About BadBoy: Anti Spam Automatic Reporter

AFK in a city

BadBoy will actively scan your chat for possible spam, when found:

Block, all spam that is found from appearing
Report, the spamming player automatically

What sets this aside from other spam blockers?
BadBoy is made to be extremely light, simple, has no ingame options, and works automatically without asking the user.

But what if I want to know who I'm reporting and what they spammed?
Sure, ingame EXACTLY type:

/script BADBOY_POPUP = true

Now every time spam is blocked a popup will appear asking you to report the spammer. Use false to go back to automatic.

Can I turn off the reported message?
Sure, ingame EXACTLY type:

/script BADBOY_SILENT = true

Now reported messages will not be shown. Use false to show them again.

Can I block level 1 whispers?
Yes, the plugin BadBoy_Levels was written for this function.

Can I filter anal/rectum/Macro spam?

Installation Guide

Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
  - Windows XP has a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
  - WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
  - WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
  - StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
Start World of Warcraft
Make sure AddOns are installed
- Log in
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.

Translations

When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".

TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)

When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.

If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support

WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

Would it be possible to have a separate database that just blocks, not reports? I have a lot of guildies who play stupid games like TriviaBot, Bejewelled, and other g-chat spamming addons. Most of them have [TriviaBot] at the beginning of each line so a filter would be nice.

Would it be possible to add in a throttling mechanism (either to this or ccleaner) for Local Defense? I don't want to have to leave the channel because I want to know if something is under attack, but I really don't want to be spammed with it every second. This is especially the case in Grizzly Hills, where for like 2 minutes straight Local Defense was spammed with "Venture Bay is under attack!"

I recently had a gold spammer bypass the filter with a /whisper to one of my characters. At first I thought it might be an alt of someone I know because they had a real name and not something like: drhfjh the way most gold spammers do.

This person asked me if I wanted to "buy some g." I had to get into a thorough conversation before they came out and explicitly stated what they wanted from me.

I'm not sure what (if anything) you can do about filtering this new type of spammer.

do you really need to wipe the user settings every update? wtf is this microsoft windows or wow addon? wouldnt it be reasonable to release beta, test it, remove errors and then release final version after a week or so instead or releasing bugged crap every half an hour? are you trying to make this addon popular or your main goal is to make users angry? addon was, is and prolly will be great, but spending time on setting the same day by day on several chars is not.

You're going to need to be more specific, for example, I'm just going to guess you're using BadBoy_Levels here. There have been known issues with OTHER addons breaking BadBoy addons, please load up your Curse Client and make sure all your addons are up-to-date first.

If the breakage continues to occur you're going to need to slowly disable addons until you find the route of the cause, the best way to do this is disable 50% of your addons, and see if it still happens, then keep going from there.

Another addon is causing some breakage, please load up your curse client and make sure all your adddons are updated. If the error is still there, you're going to need to do some addon switching on/off to try route down the problem. If you find the problematic addon, please report back.

Please do not post here about "modding the file". Changing the file will stop the Curse Client from updating, and will also demotivate people updating because "they need to make changes every time". The reason people need to report spam is so everyone gets the update, and you don't need to do anything.

Also, I have already made an addon for filtering anal spam and such, I'd appreciate people not advertising how to add that into the main BadBoy.

Too bad BadBoy can't just reference a personal custom.txt file that we can place our own rules into for reporting/filtering. Then we wouldn't have to mod your mod on every release.
