  • About Omen Threat Meter
  •

Omen is a threat meter. Basically, enemies in WoW decide who to attack by deciding who is the most threatening based on the abilities you use. What Omen attempts to do is provide reasonably accurate estimates of your group's relative threat level on individual enemies, so that you can see when you're in danger of pulling aggro (or, if you're next on the snack list if your tank bites it). This info is usually only critical in raids, where only tanks can survive aggro, but it's useful for any multi-player situation.

Omen is an interface for the Threat-2.0 library, and comed bundled with it.

The latest updates are always available at files.wowace.com, or through the WowAceUpdater.

  • Do other people need Omen installed for it to work?

Short answer: yes

Long answer: kinda

To get fully accurate data, your groupmates must have Threat-2.0 (or an addon that uses it) installed and running. Any addon that uses Threat-2.0 will satisfy this requirement and will provide full and accurate threat data to Omen.

If you or your groupmates have any of these addons installed, or have Threat-2.0 installed as a standalone, then they are capable of sending and receiving threat data.

Please note that unlike Threat-1.0, Threat-2.0 DOES NOT have KLH Threat Meter interoperability.

  • Do I need to install Threat-2.0 to use Omen?

No. Threat-2.0 comes bundled with Omen as an embedded library. You only need to install Threat-2.0 if you want to provide your group with threat information without a GUI. As a user, you can think of Threat-2.0 as a stripped down tank version of Omen.

  • How does Omen handle multiple targets with the same name?

Joyous news! Thanks to upgrades Blizzard made in 2.4, Omen can now tell every mob apart. You should have accurate threat information for every mob you engage, regardless of its name.

  • What else has changed?
    • Omen has a number of display modes now. You have:
      • The "Single Target" mode. This is your standard threat meter mode.
      • The "AOE" mode. This shows your relative threat on all targets you are in combat with. Useful for seeing your relative threat on multiple targets.
      • The "Overview" mode. Shows people who are currently high on threat on any enemy you're in combat with.
      • The "Healer/Tank" mode. Shows each of your tanks' targets (pulled from oRA2 or the Blizzard tank settings) and their threat lists.
    • Single-bar customization is not in yet. This is coming.
    • Pullout bars are not implemented yet. This is coming.

There is no threat on the meter, could another mod be blocking it?

  • May 6, 2008, 05:39PM (5 days, 11 hours ago)

I can't seem to get the healer mode to work, is there any setting I need to change or anything? I just doesnt ever show any threat at all

  • May 7, 2008, 10:56PM (4 days, 6 hours ago)

Works in raid. If you arent in a raid and healing a target that has threat, dont expect to see anything.

    What's wrong with you?

  • May 7, 2008, 10:52PM (4 days, 6 hours ago)

Read a couple replies down. It'll always update and you dont have to update to the new version thats stated on omen when a new one comes on wowace. It will automatically report a new version is available. That new version is meant for beta testers. Otherwise the one released here is considered the only stable version by the author.

Anyone know how I can add more textures to the bars? Blizzard par texture is so ugly.

  • May 5, 2008, 11:27PM (6 days, 5 hours ago)

    Download the addon, Sharedmedia.
It has loads of extra textures.

Not sure if its here at curse, but you can find it at wowace.com

I can't seem to get this installed properly. Inside the "Omen" folder are 4 subfolders (Media, Libs, Modules, Localization). Inside "Media" is a subsub folder "SOunds". Inside Libs are 20 subsub folders and some of them have subsubsub folders. Inside "modules" are 4 subsub folders. Also there are dozens of other files that aren't folders (like alot of .lua files and text files and others). I can't figure out which files and folders to move into the wow/interface/addon directory. Thanks for any help.

Jgrvm: In order to install this mod just unzip the entire contents into your wow/interface/addon directory. Nothing else to worry about.

I was wonder how or if it is even possible to have the helpful warning. If that warning is still put into the addon how do i activate it so it will warn me when i pass the main tank?

  • April 30, 2008, 02:11AM (1 week, 5 days ago)

Its in options under warnings for the single target tab. Be sure to set it approriatly. Melee distance for rogues = agro ripped from tanks at 115%. For ranged = 135%

  • May 3, 2008, 06:04PM (1 week, 1 day ago)

Aggro is pulled at 110% of the current mob target's threat level when the potential puller is at melee range (i.e. within 5 yards), and at 130% if the potential puller is not at melee range (i.e. greater than 5 yards). It doesn't matter what class the potential puller might be - all that matters if the current range to the mob. This is why Mages and Warlocks (and Priest, etc.) should not be standing close to mobs if they can avoid it - they lose that extra 20% threat buffer.

  • May 3, 2008, 10:34PM (1 week, 1 day ago)

Not sure why I wrote rogue there.

Repeated info to lower the same questions being asked over and over:

What link are you refering to? The only link I see is the irc link. The actual website is http://files.wowace.com/Omen but this is for bleeding edge development. Basically the author uses an uploader, whenever he/she makes a change it uploads the change and assigns it a new version number. You should never download the latest version located at the bottom of that page. Unless you want to basically beta test it and offer your feedback. Otherwise the versions offered here on curse is the only stable non beta version released by the author. Any other version is use at your own risk.

    Directly from wowace itself:

"These are BETA addons you are updating and you should expect to see cutting edge features which may not be fully functional or bug-free. If this doesn't sound appealing for you, stop reading this page and update your addons through release versions from mod sites instead. Some addons are more beta than others."

In other words. Unless you got it from this site its a beta version. Coming here to ask questions about the version released here = ok. Coming here to ask about version 716xx???? is not. This is not a developers page, reporting bug problems with versions other than this one listed will result in wishing someone registered to the site knows wtf they are talking about. The author most likely will not have the time to answer them.

Please use the wowace forums and developers page links to discuss problems related to other versions and stop confusing the general public. We now have guilds running around with incompatible numbers and versions. This is causing threat issues on raids and groups because of the misinformation.

Short version of information posted. if you didnt get it from this site its a beta. if it bugs on you, thats why. Version listed here is considered non beta and was tested and works perfectly. if you have problems with this version it is related to a setting you messed with. To which the members here can answer your questions. All other version related questions are not related to the release version. And you stand a 1 in 1000000 chance of having it answered correctly.

well, this is mighty interesting i deleted omen and reinstalled it using this version...but yet the omen window reads "r71636" O.o

  • April 29, 2008, 01:57PM (1 week, 5 days ago)

Thats because you deleted it in your addons folder but you didnt delete it out of your wtf saved variables folder. Which if I had to guess has your version doc number.

  • April 27, 2008, 08:44PM (2 weeks ago)

One more question. lol. When omen updates, do all the options for it default? like say i take off the warnings for low health, will they come back when omen is updated?

  • April 29, 2008, 01:57PM (1 week, 5 days ago)

It shouldnt unless the version was totally revamped.

  • April 27, 2008, 03:25AM (2 weeks, 1 day ago)

Quick Question. When i'm fighting in a group, the aggro bars are all visible except for aoe.. me being a mage you can see why i'm so upset.. lol. Whenever i do aoe attacks, there is just a blank space in the aoe version....any ideas?
