  • About Gruul Position Display
  •

My raid took on the strategy of using "safe spots" at Gruul's lair, using an image and numbering system to assign people to spots beforehand. All that ALT+TABBING made my eyes water, so I created this addon to simplify things somewhat.

Type /gruul to get it to display, and then click on your number to highlight it when you're assigned. It'll stay highlighted until you change it, relog or reloadui.

Any coders amongst you who go digging through will see I've already hooked the CHAT_MSG_ADDON event for future use - I intend to create a simple addon to allow raid leaders to assign people to each of the 25 spots without making duplicates, then hit a button to send the data out, autohighlighting for each person and saving them having to click. Laziness for the win!

The background image was borrowed from a guide over at DeathWish Gaming (http://www.dwgaming.com/GruulStrat). Nice little strat for downing Gruul if you haven't managed to yet :)

I have the same problem as Findra, and I cannot get it to close, i try /gruul and stuff but doing /console reloadui is the only way i can get it to go again.

I have a problem, when I bring up the map, the numbers are light yellow color and hard to see. Also I can not click on any numbers, it just click right through the map like there is nothing there

    Please help.

    thanks

I'm afraid my XML skills aren't quite up to minimizing the window, but since it saves your "spot" you could always create a /gruul macro and hit that whenever you needed to reference it (remembering the ESC key hides the window).

I'll make it moveable in the next version - recently found out how to do that ;p

Awesome add-on. My guild is trying Gruul with exact the same scheme from Death Wish. I think it might help us save some time. One suggestion: Is there a possibility to minimize the window and move it. Or even mark the safespot and the direction to move on the minimap?

This is an awesome add-on. Helps so much for when we take new recruits to gruul! Thanks!

torey0: Take a look at the guide I linked in the description and you may start to see what we mean. There's certain "safe spots" within Gruul's lair where you WON'T be knocked back "scattered". The numbers are then used as a marker for where you run after the knockback (from your safe spot) so you keep good distance from everyone else and minimize shatter damage.

The lines running from each number show you where the safe spots are, and there's a circle to mark the safe spot itself. I realise it's a little unclear in the in-game diagram but I'll try and clear that up somewhat for v2.

You can't assign places because Gruul scatters the entire raid around randomly before doing his Shatter. And judging by the picture it appears they only have three melee, which would be unlikely.

Thanks for the feedback. I was starting to wonder where the 3000 people who downloaded this addon so far were hiding ;p
