About Mobmap

Mobmap

As you all know, Mobmap comes in 2 languages. English, and German.

English

The MobMap Addon is an ingame database browser. It displays the positions of all known mobs and NPCs on the ingame map as well as the minimap - much like you know from the established web databases, but INGAME!. MobMap will also integrate itself into your questlog which makes finding quest mobs as easy as clicking a button!

In addition to that, MobMap also has a quest database that you can search by various criteria, a merchant database which lets you browse the offerings of all known merchants in WoW and a profession/recipe database that contains data about the necessary reagents for various recipes!

You can open MobMap ingame either by using the new button added to the world map, by defining a key binding for MobMap or by using the command /mobmap show

MobMap does not get any data from an online database as you play WoW. Instead, it works with a local database copy installed together with the addon itself in your addon folder which gets loaded on-demand (currently this database occupies ~3-4 Mbytes of addon memory when it is fully loaded, MobMap itself only needs 190 kbytes until you use it the first time). This database however is being built by a web application running at http://www.mobmap.de. You can download the newest version of the database on this website, and if you download and extract the zip file available here, you will HAVE TO get an up-to-date version of the database in your preferred language (german or english) manually from the MobMap website, otherwise your MobMap installation won't work!

To make it easier for you to keep MobMap and its database up-to-date, I provide a windows application called the MobMapUpdater. This application does not have to be run in parallel with WoW, you just fire it up whenever you want to check for updates or upload collected data.

If you choose the MobMapInstaller.exe download available here or on the MobMap website, a wizard will comfortably install the MobMap addon with a copy of either the german or english database (your choice) and the MobMapUpdater (if you want it).

The data in the MobMap database is gathered in the same way as the data of all the well-known web databases: by users submitting data collected while they play the game. MobMap also contains such a data-collection mechanism which is enabled by default (you can, however, disable it if you don't want to contribute to the database). There are two ways to upload this data to the database: the manual upload via an export function in the addon and the MobMap website and the more comfortable one-click-upload via the MobMapUpdater. In both cases only non-personal game information is uploaded, neither your account or character name nor any other personal information is being submitted.

At the moment, the quest/merchant/profession databases are still pretty empty, as they have been added much later than the position database in the beta test phase. But if many users contribute their collected data to the database (and I strongly encourage you to do so, it's just one click with the MobMapUpdater tool!), this 'problem' should be solved soon.

Das MobMap-Addon ist ein Ingame-Datenbank-Browser. Es zeigt euch die Position jedes ihm bekannten Mobs bzw. NPCs auf der Weltkarte an - ähnlich wie die bekannten Web-Datenbanken, aber komplett ingame! MobMap integriert sich auch ins Questlog und ermöglicht das Auffinden vieler Questmobs mit einem einzigen Klick!

Außerdem enthält MobMap eine Quest-Datenbank, die nach verschiedensten Kriterien gefiltert werden kann, eine Händlerdatenbank, in welcher alle bekannten Händler und deren Angebotslisten verzeichnet sind und eine Berufsdatenbank, in welcher man die nötigen Reagenzien für jedes bekannte Rezept nachschlagen kann.

Du kannst MobMap ingame entweder über den neuen Button auf der Weltkarte, über eine im Tastaturbelegungsmenü von WoW einstellbare Tastenkombination oder über /mobmap show aufrufen.

MobMap fragt nicht bei einer Online-Datenbank nach, während du spielst. Stattdessen bezieht es seine Informationen aus einer lokalen Datenbank-Kopie, die zusammen mit dem Addon im WoW-Addon-Ordner liegt und bei der ersten Nutzung von MobMap dynamisch geladen wird (momentan benötigt diese Datenbank ca. 3-4 Mbyte an Addon-Speicher, wenn alle Teile geladen sind - MobMap selbst braucht nur 190 kbyte). Diese Datenbank wird von einer Web-Applikation erzeugt, die auf http://www.mobmap.de läuft. Dort kannst du jederzeit eine aktuelle Kopie der Datenbank in deiner bevorzugten Sprachversion (deutsch oder englisch) herunterladen, und wenn du hier das .zip-File mit dem Addon zum ersten Mal installiert hast musst du das sogar tun, denn in diesem File wird KEINE Datenbank mitgeliefert.

