  • About Paladin Healing Calculator
  •

This spreadsheet offers a simple way to model all of the various talents, buffs, items, character attributes and their impact on a paladin's healing output. After you enter some basic information it calculates your average heals, mana efficiency, crit rate, mana pool, HP / Sec, etc for all the various ranks of Holy Light and Flash of Light.

Even more useful is a built in item comparison. It allows you to compare whether another item is better than your current one from a healing perspective. Simply enter the current items stats and the new item stats and it will give you the HP healed difference between the two of them (for a given battle profile). Because of the complexity of the interactions between intellect, +Healing, Mp5, and Spell Crit a spreadsheet like this is necessary to compare the various healing stats against each other. Is 14 spell crit better than 5 Mp5? What about 10 intellect vs 30 +healing.

Lastly, a sorted list of every 'interesting' healing item in the game is included in this spreadsheet. All the stats for each item are recorded. As you change your talent and character profile, buffs used, fight length, etc - the spreadsheet has a macro that will resort the item lists to show the best to worse items for each slot. Want items for a 10-15 minute Gruul fight? The 'best' items for that fight will be different from the 'best' items for a 5 minute Attumen fight.

To use:

See the instruction page in the spreadsheet.

    Darion,

Awesome job as usual! Glad to see spirit made it in there :)

Something to think about adding in the food buffs section may be Skullfish Soup, for those pallies who are crit-conscious.

    Shenoir,

Thanks for your post. My response:

Shroud of the Final Stand will be in 3.6 along with a ton of Sunwell related stuff.

    a) Add spell haste: I've considered this - especially after adding most of the Sunwell items which have Spell Haste. My problem is how to use it. Up to now I haven't tried to include spell haste in the model since it doesn't directly or indirectly effect your healing output over an extended period of time. It is good in general for being able to 'respond' more quickly. And honestly, I'm only at Vashj and Kael but I'm not sure I see the value. The MT healing I do is not so much respond but anticipate. But I'm willing to say I have seen the true end game content so I may not understand.

    B) Spirit included: Simple answer is yes. I'm busy with a new job and will let others agree on the impact, then I'll implement. Updating all the items with spirit - ugh. That will take considerable time.

    C) Good suggestion. The problem is time. I have been using the 'best' gem knowing that for good reasons people may not use it. But I haven't been putting in the socket bonus's. My justification being that the effects cancel. They probably don't but I simply don't have the time to update the spreadsheet and then go through and update every item. That's literally days of work.

    D) Tier bonus's added: I have thought about it and in my not so copious spare time I'll look at it. Maybe 3.6.

Darion, Great spreadsheet. Keep it going :)

I've noticed you've missed 'Shroud of the Final Stand" in your past couple of updates. Yum yum BT trash cloak. :)

Couple of questions for you (may be premature but hey - gets the ball rolling):

    A) What are your thoughts on integrating a column for +haste and equating a "point" value to 1 point of haste? With all of the new haste-oriented gear it would be good to have those calculations in there.

    B) What are your thoughts on the current 2.4 spirit enhancements in relation to mp5 regen? Whitetooth (author of UI mod Ratingsbuster) is currently theorizing (on Elitist jerks forums)

    ManaRegen(SPI, INT, LEVEL) = (0.001+SPI*BASE_REGEN[LEVEL]*(INT^0.5))*5

as the current Spirit > Int formula.

As such, perhaps adding in a spirit area on the $Paladin tab to calculate this value may be something to look at for patch 2.4.

    C) Any thoughts on removing the default gem column values and instead adding dropdowns so that users can select the gems they have themselves? What benefit does adding a static "gems are worth X heal points" ($Paladin!$C$80) when the gems should be calculated by stat, depending on what's actually in there?

[edit: just thought of something else]

    D) Have you considered modeling in the special section 2/4 piece t6 bonuses or items such as S2/3 gloves (2% FoL)?

Thanks for your time and an awesome spreadsheet :)

lol...it's me being sloppy. Red means an item I have on my character. Blue means something I'm actively working toward. Sorry about that. Hopefully I'll remember to remove when I post 3.6. BTW, I found +healing mis-predict. It was due to the improved spirit talent of priests that give +healing for spirit. Fixed in 3.6. Also, I'm going through and adding Sunwell items from 2.4. Hopefully over the next couple of weeks I can get them typed in and 3.6 posted.

