  • About Buffwatch++
  •

Buffwatch is a buff monitoring tool for all classes which lets you easily and clearly keep track of any buffs on yourself or your party/raid, and also allows you to quickly recast your buffs at the click of a button.

You choose which buffs you want to monitor and Buffwatch lets you know when they have run out, with clickable buttons to recast them.

Buffwatch can be used to :

  • Keep an eye on buffs that you want to keep up during a raid (eg. Paladin blessings, AI, MotW, Fortitude)
  • Making sure you keep your Aura in range of your party, or vice-versa
  • Tracking other peoples buffs (eg Soulstones), perhaps as a Raid Leader
  • Show how long is left on the buffs you cast on other players

How to use :

  • Make sure the buffs you want to monitor are on the relevant players
  • Tick the checkbox next to each player which locks those buffs to the player (alternatively tick the checkbox at the top to lock them all)
  • Remove monitoring of the buffs you are not interested in using the following methods :
    • Alt-Right Click to remove the selected buff
    • Alt-Left Click to remove all buffs but the selected one

Buffs that have expired will turn red, and clicking on them will recast the buff on the player (if you have the spell)

Other features :

  • Locked buff settings are saved between sessions or players joining/leaving your group.
  • Left click the player name to target that player
  • Right click the player name to assist that player
  • Right click the Buffwatch header for options
  • Additional options to filter on buffs you can cast or buffs you have cast

Type /buffwatch or /bfw in-game for further info.

    My guild is forcing me to use ZomgBuffs and I somewhat have to sympathize with them. I still prefer buffwatch but it can take a while to get things set up before I can click the lock and move on.

    Is there any chance, for my own toon only, that I can save a list of buffs to reload later? That way I can build my full normal self buffed tank suite, save it, then do the same for the heal suite. And changing to 'whats missing' for each would be quick. As a pally tank, I do sometimes have to swap to heal setup fast for one boss or another.

    I really don't want to ask you to go crazy on logic. The fact that buffwatch is so light weight is 2/3 of its appeal. But the ability to save a list to return to later would be great. It's understood it would be for the current toon only, not all the other chars in a group/raid.

    Thank you

    Aye I know exactly what you mean, and it's one of the things I've wanted to sort out for a while, to quote from a recent comment I made on the buffwatch page on wowi :

    'One thing I would like to do in the future is to create a template manager, so you can quickly load in a preset set of buffs for any player on your list. However, I can't see that being a quick change to do, and I don't have the time at present.. but hopefully something I can add in one day.'

    Not sure yet when I'll make a start on this, but hopefully soon.

    Pup,First I'd like to thank you for a very nice, light weight, simple buff mod. Love this thing.

    I do have a couple of requests that I think would make Buffwatch much more efficient.
    1) Would it be possible to add sweep timers to the icon listing? It'd be great to know at a glance the time remaining without mousing over each icon.

    2) What do you think about a Key-bind that simply rebuffed the player with the least amount of time remaining.. one touch buffing would be great!

    Thanks again for a great mod

    Hi, thanks for the comments.

    Currently I use OmniCC, and once I added the cooldown spirals to the mod, that was automatically adding timers on the buff buttons. Personally I didn't like it as i felt it made it look too cluttered and difficult to read the icons so I added some code in to hide the OmniCC timers. However, there is already some of the code in place, to allow you to show these timers if you have OmniCC, but they didnt make it into the last release in time, so hopefully the next one.

    I am planning to add another option for the spirals, so you can choose to only start the spiral for the last 1/2/5/etc mins of each buff rather than the whole thing, which I'm hoping will be a bit more useful.

    As for a key bind, this wouldn't be able to work while in combat where it would probably be the most useful, and would probably require significant changes to the code to handle it all.. and at the moment with the amount of time I have to spend on the mod, I'm just doing 'quick wins' really.

  • Very happy for an update and that you're still around!

    I get errors here and there from BuffWatch, generally when a pet is summoned or dismissed. I'll post the errors when I get them, I just thought you weren't playing anymore. :)

    Yeh, I have had the occasional error too. Got one about 15 mins into a battleground today.. but I haven't been able to reproduce them or spot what is causing it so far.

    And yeh.. I'm playing.. probably too much :)

    Hey munk btw :p

  • Pup, any progress on being able to get a minimize button added? :)

    Yep, I've had a quick look. As mentioned I originally omitted this feature for 2.0, because you could end up going into combat with the window minimised, and it would effectively be stuck shut. Obviously Buffwatch was designed so that you could always replenish a buff with ease at any time, especially if a buff was lost or dispelled mid-fight.

    However, I know that you added this feature back for your Revived version, so I am looking to add it back in with the caveat that people understand the problem with it. I have added it back on my test version, but since I added the combat icon it now fights with that for real estate, so I need to tweak it some more :)

    I have been looking over the documentation for the new SecureHandler code in 3.0, and it may give a solution to enabling this feature even in combat. However it's all a matter of figuring it out, and finding time for it all.

  • I appreciate you looking in to it. :)

    Most everyone I knew that wanted the button there, knew that it would be stuck shut in combat. Not many people used it during PvP, as they would just buff people near them and didn't really have to use the mod for it... so minimizing it really only happened in PvP, rather than PvE. And you almost always know when you're going into combat in PvE.

    Anyhow, thanks for picking this back up and welcome back. You need any help with anything, please let me know. I'll be happy to help. :)

    This mod is the ****.... the only thing preventing me from using it is the fact that I cant make it self only 8( Well, at least I couldnt find a way. Can anyone tell me how to make it self only, weather it be a simple (i know some coding, but never messed with lua) code change, an option in the menu, or a different mod altogether?

    Thanks!

    Hi, if I understand you correctly (you only want it to show yourself, even when in a group) there's a couple of ways you can do that.

    Without changing the lua code : Lock all the players and hide the buffs for everyone but you, then select 'Hide Unmonitored' from the drop down menu (right click the header).

    By changing the lua code : edit Buffwatch.lua and change the Buffwatch_Set_UNIT_IDs(...) function to -

    function Buffwatch_Set_UNIT_IDs(forced)

    grouptype = "party";
    UNIT_IDs[1] = "player";
    if BuffwatchConfig.ShowPets == true then
    UNIT_IDs[2] = "pet";
    end

    Buffwatch_GetPlayerInfo();

    end

    If you dont want to show your pet, then you can remove the following bit from the above :

    if BuffwatchConfig.ShowPets == true then
    UNIT_IDs[2] = "pet";
    end

    "Does this work with totem buffs? So that you can tell if people are within range of the totem buffs?"

    Yep, it will work for anything that places a buff on a player.

    I used to use it for basically the same thing, with Paladin Auras.

    I love this mod. It is missing 1 feature and that is the the minimize (if it is how it is called) function.

    Do you think you could put that back in ? I really loved it on the pre TBC window because it would take hardly any space on my screen and I could reopen it and clearly see the missing buff.

    Thank you

    As much as I wanted to put the minimise feature back in, the addon changes that came with TBC have prevented me from doing so, because you wouldnt be able to minimise/maximise while in combat.

    The original idea was so that you could minimise the window, the header text would turn read if someones buff expires, and you could quickly maximise it and recast the buff, but having the window stuck shut while in combat would be too problematic for me to put that feature back in.

    Have uploaded 2.0 as a final version. I haven't really done a whole lot with the mod for a while now, although there were a number of things I had planned to do, and i'm fairly sure this will be the last version that I release.

    Thanks for all the comments and suggestions made, maybe someone with a much better understanding of mod development and more time than me comes along and continues with it. :)