Um das Aktualisieren von MobMap und deiner lokalen Datenbank-Kopie so einfach wie möglich zu machen gibt es den MobMapUpdater, eine Windows-Applikation, über welche du mit wenigen Klicks sowohl das Addon als auch die Datenbank aktualisieren kannst. Der MobMapUpdater muss dabei nicht parallel mit WoW laufen, sondern muss nur gestartet werden, wenn du nach Updates suchen oder gesammelte Daten hochladen möchtest.

Falls du die MobMapInstaller.exe-Datei hier oder auf der MobMap-Website herunterlädst und ausführst, wird ein komfortabler Installer sowohl das MobMap-Addon als auch eine Kopie der Datenbank in deiner bevorzugten Sprachversion installieren. Außerdem bietet der Installer dir die Möglichkeit, den MobMapUpdater mitzuinstallieren.

Die Daten für die MobMap-Datenbank werden genauso gesammelt wie die Daten aller bekannten Web-Datenbanken: viele Spieler laden freiwillig die durch ein Addon während sie spielen gesammelten Daten hoch. MobMap enthält ebenfalls solch einen Datensammel-Mechanismus, der standardmäßig eingeschaltet ist (du kannst ihn aber auch deaktivieren, falls du keine neuen Daten zur Datenbank beitragen willst). Es gibt zwei Wege, wie Daten hochgeladen werden können: entweder manuell über die Export-Funktion im Addon und die MobMap-Website oder ganz einfach mit einem Klick im MobMapUpdater. In beiden Fällen werden nur nicht-personenbezogene aus dem Spiel gesammelte Daten hochgeladen, sensible Daten wie dein Accountname oder die Namen deiner Charaktere werden weder gesammelt noch hochgeladen.

Im Moment sind die Questdatenbank, die Händlerdatenbank und die Rezeptdatenbank noch ziemlich leer. Aber wenn möglichst viele User ihre gesammelten Daten hochladen (und ich kann jeden nur dazu ermutigen, mit dem MobMapUpdater kostet das Ganze dich nur einen einzigen Klick!) sollte sich dieses 'Problem' recht schnell lösen lassen.

Installation Guide

Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
  - Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
  - WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
  - WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
  - StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
Start World of Warcraft
Make sure AddOns are installed
- Log in
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.

Translations

When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".

TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)

When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.

If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support

WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

this is single handedly the best adddon in the game i never have to alt tab. this is thottbot, allakhazam, and wowhead all in one addon and having this and lightheaded ( just in case :) ) is the best! i never have to open the internet!

This is one of my favorite addons off all time, I have used this since before it came to curse, and can say overall, this addon is a must have. However, now that I am using Cartographer 3, there is no real way to turn it off after showing an overlay of the map. Can you and cknight please work on this to resolve this issue?

Doin individual downloads are a hell of alot better than the client. The client installs things that you dont tell it to, it happened to me 10 minutes ago of this posting. I iuninstalled it and prefer to do individual dl of my mods.

Every time I let Client download Mobmap it is always out of date. You are showing version 1.4 and 1.6 was released today. I like you website but I am not happy when client wants to update my addons. I know you are working all of the problems and I appreciate all that you are doing. I will remove client from my computer for the time being to keep from getting programs that are not up-to-date. I will do an individaul download. Again thanks for the website.

I too receive "No position database has been found - Mobmap has been deactivated, Please install an up to date version of the database." anybody know what to do about this?

the newest version of teh mobmap updater contains a trojan horse virus named "Virus or unwanted program 'TR/PSW.Wow.bai [trojan]'
detected in file 'C:\Program Files\MobMapUpdater\MobMapUpdater.exe." as copied from my anti virus detection software, I have deleted the mod from my computer and i suggest you do the same

MobMap is buggy. When i click some items in the chat window or click on some npcs i´ll get an error message. I have MobMap newest version 1.6 from the MopMap-Updater. What´s wrong?

German:

MobMap ist buggy. Wenn ich einige items im Chat anklicke oder Npcs bekomme ich eine Fehlermeldung. Habe MopMap auf dem neuesten Stand über den MobMap-Updater ---> MopMap V. 1.6 Was ist da los?

clicking on mob/npc names in quests brings up the locations - but not for pickups or drops. One has to take the extra step of clicking on the 'pickup' tab and typing in the item name. All the info is there. How does one make pickups and drops appear just like mobs/npcs?

When I log into the game, this message always comes up:

No position database has been found - Mobmap has been deactivated, Please install an up to date version of the database.

I have installed the latest version of mobmap and the database. What else can I do?

"/mobmap delete" = Delete all Loaded Data.