Whats the Red and Blue text for?

  • Jan. 23, 2008, 07:30PM (3 months, 3 weeks ago)

    Updated to 3.5. Changes include
    - Blessing of Light changes which decreased BoL effect on lower ranked spells
    - Added new badge rewards

    Not yet done:
    - BoL models Rank 6-7 and up fairly well. It over estimates BoL effect for lower ranked spells. I need to figure out the algorithm
    - Did not add S2 or S3 equipment. Just haven't had the time and it is low priority for me because I don't PvP and PvP equipment in general is gimped for PvE raid usage
    - Still have a pesky problem where it mis-predicts the +Healing by 18. Haven't had a chance to run it down.

But overall should be functional and accurate to the level needed. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the compliment pfgpally. As for adding a 2nd rank of FoL. I will see if I can slip it into the next release - but my belief is it wouldn't be used much. I used FoL a bit in Kara but as you move into SSC and beyond the paladin tends to be moved into a main tank healing role with druids and shaman's taking the raid healing. Because of that FoL's are just too small to be used much. I tend to spam HL4 with a HL7 or HL11 when needed (in some cases spamming HL7 with HL4 and HL11 when needed :-).. HL4 is more efficient than FoL7 and heals for more HP's as long as you have Libram of Souls redeemed (you have) and Blessing of light on the tank.

As for Shiffar's Nexus-Horn - it is modeled in the list of trinkets. I believe I overstated the effect of the 225 +healing though. It should be a 20% proc with a 25% crit rate with some sort of cool down. I didn't put the trinket cool down in it. Assuming no cool down it averages to 0.2 * 0.25 * 225 = 11.25 +healing (I had 8.4 based on a 15% proc). Honestly you are better off get Xi'ri's Gift.

wow - awsome spread sheet - i have so many plans for it :D

could we have the option of two ranks of FoL ? and then put the avg crit heal from the tables below next to the entry ? these are changes i think i could make but dont want to screw with your work of art. i was amased at how much more effiecient FoL is. on a really lame technical note, do you model the nexus horn ?

and were do i sign up for killing whoever is resonsible in blizzard for the lame T4 healer set bonuses :P :P :P just kidding, i think!

    3. Updated most purple items as in 2.1 the stats were improved.

    4. Streamlined the buff section to make it easier to select the buffs you are using, spell, food, battle elixir, guardian elixir, flasks, etc.

    Sent,

I updated the spreadsheet with both the Wave-crest Striders and the Pendant of the Violet eye. For the pendant I assumed 10 stacking casts for a total of 504 mana every 2 minutes which is 21 Mp5. I used the new 21 Mp5 PTR version.

    Leftquark,

Always love to here from you. Read the 2 mails and the equations are complicated enough that I need to study. If I can get rid of the macro I would be happy to. Give me through the weekend to get back to you (hopefully it isn't nice weather :-).

    Hey Darion,

I sent you a few PM's on Curse so check your mail. A few questions and then a formula for calculating the fight length require for 2 items to have equal healing. It doesn't use any macros and produces the same numbers.

    The item list is awesome.

Some boots I have that it is missing are the "Wave-crest Striders" from heroic BF. Also the improved Aran Trinket in 2.1 might be something interesting, cause from what I can tell it'll own face mana/5 wise

  • April 26, 2007, 04:25PM (1 year ago)

Update the trinkets sheet to make it more accurate and added some more items. Also, changed the illumination nerf from 50% to 60% (recent PTR change).

The interesting part of a rating or ranking system is that for people like me that have a 5 man outfit, boss outfit, resist outfits, and a +healing outfit, we can identify and then target the 'best' equipment for the given situations. Is this really needed? No. This maybe gives you a 5-10% 'edge'. Not significant in most situations. Fun for number crunchers like me? Yes :-).

Oh and to be able to have a constructive conversation about trade-offs between Mp5, Spell crit, etc. - priceless.  :-)

The more I think about it, the more I realize that having a rating system for what you're looking for is kinda meh. In general, we're looking for gear that will help us heal more, which is what your healing delta tells us. It's prob. ok as long as people realize that sometimes a balance is in order.
