- About flagRSP
flagRSP is an addon for roleplayers to enhance their roleplaying
experience. You can set different flags and information other
players will see. An enhanced Friendlist is also included.
Please report bugs (even spelling or language mistakes) or send suggestions
for flagRSP/Friendlist to the addresse that can be found in the readme coming with the addon.
You can find more information about flagRSP on the official homepage:
http://flokru.org/flagrsp/
flagRSP & Friendlist are based on xTooltip by Per 'Doxxan' Lnn Wege and
flagRSP & Friendlist by Zmrzlina (who implemented most of the features).
I (flokru) will try to maintain this addon and go on developing it further.
My thanks go to Zmrzlina who made this addon possible at all! Unfortunately
he has left the WoW world.
Features
--------
Here's an overview over the features of flagRSP and Friendlist (all
optional):
- Set one of four roleplaying flags to show other players your preferred
roleplaying style (see below).
- Choose an surname for your character that is displayed to other players
using flagRSP as well.
- Choose a title for your character.
- Enter a description of the outward appearance of you character. This is
shown to other users as well.
- Put players of the opponent faction on Friendlist (incl. surname).
- Mark guilds as friends or foes.
- Mark NPCs/mobs as friends or foes.
- Make notes about other players/guilds/NPCs in Friendlist.
- Replace exact level information by relative information ("extremely puny"
to "impossible").
- Hide names of unknown players.
- Configure rp flags, surname and title via GUI (more GUI to come).
- Foes are acoustically notified on MouseOver.
- View own flags and tags via a special option to show a tooltip for
yourself.
- Fully downward compatible to xTooltip2.
- Replace level information in the targetframe.
EXPERIMENTAL VERSIONS
---------------------
Some versions of flagRSP are preview releases. Please pay attention to the
following notes:
- If you just want to use flagRSP without having problems please do not use
these preview releases. Use the more stable normal releases instead.
- Preview releases can be EXTREMELY EXPERIMENTAL. There will definitely be
bugs in these releases. Perhaps these bugs will not affect you, perhaps
they will. I release these preview releases to give brave users the
possibility to test the newest bleeding edge features.
- There will (perhaps) be features that do not work yet (i.e. buttons that
do nothing etc.). If you think you have discovered a bug please check the
changelogs first. Perhaps the feature has just not been implemented and
thus certainly won't work.
- If you use a preview release and discover a bug, please report it! The
intention of these releases is to find bugs. Some bugs do never appear for
me. Only by receiving bug reports I can develop more stable versions.
Installation
------------
Installation is simple. Just extract the zip file into your World of
Warcraft directory (be sure to extract the folder structure as well
and not only the plain files) or select your World of Warcraft
directory for the installer. After this the addons should work.
There should be messages that flagRSP has been initialized in the game
in your chat window. Furthermore there should be a button for
Friendlist near the minimap.
IMPORTANT: Normally the following step should be unnecessary.
Unfortunately this does not work occasionally for unknown reasons.
After installation you have to check if flagRSP could properly join
the chat channel "xTensionXTooltip2". Normally this should happen
automatically AFTER ONE OR TWO MINUTES. However, under unknown
circumstances (mostly in context with Cosmos) this occasionally
failes.
Therefore, move your mouse pointer into you main chat frame so that
the tab "General" becomes visible. Right click on this to open the
menu. Under the point "Channels" (or similar) should be a list of all
active chat channels.
In this list there should be "xTensionXTooltip2" (perhaps in lower
case). IF THIS IS NOT THE CASE YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY JOIN THIS
CHANNEL. To do so enter this command:
/join xTensionXTooltip2
After this the channel should appear in the list even after restarting
the game. If not, please report this bug via mail.
This channel is the central function of flagRSP. The only function of
this channel is to send other users of flagRSP your flags. Their
addons listen in this channel evaluate the control messages to know
which flags their tooltips have to display. There is no other way of
communicating between different clients.
Indeed it is a good idea to mute this channel so that your game is not
affected by the control messages of this channel:
There is a difference between having joined a channel and displaying
the channel's messages in your chat frame.
If the former is not the case the addon cannot work properly (as
mentioned above) because communication with other clients does not
work.
But that does not mean that you have to display this data in your chat
frame. In WoW you can add several chat frames and make particular
channel being displayed in particular frames (and being displayed only
there). In the same way you can mute every channel in every frame
(even if you only have one). Technically you don't leave the channel
by doing so. You only stop displaying it.
First answer under Troubleshooting (see readme) tells you in detail how this works.
SAFETY
------
This point is very important! flagRSP has no ability to write down its own
data into a separate file. Therefore, flagRSP CANNOT make backups of any
settings you made and more important backups of your Friendlist entries
and your personal description!
flagRSP can tell WoW which data it should save for flagRSP. However, WoW
might instantly delete this data if anything goes wrong. This "garbage
collection" is normally very good so that you don't have to fear bloated
memory usage after uninstalling RAM hungry addons. WoW will just delete the
old addon's data so you don't need to care about that.
However, losing your Friendlist entries or your description because WoW
got something wrong can be very painful. Therefore you should backup these
settings as often as possible!
How to backup your settings: Look into your WoW directory. There should be
a subdirectory called WTF. Follow the path
"WTF\Account\<your accountname>\SavedVariables\". In this directory there
should be several .lua and .lua.bak files. For flagRSP you will need
flagRSP.lua and Friendlist.lua. Take these two files and copy them to a
location where they are safe.
In case of anything going wrong (e.g. WoW deleting your settings) you can
simply copy the backup files back into this directory.

chibspan saidDoes the latest version of FlagRSP work with the latest patches from Blizzard? After 2.0 I had to uninstall and then reinstall WoW because one of my addons corrupted the game or something, I'm just trying to get my addons back and not have to reninstall again.

