell boo!" as normal,

perhaps im just looking for a simple instruction guide to using it (still aware that it is unfinished) and something to think about adding to the UI settings/about page, unless it will be REALY self explanitory.

thanks so much for doing this, i wish i understood code enough to work on a mod myself, but then Ephemeral and MyQuest are already out there so there's nothing i would want to make :D keep up the good work!
