  • About Critline Basic
  •

This project is based on Critline 5.0 and my idea is to scale back on the features to make a more easy, fast and streamlined version of it.

This is supposed to do exactly the same basic features as critline 5.0, which is: record your damage, healing and your pet's damage, and present it.
Unlike Critline 5, it will not interact with fubar or titan panel, but only present the data through its own UI.
I'm updating this fairly often, so check back if you have any bugs and I'll do my best to squash them.

Oop, I'm just being a slowpoke. I'll have a new version up shortly.

I'm thinking of putting in a default filter to take away the obviously not wanted stuff, like Vehicle damage and such. The first update will just be a toc change though. ;)

I have beta 10 ready, but I have to get an svn thing installed before I can update it here.

I think that when I killed the old localization, I may have broken the addon for non-English clients. I'll look into it after newyears.

Just downloaded Beta 9. I had an error with the text on the settings screen; nothing but the first checkbox had any text next to it, and mousing over any option gave an error. I removed the semicolons from the end of each line in the localization file and all the text showed up properly. (I checked localization files for a few other addons and none of them had semicolons, so...)

I was able to modify all the options except moving the splash screen. I check the Splash Frame and Move Splash Screen options, but nothing shows up for me to move. :/

Oh, and one minor issue...it's not actually recording any data for me. You'd think starting with a blank slate would mean new records right and left, but nothing. :(

I am having these issues as well; only the top left box has any text in it, and whenever I hover the window, I get error messages like "
\Interface\Addons\critlinebasic\CritlineDisplay.lua: attempt to index global 'CL_SETTINGS' (a nil value)". And yeah, it does not record as well, which was not very surprising after noticing these two first issues :)

What might be the cause of this?

Also, while this addons is active, I seem to get random WoW crashes. Shrug.

The semicolons should not matter. They're optional in lua, I just do them because I'm used to it from java and php.

I would think that the reason your settings won't work, is the same reason it's not showing the texts. Once the xml is broken somehow, it breaks completely.

    Try looking in your
    WTF\Account\YOURACCOUNT\YOURSERVER\CHARNAME\SavedVariables
and find the critlinebasic.lua. Open it in a text editor (notepad, for instance) and see if anything has been written in the CL_settings table. If nothing's there, that is a problem. Try deleting the file and see if it works then.

    Hmm, That's weird.

If nothing but the first checkbox had text, the error occurs there in the code. I tested it on several characters before uploading, so it seems odd that it happens to you. Are you running critline at the same time? I think the two share some global variable names, which could cause problems.

Beta 9 adds support for the Slidebar that Auctioneer, Swatter and Enchantrix uses. This breaks little of the original idea of "just" being a light-weight Critline, but I think the minimalistic approach of the Slidebar is worth the tiny bit more memory use.

I'll update the table above when I have the time.

Hi, im getting the following error when I log in (beta 8):

    \Interface\Addons\critlinebasic\CritlineDisplay.lua:
attempt to index global 'CL_SETTINGS' (a nil value)

Hmm, those errors pop up once in a while.

Did you have an earlier beta or critline 5 installed earlier?

Try going into your wowdirectory and goto
    WTF\Account\YOURACCOUNT\YOURSERVER\CHARNAME\SavedVariables
and delete the critlinebasic.lua and critlinebasic.lua.bak

    and go again.

If it makes the same error, please not which line it reports and write it here, because it might be my code that's fubar.

Question: does this addon have the ability to take screenshots like the old CritLine did?

  • gwiz665 said

No, for me it was an unused ability, which is why it was one of the first to be cut.

If there is much demand for it, I can add it back in though, it's not a particularly demanding ability.

    Beta 6 overview:
    -- New icons
-- No more splash screen timer setting
-- Smaller memory footprint, 80kb before hit/crit database.

If there are features you see as redundant, or something you would like added to this addon, feel free to give feedback here.

I'm considering removing the color choice for the splash screen, as it seems to not really matter. Same with splash screen scale.

beta 5 removes the border and fixes the display bug where all three bars are on top of each other. It also fixes the "slider4" error message.

Hi there gwiz (and anyone who's interested),
I just wanted to let you know that I may be taking over maintenace of Critline 5.0 (not sure yet). I do not intend to try and steal your costumers, but rather I recommend anyone who doesn't use or want the features that was removed for Critline Basic, to just use that instead.

I also don't intend to make any major changes, mostly fixing errors and cleaning up code.

Finally, perhaps I'm in no position to make this statement, but I personally don't mind you creating this project. Then again, I'm not as much an author of Critline as just a fan. We'll have to see what the original authors say when/of they come back...