Spell check really is a good idea. Feel free to fix that "your" following "2) If..." with a "you're". Contractions will be the death of me, one of these days.

melliott said@ Winnychan:
1) The comment box is not your personal soap box to bitch out how others use a particular addon. If they're illiterate and can't read the guidelines the addon offers when attempting to edit their description...likely, you yelling about their "poor" descriptions isn't going to change anything.
2) If your such an "elitist snob roleplayer" (enough of one, apparently, to judge everyone else's roleplaying habits as "good" or "bad"), one would think you'd have a more inventive character name than "Winnychan" on a roleplaying server.

Unahim saidGreetings, while this is a *geat* addon there are some problems: 1.If your in a party(or even alone when the other guy has a big description) the portraits are in the way of the description, perhaps make the box moveable with your cursor? 2. I met *alot* of people who's description is so long that it goes of the screen, a scroller would be nice

p-r saidA few little bugs & suggestions: The hide unknown player names does not work. I can see the names fine by their portrait. We need a moveable minimap icon! Also, friendlist, I wish I could make it activate by pushing the O key. (Or by using a macro that could be bound to the O key). It's annoying having to click the tiny little fragment of a scroll that sticks out from under the CTMod button. And maybe it could auto-place someone on "known" staus if you exchange a certain number of whispers or something. Then again, I'm not a programmer, so I don't know if any of this wold be possible. Thanks for reading, those in charge of development! Oh, and Gaudi, in case you haven't gotten an answer yet, you can download the flagRSP.zip and stuffit expander will open it right up. Then take the flagRSP folder and paste it into your interface:addons folder. GO MACINTOSH!

Nightwolfferris saidHello
According to a posting in the english flagrsp forums, the development on flagrsp and its potential successor WARS (Warcraft advanced roleplaying suite) has been stopped due to private reasons of the remaining developer Ramoon.
source: http://www.fabledrealm.com/flagrsp/forum/viewtopic.php?t=105
But he provides the souce code of Flagrsp and WARS via the sourceforge CVS system and i honestly hope, that someone will continue the excellent work of flokru and Ramoon so that their work will not get lost because of flagrsp not being compatible with new Wow Patches.
Please visit http://sourceforge.net/projects/wars/ for the files.

purfektzero saidFlagRSP works in 1.10..sort of. The only problem I've encountered is that when you have the "FlagRSP loader" enabled, you no longer see health bars under the player tooltips when mousing over. I found having those healthbars there more important then having FlagRSP on for the moment =\ If anyone can find out how to fix/get around this, let me know.

WolfoftheNyght saidIt didn't break it..but it's deffinetly a little glitchy in respect to the player bars.

This is the only problem I've found with it as well.. and I agree it's a little annoying, cause I have to actually click on the person now to see if they need help with a monster or not, but I don't think it's worth disabling the mod. If anyone has a fix for this, please let me know!

Narissis said-You can move the description window out from underneath the party portraits. Right-click & drag.
-You can move the scroll icon on the minimap. The command is /fl buttonpos ###. So if, for example, I was to type...
/fl buttonpos 200
...then the button would get moved to 200 degrees on the minimap.
This response may be irrelevant since 1.10 makes FlagRSP cry, however. :P

Moncader saidHello everyone, I am currently developing MyRolePlay, an addon much like flagRSP in many respects and ultimately enspired by it. Head over to http://forums.rightstep.org/
This is the home page for MyQuests, an addon that allows users to create their own quests and give them to other player to do.
We will be working together to bring the ultimate RP experience and will be later starting up the Ephmerial addon again.
Please head over to that site and post in my post http://forums.rightstep.org/showthread.php?t=174
ALL feedback and feature request, etc... is accepted as I am making this for the players. I will make this as best as I can.

It appears that this is a known issue. Anyone picking up the torch? I like the sound of the next mod, but it sounds like it's barely even under development (re: Moncader/MyRolePlay).
In lieu of that mod, is anyone picking up flagRSP?

AlphaMaelstrom saidflagRSP has changed hands numerous times. I wish someone would contact them, and pick it up, they're more than glad to hand it over. Multiple mods will end up splitting the community, pick it up, take it over here, and if you decide to do an entire recode from the ground up, do so, and release it as a new version under the original name. It's 0.5.6 for the love of god, 1.0.0 wouldn't be major step! Keep it here, keep the original name, keep the same channel so it's backwards compatable! This WILL end up fracturing the already limited RP community if not handled carefully, PLEASE!
